Nash is as close to Stockton as you can get. His ability to find the open man is uncanny. He has around 4 sets of eyes if you ask me. Then on top of that, he is a deadly shooter. His physical condition is always top notch as well. The whole Nash Family grew up playing all sports but espeically soccer. The guy is amazing with a soccer ball and his brother plays pro indoor soccer.

Very few players can pass the ball like Steve Nash! He's a floor general that commands respect! At 35(turns 36 in Feb) he looks as good as he has in a few years...coach Gentry's style has found him the fountain-of-youth! Nearly 50% from 3 pt line; 90% free-throw shooter; nearly 13 assist; leading the league...Nash can rest his backmore tonight with the 26 pt lead....Suns now 8-1 tied for NBA's Best record!! One of my favorite teams!

How about Louis Admundson tonight?? Great energy off the bench with explosive block shots including "pinning " a Hilton Armstrong's dunk attemptto the back-board!!

I appreciate the honor, TJR! But, when it comes to overall sporting analysis, you and JimmyChitwood are by far the best, without doubt! I just happen to be moussing along.

WL, great article! But, I can't help but feel dumbfounded by the amazement of these sporting experts and critics alike. Steve Nash ain't that old (35 going 36), and last season was just a sub-par season for him. Let me name a number of great athletes (black & white) in random who were BUSINESS AS USUAL at age 35/36:

Michael Jordan
Karl Malone
John Stockton
Cal Ripken, Jr.
Brett Favre
John Elway
Darrell Green
John Havlicek
Jerry Rice
Pete Rose
Wayne Gretzky
Mario Lemieux
Kurt Warner
Evander Holyfield
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

While 35/36 is indeed a twilight age for any athlete (great or not), it's nothing to an All-Time great like Steve Nash. He can continue his playing level for several more years if he chooses to. That all depends on the conditioning of his body, and how motivated he is.

No one is saying the Celtics are old, even though their Big 3 (Allen, Pierce & Garnett) are all their 30's. Shaq hardly gets the label old on him, even though he's 38.

If affletes like Lebron ever reach the ages 35/36, it would be a blessing to see critics & experts alike saying he's OLD. Let's just see 10 years from now. I ain't that old!

I think Nash is one of the only white basketball players I have heard make it into modern "hip-hop". A few years back the lyrics were "game MVP like Steve Nash". Is he seen as an exception of being a great player and athlete because he is white? I sure hope not, but he is special regardless of race. Hopefully he can continue his great play and the Suns can pull a few upsets once the playoffs come. The best part of this whole deal is that Phoenix fans will get to watch another talented white pg(Goran Dragic) once Steve Nash is done tearing up the league.

I love the nickname j41181. Can I call you Captain Basketball? I love the in depth analysis you do of the games. It's way better than nba.com does. Steve is off to a great start. They had an article in the local paper saying his stats are equavilent to his m.v.p. seasons. Living in AZ gives me a chance to watch Nash play alot. I must say I'm very lucky. Now if only we could get Nowitzki here, I would not miss a game.

Captain Canada just landed on his native soil and put on a great showing for his countrymen. Suns won 113-94 vs. Toronto. Definitely one of his best performances of the season (just 3 TO's). He's definitely an All-Star next year. To HELL with his age, VOTE for him!!!

This is an interesting article about Mark Cuban's take on the New Jersey Nets (0-18):

http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2009/12/dallas_mavericks_owner_mark_cu.html

Time for another trip down memory lane....

The year was 1999 (was 18 then) and I accidentally stumble into this televised Mavericks game (don't remember the opponent). Back then, I knew next to nothing about Nowitzki and Nash, and I was simply more interested in Jason Williams, and Keith Van Horn. What I saw was crazy....BOO...BOO...BOO! Yes, the boos were on Steve Nash. This interesting upstart was 0-8 from the field, and I saw no sign of this Nowitzki, save for string-bean center Shawn Bradley (who was playing quite well then). Dallas as quite a laughingstock in those days, losing was the norm for them. Then came the 2000-01 season, my frustrations with both J-Will and Van Horn led me to Steve Nash, who was having a breakout year, and eventually Dirk Nowitzki.

I then happened upon this televised Dallas game on a Saturday morning of 2001. It was the very first game I ever saw of Nowitzki, and by golly, was he one heck of a player (even then). Dude really could run the floor, and shoot the ball. He was actually at that point, much better than both Schrempf and Kukoc (even at the height of their careers). Dirk had about 20 points in that very game, including 4 triples. Nash was quietly brilliant for the most part. I didn't have much internet access back then, so I tried to keep on tabs with both Dirk and Nash through sports pages, and NBA Action (great to watch then).

After for sometime, that's when I saw the classic televised first-round Utah-Dallas clash. It was truly the passing of the torch series, Stockton to Nash & Nowitzki. Ever since that amazing upset by Dallas on Utah, both Dirk and Nash haven't looked back, and I have never stopped following them (in a casual sense). Never in my wildest (or anybody's) dreams would these two ever become MVP winners, and HOF candidates, in which they BOTH ARE. It's truly a blessing to have SEEN these two perform at the height of their careers. Just enjoy every moment of them from now on, because it may take several years or more to see more white guys like them again, once they're gone.

Nash could play any team in the league and automatically make them better. He is just that good. He's not my favorite pg of all time though. I like Stockton better.

Nash is behind the injured Tracy McGrady by 9000 votes for a starting position in the All-Star game. McGrady gets most of his votes from China out of loyalty because of him being a teammate of Yao Ming. I vote everyday at NBA.COM for Nash, Dirk, Kaman,Lee and others and I urge you fellow CF posters and lurkers to do the same.

I have been voting for Steve Nash, Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki, David Lee, Chris Kaman (write-in) for the last few days now. I plan to do it sveral more times.

Brilliant game by Captain Canada, leading the Suns to a 116-104 win over the Spurs. I keep wondering why all the criticism claims of him having no defense at all. I just saw Steve Nash draw 3 charges in today's game. Nash is always throwing his body in harms way. So to say he has no defense is plain stupid. Tonight's game proves he can play defense. But the night really belonged to GORAN DRAGIC, who had a career-night:

Goran Dragic - 18 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist (4-5 3pt's)
Steve Nash - 25 points, 3 rebounds, 13 assists, 1 steal

Nash had a monster game last night. His stats were 36 points, 9 assists and 2 steals. The best pure point guard in the league hands down.

Just in the case of Nowitzki, I find it astonishing on everyone's amazement on Nash's playing level and AGE. It doesn't surprise me one bit (sounds arrogant, eh?) Nash has always been a great player (regardless of his age). Last season, was just a series of stupid changes and experiments which made Nash look old. He never endured health problems and injuries last season. The coaching and team chemistry changes was the ABSOLUTE reason to Nash's '08-09 roller-coaster season, where-in a lumbering giant (Shaq) couldn't keep up with Nash's play. That fact Nash is playing at a supreme level (maybe his best ever), proves he's far from done as an NBA player. I'm really looking forward to him making the 2010 All-Star game. Like Dirk, an NBA title is what's missing from this superstar guard. He's actually been the NBA's best for several years.

The Phoenix Suns won a big game over the LA Lakers, 118-103. Superb performance by Steve Nash, the best I've seen of him in a while. His succesor, Goran Dragic (14 points) was also brilliant. I see Dragic emerging in the same manner as Beno Udrih. Udrih played for 3 years behind Tony Parker, and he eventually emerged into a solid PG on his own (with luck of course). For the moment, I see Dragic becoming like Beno Udrih.

Nash leads Phoenix to a massacre win over the Celtics, 118-96. This is an impressive article about the Ageless Wonder from Canada:

Nash continues to defy age, skeptics
I watched the ESPN highlights of the game, and they portrayed it as a Stoudemire/Frye-fest, but all of the highlights that were shown showed Nash being the one who made it possible for them to have their big games. He didn't get much of a mention, however.

Despite the 128-103 massacre loss to Memphis, Nash still had a good game on par with his season averages.

19 points (8-15 FG's, 2-4 3pt's, 1-2 FT's)
4 rebounds
13 assists

His young protege, Goran Dragic, is fast reaching Barea's level.

13 points (5-9 FG's, 1-1 3pt's, 2-4 FT's)
2 rebounds
1 assist, steal, block

Even though it may seem unnoticeable, Nash's days are clearly numbered. With his 36th birthday just around the corner, the Ageless Wonder from Canada just put a performance to remember. A scintillating 113-109 win over the young and emerging Kings. Evans, Udrih, and Casspi are all very good and are no doubt the stars of the future. But, not while Captain Canada is till around. One of the best I've ever seen of Nash.

30 points (8-16 FG's, 1-3 3pt's, 13-13 FT's)
3 rebounds
12 assists

Nash is playing great. He is playing better than Magic, Stockton and even Kidd when they were the same age. It's not even close. The guy is a legend. Steve Nash is on a gluten free, fat and sugar free diet. He says he feels at least 10 years younger and he is trying to get his teammates to change the way they eat. The Suns are playing some good ball at the moment.

Nash is also only 1000 votes behind McGrady. Let's get him starting in the all star game!

Couldn't agree more, WL! Nash putting one of the best seasons ever by a 35 and above player is no fluke. Few are able to play so well at his age. Jordan and Malone are only a few who can measure up to Nash. No way Dirk will be playing well at 35 and above. I'm not too concerned with Nash's deficit on T-Mac (because he's a free agent). Nash will obviously get the start

Nash just schooled 2 very young and BALL-HOGGING players (Tyreke Evans and Aaron Brooks) back-to-back. Proof that young and athleticism isn't everything. Experience is always the best teacher.

26 points (11-16 FG's, 2-2 3pt's, 2-2 FT's)
