I'm completely shocked by this result. I'm also disappointed. I suggest CFers avoid mass media for the next week or so unless you like hearing media whores laugh at Bill Belichick.

At least Eli got his moment. But will he get any credit for the victory?Edited by: Matra1

Hey at least WFAN will stop getting on Eli Manning for awhile. Talking about how they should replace him as early as December. Eli showed he has heart tonight. Breaking out of sacks, and the Giants defense just wanted it more. Too bad Wes Welker's record breaking game was for naught.

It wasn't Wes Welker's fault.

Glad for Eli and Coughlin.

Sad for the Pats. 18-1 ughhh.

They should have gone to the game plan they used to beat Jacksonville. It's almost like they were grab-bagging the whole game.

All hail the brothers Manning.

I suspect that in the long term the Giants defense will be credited with the victory and the next time Eli has a bad game it'll be just like earlier this year with everyone jumping on his back.

Prediction topic for tomorrow's Pardon The Interruption: Was Randy Moss under utilized? (Followed by insinuations that Welker was used too much.)

I'm not traumatized by the results. Eli Manning got the MVP after nearly ever caste-whore pundit begged for his benching most of the season. Wes Welker set a superbowl record for receptions; 11 for 103 yards - having 27 receptions in his three playoff games. He out-performed Moss in every single playoff game as the whole nation watched. The most disappointing part of the Giants winning was that Welker stood a good chance of being the MVP had the Patriots won.

The Patriots lost virtually the only way they could: A late scoring drive by the Giants leaving too little time on the clock.

The most important thing about this superbowl from a caste perspective was that the only white reciever on the field out-performed every other reciever. It should mean good news for white recievers as the best team this decade had no problem featuring a small white reciever. I really think we will see a few white recievers get more attention next year because of Welker's season and superbowl performance.

Yes he can be a hero for life now, or at least that's what Namath was.......

Never said it was Welker's fault. He had an amazing game! Manning arrived tonight no one can take this from him. Congrats to Eli and Tom. Sorry for the Patriots.

American optimism dies hard.

I'm usually not very optimistic and I don't see a great change happening just maybe a couple tiny ones as throwing to a white reciever may not be quite as taboo a practice. I think it's good news for Anthony Gonzales' and Kevin Curtis' stock and perhaps one or two others that could pop out of the woodwork. White players will now have superlatives comparing them to Wes Welker. It sure beats comparisons to career role-players like Brandon Stokely and Ricky Proel.

Not a bad prediction, but of course it would fly in the face of logic for them to do so. Welker was thrown to most often on the Patriots go-ahead 4th quarter drive catching four passes. It certainly didn't hurt the Patriots to throw the ball his way. He had 14 passes thrown to him and caught eleven - not bad. Maybe they should have thrown to him more - especially earlier in the game.

How  about  the  catch  by   Giant  TE  Boss  (Shockey's  replacement)  that  was  HUGE!!!!!!!

He has played great as Shockey's replacement. Could we see two TE featured for the Giants next year, or even see Shockey Split-out in the Slot more often? Would be a nice thing to see.

What happened to the O-line? Brady was on his back all night long. The game should have been over in the drive culminating in a Moss TD. Thedefense blew it, they missed severalchances to intercept and sack Manning. Welker was sensational, but his performance was wasted. He could very easily have been named the MVP.

yeah, and i'm happy for him. Boss was huge on his play, and Welker would be MVP had Patriots won.

The reasons the Pats lost. 1. the Giants defense outplayed the Pats O-line. When was the last time Brady was scrambling for his life. 2. Eli came up with plays that mattered most. 3. The DB who was on Plaxico bit a fake inside. I believe it was 27, you don't get paid millions of dollars to let the go to guy get a TD like that. 4. It was bound to happen, a good team having a great night against a great team that was off.

I feel bad for the Pats and Welker, but it was a good run. It came down to the end and the Pats weren't blown out. Just an off night, even though it was the Superbowl.

And I don't buy into that fix BS on the other thread, are you kidding me! The Giants won period. It was not a blow out just the good team beating the great team on the right night.

The play that Eli made on 3 and 5 with the game on the line was perhaps the best play ina Super Bowl ever. And Tyree made a greatcatch at his end. Though I expected the Patriots to win, the reality is that they were a lot more beatable in the second half of the season than the first. They went from blowing out their opponent each week to almost losing to teams like the Eagles and Ravens. The Giants were a hot team and were able to get sustained pressure on Brady, which was the main difference maker in the game. The Patriots usually superhuman o-line was quite human in this one.

The best thing about an otherwise disappointing result was the Manning brothers emerging triumphant in back to back Super Bowls.

If you looked at the final score you may have thought that it was a defensive battle. However, just looking at the Patriots drives; they had nine drives with two drives that ended with time running out (half, and end of game) that don't really count. A superbowl record was set with the end of the 1st quarter not even completing two drives. The Patriots scored 2 TDs and a FG on basically 7 drives. Certainly below their average for the year but somewhat consistent with what they have been doing toward the end of the year. All in all it was an evenly matched game on both sides of the ball and one of the more entertaining superbowls ever.

The Patriots are not infallible. For a great team their defense if just mediocre and their feature RB (Maroney) is below average. The Giants on the other hand have one of the best pass rushes in the NFL along with a couple of RBs that are much better than Maroney. They were smart enough to realize that putting constant pressure on Brady with lots of blitzes was the only way to do it. Not that I predicted a Giants win but I could see that it was definetely possible.

The last-minute drive that Eli Manning made is what makes a great QB. Yes, the play that Eli made and the catch by Tyree could be the most remarkable ever in a Super Bowl. Manning wouldn't give up and Tyree seemed to will himself to hold onto the ball. The Giants excelled themselves to win and that's what it's all about.
