Sports Illustrated has issued an excerpt from a book detailing Barry Bonds' use of steroids over the last seven years. The book goes into minute detail using evidence from the FedGov's case against BALCO, concerning Bonds' use of steroids and other performance enhancing substances. Apparently Bonds was not satisfied supplementing his workouts with a few run of the mill steroids. He used the newest and most potent steroids on the market. He also supplemented them with HGH-human growth hormone, EPO (a performance enhancer), and even insulin (yes, the same stuff taken by diabetics). These illegal actions are entirely responsible for making Bonds the player he has been for the last few years.
Bonds was the guinea pig of Victor Conte, the mastermind behind the BALCO company which built a number of world class athletes through their knowledge of chemical athletic enhancement. By any kind of standard Bonds has embarrassed the game of baseball beyond repair; he should be banned and his records deleted. It won't happen though. Bonds and his supporters will be able to play the race card as protection against the justice he should receive.
The most interesting aspect of the book on Bonds' steroid use is the revelation of what kind of person he really is. He has always been described as "surly" or rude. But the image of Bonds painted in this book is of a man who is profoundly mean and racist. His whole rationale for turning to steroids to improve his power stats was merely to surpass Mark McGwire because McGwire is white. He hated McGwire and the popularity he experienced, especially in 1998 as McGwire obliterated Roger Maris' single season home run record.
Thus you have Bonds, a man who was raised in an affluent white neighborhood, whose best friend is white, who has married and slept with numerous white women, who is worshipped and adored by millions of white fans  and he HATES white people! He sees racism in every corner of his world even as he regularly lives with, and I suppose loves, various white people.
Not only is Bonds a mean-spirited racist but he is a world class jerk, bullying and mistreating every one around him. He seems to be universally disliked by everyone who knows him, yet they publicly act as if he is a great guy. Bonds divorced his first wife, who was white, began a long term affair with another white woman, then suddenly married a black woman, telling his then white girlfriend that he needed to marry a black woman to get the press off his back. Of course he continued to sleep with the girlfriend until, as is typical with guys like Bonds, he angrily assaulted her and threatened to kill her.
Contrast the reaction to the story about Bonds with the Sports Illustrated article written about John Rocker the relief pitcher. Rocker made a few innocuous remarks to a reporter about the type of low class people that ride New York subways. For that he was pilloried, hounded, forced to undergo sensitivity training, and eventually driven out of baseball. Rocker's life was destroyed for a few remarks of bad taste. Bonds has led the life of a racist, yet there is virtually no mention of his racism and little public condemnation.
The double standard concerning race issues is frustrating to many white people. It is common and pervasive. I have traveled this great country far and wide and speak to many people in all walks of life and it is obvious that this issue is growing larger and larger each day. Blacks and other minorities can behave in a clearly racist manner and there are no repercussions, in fact it often helps their careers. They can have separate clubs, organizations, businesses, and schools. They have thousands of representatives that act for them and their interests exclusively. They can speak freely, act criminally, and yet continue to thrive.
One may be puzzled by this odd and tragic situation and ask himself "why does this happen?" Why are there such large differences between the races? Why do white people open up their hearts, their homes, and their wallets, only to receive such poor treatment by the very people they are trying to help? It is a difficult question to answer and one that has many complicated and difficult facets to it.
There is one item however that plays a very large role in this issue. White people have evolved societies based upon certain cultural traits common to our people. Our race has developed cooperative behaviors so that we can work together under certain universally understood moral principles that create an environment whereby group success is guaranteed.
White societies adopted a method of dealing with each other that were based upon certain moral imperatives. In "Two Treatises of Government," the English philosopher John Locke laid out the basics of this morality. He stated that we voluntarily live in a "civil" society. This was in exchange for living in the uncontrolled wildness and violence of a lawless "natural" world. Thus we give up certain natural desires such as the urge to snatch anything we want from someone else or the rush to violent settlement of disputes, and instead we behave with manners and good taste. All in exchange for a better world for our prodigy and ourselves to live in.
This idea of civil and uncivil society was the basis for how life has been lived in Europe and other white settled lands around the globe. Civilization was what the white man had created and he tried to bring it to others, with mixed success. This white morality was underpinned by a devout belief in an all-powerful God that passed judgment on a person, and punished or rewarded him based upon his adherence to those principles. Thus the ultimate reward of eternal salvation was based upon good moral behavior.
Other societies did not develop along these lines. Thus, the peoples of those lands never developed a high sense of morality that would fit into the mores of a white civilization. In many ways they still live as if in a state of nature. Stealing, rape, assault, poor long-term planning, are all signs of a person that does not understand our "program." White people have lived under the impression that immersion in a society based upon such civil morality would convince those not so disposed to adapt that behavior. It has not. In fact those non-civil, non-whites have actually destroyed the foundations and the concepts of our civil societies.
And, as the God that enforced such behavior with the threat of eternal damnation has been de-emphasized and often altered to stand for the complete opposite of what He once did, we find our society adrift. Barry Bonds and others of his ilk litter our world. They are everywhere, they are multiplying and they have no compunctions on living their lives minus the basic moral assumptions that our parents and our parents' parents instilled in us.
So the behavior of Bonds and that of other non-whites is no mystery. It is culturally ingrained. As long as we allow their culture to be the dominant one then we will be at a disadvantage, living our moral lives in a society which instead rewards them for living immoral lives. The key is to return our morality to the dominant paradigm. Short of finding ourselves living in all white societies, we must shun the faulty moral assumptions that underlie the precepts of the non-white world.
