Super Bowl MVP

If Denver wins the Super Bowl, I'd love to see Jake Plummer play a good enough game to win the MVP. White quarterbacks have won in the past, obviously, but none so hirsute as Plummer. It would make a great television image to see a hairy, bearded white man hoisting the Lombardi trophy overhead. If not him, then I hope Roethlisberger doesn't shave til after the game, either.

Although if Denver actually wins the SB, my prediction is Champ Bailey will win the MVP for the one INT he grabs in the game after being burned all day (again.)

Any early predictions or observations for your choice of SB MVP?

If the winning quarterback has a big game he has an edge, as he should since QBs take a wildly disproportionate share of the blame for a team's poor performance. That is unless the quarterback in question is too successful, ala Tom Brady in last year's Super Bowl, in which case it will go to an undeserving black player ala Deion Branch.

I think Nick Goings winning the superbowl MVP would do the most damage to the caste system. Seeing a guy who is mostly white be MVP at RB may change some people's prejudices against white RB.
I'll root for the Panthers all the way. White QB, White Head Coach, White FB, White WR, White TE, and mostly White RB.

He is retiring at the end of the season, but he could always back out.

Too
true. He's from Detroit, that's where the SB is happening this year.
The media has played it up for a month. Hell, yeah, Let's root for the
black pillsbury dough boy.

For me, I'd like Big Ben to get the MVP. The guy has played phenomenally.

Why all the hate for Bettis?

Like you, I think the writing is on the wall. If the Stillers win, Bettis will win the MVP. Feel good story of the year and all that. He won't earn it but that remains to be seen.

Bettis, unlike many athletes, seems to be an okay guy. I haven't read any stories about him beating his wife, using marijuana, getting caught with steroids, whizzinators or masking agents, or soliciting prostitutes.

But there is this account...

Bettis charged with sexual assault...

That was kinda the point of my post, GW. I don't mind Jerome Bettis as much as some of the other guys. Seems OK to me, although he does get treated better than any white fullback or running back of his size ever would.

Mark it down: If Pittsburgh wins, Da Bus is Da MVP, no question. If Seattle wins, Shaun Alexander is the MVP, no question. If either of them has a bad day for the winning team, the MVP selection will be justified by saying that his presence on the field kept the defense in, thus allowing Hasselbeck or Big Ben to find their superstar black receivers.

I'm not sure the Bus gets enough touches in a game to be the MVP. I like Big Ben to win it if the Steelers continue to go to the air attack and win the game.

For some reason, Ben Rothlisberger has been immune to the usual caste system comments and insults. He has a cool nickname and the media says good things about his running ability. They got on his case a little last year because he hardly threw the ball but now he is carrying the Steelers and winning with his arm.

The only other Steeler that could win it would be Hines Ward. If he has a bunch of catches and a TD or two.

This article exonerates Bettis. It appears to be just another loser trying to trap a wealthy athlete.

That's what it was, an attempt at blackmail that went awry.

Bettis is fan friendly and media friendly. He evenlikes to bowl! How many black bowlers are there?

The constant shots during games of his parents in the stands tell much of the reason why he's a good guy. He was brought up well. They've never missed one of his games, home or away. That's the kind of dedicated family love and influence that's missing from so many black athletes' lives. White kids without familial support seem to rarely succeed in sports whereas with black athletesthe more dysfunctional the situation the more the system itself coddles them as a very poor substitute for parents.

Hines Ward (whowas raised by hisKorean mother) is another Steeler whois well-mannered and enthusiasticin an appropriate wayand comes across as a good role model for anyone.Edited by: Don Wassall

White Shogun whats wrong with using marijuana you make it sound like a bad thing. Jake Plummer smokes the herb and so does Big Ben. You make it sound like only black athletes partake in something that should be legal to do. As for whizzinators who cares Ontarrio Smith likes to smoke the bud and shouldn't be penalized for it so he got a drug passing kit. Drug tests are the biggest bunch of b.s. ever. It's like litterally taking a sh%t on the bill of rights.

whiteCB, whether you or anyone else thinks it should be legal is irrelevant. If the Bus got caught with a baggie full of 'should be legal,' he'd still get a conviction and placed into the league's substance abuse program. I personally don't care if people smoke it or not, my point was that, in Bettis' defense, he doesn't even have what you consider to be even the minor allegation of marijuana use against him.

I get what your saying shogun but I just wanted to clarify that marijuana isn't a bad thing its just the laws that make it like that. I know Bettis is a good guy. He suffers from asthma for cryin out loud. lol
