This is from the 6/4/07 issue of USA TODAY. It concerns the career passing stats of Michael Vick. Can you guess the one QB he was ahead of in passing accuracy last year

-Career passer rating of 75.7 for Vick, who has never been higher than 81.6.
-Career completion percentage of 53.8%. His 52.6% rate in 2006 showed a decline for the third consecutive season. His best: 56.4% in 2004. Of 32 quarterbacks with a qualifying number of passing attempts last season, every one but Vince Young, the Tennessee Titans rookie, was more accurate.
-If Vick stood around to see what defenses were up to, he would not have rushed for 1,039 yards last season, a record for quarterbacks. He has run for 3,859 yards in his career and averaged 7.3 yards an attempt, no small reason the Falcons led the NFL in rushing the last three years (but were last in passing in 2006).
This clown isa backup at best. Yet he gets endorsements, magazine covers and is lauded by the sports media. That black skin privilege sure gets these people far. Looks like Vince Young is the next beneficiary. He might even be worse than Vick!
 
Wow, hard to believe that someone actually wrote such an article. He must have pissed off some animal rights activist at the newspaper!

Don't forget the " Cannon" armed Ja-mucus Russell. He is another Dulpepper in the making. Only no Moss to run under his overthrown passes. Most of the guys I've talked to believe the propaganda that Ja-mucus is going to be a super star. I love it cause it's so much fun to watch them struggle. Vick's pocket presence resembles a fly on a red hot frying pan. I want him to stay with the falcons and the NFL for many years to come, due to the comedy relief every time he takes a snap.
 
It's been fun living in Atlanta throughout the Vick fiasco. Even many
blacks are firmly opposed to Vick suiting up as starting QB for the
Falcons.

With Finneran hurt again though, the Falcons passing attack is due to
suffer regardless of who is tossing the pigskin.

Not a moment goes by in "The City to Busy to Hate" that racial animosity
isn't seething behind the shiny veneer of the skyscrapers that dot the
Atlanta skyline.

Whatever happens to Vick legally speaking, will only push the topic of
race farther into the discussion.
 
I wonder if he could even play receiver. When he retires, he will go down in history as a great legend and pioneer, but kids visiting Canton will always wonder why he is in the Hall.

Not only is he a totally overrated passer with his "cannon arm", but he isn't even the best running QB in the NFL.Edited by: Freedom

as much as i dislike Vick and what he represents, who is a better running QB than him that plays in the NFL atm?

With scrambling and power running for yardage taken into account, Mike McMahon(formerly), Jared Zabransky, and Steve Young(formerly) were all comparable in running ability to Vick. So was Eric Crouch. So was/is Matt Jones.

All the really good running quarterbacks haven't had the opportunity to run in the NFL like Vick. So you've got a point.

I tell you what:
I'd bet that Matt Jones could be just as good a QB as Vick.
 
RE: the Hall of Fame

Its maddening, I know, but the HoF sometimes is or isn't stats and numbers. If numbers alone determined HoF status, Art Monk would be in. The HoF is frequently a place for those 'who I saw with my own eyes', and damn the numbers. Its for players who looked great, regardless of production in many cases.
 
The Mike/Michael Vick phenomenon appears to be a neverending story. What other QB in the modern era put up such woeful passing stats in the first several seasons in the league, and still retained his job?
