good job steve gregory. its very rare a white db isnt the one blamed for secondary problems whether he is really the problem or not. Steve Gregory has obviously proven himself to the Chargers.

Rookie Darrell Stuckey becomes the favorite to open the season as San Diego's starting strong safety with Kevin Ellison waived.

His competition will be Steve Gregory, who like Ellison is better in run support than coverage. Stuckey, a do-it-all rookie from Kansas, should shoot up IDP draft boards. Strong safety can be a productive position in San Diego.

I was just wondering why noone in this website brought up Steve Gregory's 4 game suspension for testing positive for PEDs last year. Ive noticed a recent trend the last decade of white cornerbacks who when they get to the NFL are moved to safety and then get busted for PEDs. Is it maybe because players like Gregory ARE cornerbacks not safeties. Its sad these guys are forced to bulk up to play a position that is not natural to them. I had the pleasure of watching Gregory play corner at Syracuse and he was awesome. He should have been at least a fourth round draft pick. There was another white corner way back form App. State named Matt Stevens. Some draft gurus had him taken in the first round except he had a knee injury his senior year and was taken in the 3rd by the Bills. No big surprise when they immediately moved him to safety in rookie camp and 4 months later he was busted for steroids. The guy only weighed 180 pounds and that is just to small for a Nfl safety. If whites keep getting funneled into caste positions these types of incidents are going to keep happening. Look at Kevin Kaesviharn. He actually was allowed to play corner for a couple of years and then moved to safety because the coaches said he had problems with his hips when he went to turn and run with the receiver. well if that was really the case wouldint these stupid coaches have figured this out in practice and make him a safety beforehand? something stinks and we all know its the caste system.

This trend could be because these guys have tweener body types where they can bulk up and be smallish(modern) safeties. From what I have noticed pure corners like Nate Soeleberg aren't even looked at because he they can't bulk up and play safety. The scouting bias against White corners is probably worse than tailbacks. As a big tailback can play tailback or fullback. While a skinny corner can only play corner. Back before steroids took over football corner backs had builds like 200 meter runners and safeties weren't much larger than corner backs. The rare corner was stocky like Mel Blount was.

When Bob Sanders (knee) went down, the undersized Gregory was expected to be spelled at times by Paul Oliver. But the former undrafted free agent is holding his own and running with the job. He has ten tackles over the last two weeks.
