I'll go on record as saying Tiger Woods is the best golfer in the world at present. But the way he is worshipped by the media is beyond amazing. I truly believe that one day I'll pick up my morning sportspage and read something like this....

Tiger Woods showed at the (insert tournament name here) today why he is the best golfer of all-time, as he overcame horrendous playing conditions, unruly fan behavior and his own very slow start to rally from an early 6 over par score, to finish his round at one under.
Falling victim to heavy winds and intermittant rain that fell all day long, Tiger nevertheless perservered, guided by his supreme mental toughness and unmatched golfing nerve, qualities only he possesses. After bogies on his opening three holes and an unheard of triple bogey on the fifth hole, Tiger gained momentum on number six. As he prepared to hit his drive there, a man in the crowd had the nerve to cry out in pain, apparently at the onset on a heart attack. Tiger's piercing glare in the direction of this despicable "fan" sent Tiger-lovers in the crowd to the rescue, and they proceeded to do the right thing, as they choked and beat the man senseless. "Let's go Tiger!" they shouted triumphantly, as the hooligan breathed his last.
And go he did, sinking a 75-five foot par for eagle, and proceeding with a dazzling display of shotmaking, which brought him to within 12 shots of the lead going into tomorrow's round.
"He can win this thing, said (insert worshipping announcer, fan, or fellow golfer), that's how great he is."
Tournament leader (insert name here) shot a PGA record 58, which included two holes in one.

Wow. You're right, Don. Burts post, impressive and glowing in praise for Tiger as it is, tongue firmly in cheek, has nothing on what this guy wrote. He has some serious man love for Tiger Woods. I bet he'd bear his children, if it were medically possible. Edited by: White Shogun

Anyone who calls a golfer-any golfer, anywhere, no matter how good-the greatest individual athlete ever should be considered an idiot, and would be, if it wasn't for the fact that Tiger is an Asian mistaken for a negro.

Golfers are not athletes.

His article would have made more sense if he titled it: "Woods is the Greatest Winner of all Time." Still incorrect but more accurate than "athlete."

Burts; that post was hilarious. And sadly, not too far from what we read on a daily basis in our "nation's" newspapers concerning St. Woods not to mention his fellow canonized affletes; St. Vick, St. Young (yes, already), St Sarina and St. Venus.

Burts... did you read this article before you posted this? I swear, you guys must be looking over each other's shoulder. Driving rain, coming from behind, bogies, eagles, long putts... it's all there.

Before Tiger Woods burst onto the scene, the media (and EVERY sports fan) would consistently mock the notion of golfers being labeled as athletes. I think that belief still exists, however due to the non-stop worship of Tiger Woods, those same jock-sniffers and fans have had to reassess their position. Of course, they still ridicule most of the white golfers (especially "dough boys" like Mickelson and Colin Montgomerie), but never, ever lump Tiger in with the rest of them. I actually heard some idiot on a sports talk radio show recently claim that Tiger Woods was the greatest athlete ever!

Great post, Burts!

You need to check out the articles that have been linked in these posts, bigunreal. They say that, and more.

No, WS, didn't see it, would like to, but when I clicked the link, I got lost in some kind of netherworld. I'm having some kind of problem when trying most of the links.

I remember listening to the callers of a local talk show debating the athleticism of golfers, bowlers and pool players. The bowlers were perceived to be more athletic than golfers, who were only slightly moreso than pool and billiards players. They believed that the most difficult thing to accomplishwas the development of a consistent stroke or swing. If you can do that, you can be a great hustler or golfer. Matters little, generally speaking, if one is old, fat, short, tall, nearsighted, flat footed or fairly out of shape.

My opinion is that it certainly helps to be trim, athletic and in good shape, but golf is primarily a game of skill . Many great athletes are lousy golfers and many non-athletes are excellent golfers.

Notice that Tiger the golfer is "the greatest athlete" but you have idiots saying that Lance Armstrong isn't, I.E, the famous "he just peddles a bike remark". Yeah, he just peddles it like 10 times longer and faster than you, me Tiger Woods, or most ******** on this planet could without their legs falling off. No athletics there, I suppose?
