Russian heavyweight Sergey Rozhnov won his pro debut today, easily winning a four round decision over former a world title challenger, Jamaican Owen Beck (29-9, age 35).

Sergey had a good amateur record, winning several Gold medals. He had wins over Alexander Dimitrenko and Mariusz Wach, and losses to Roberto Cammarelle and Alexander Povetkin.

1998 (August 22-30) competed at the 3.European Cadet Championships in Jurmala, Latvia, boxing as a Heavyweight (+81 kg). His results were:
Quarterfinal - Lost to Peter Jacura (Slovakia)
1999 (March 3-7) Silver Medalist Sorokin Junior Memorial in Noginsk, Russia, boxing as a Heavyweight (91 kg):
Semifinal - Defeated Ivan Mosin (Russia) 8-3
Final - Lost to Alexandr Nikiforov (Russia) RSCI 3

1999 (April 25 - May 2) Silver Medalist Russian Junior National Championships in Magnitogorsk, boxing as a Heavyweight (91 kg):
Round of 16 - Defeated Evgeniy Okhlopkov 18-6
Quarterfinal - Defeated Alexey Ulanov 8-4
Semifinal - Defeated Denis Popov 8-3
Final - Lost to Igor Alborov 1-8

2000 (May 8-14) Gold Medalist Russian Junior National Championships in Saratov, boxing as a Super Heavyweight (+91 kg):
Quarterfinal - Defeated Denis Sergeyev DQ 4
Semifinal - Defeated Valeriy Duryagin 9-4
Final - Defeated Alexander Dimitrenko 4-3

2001 (August 14-19) Gold Medalist 8.Black Sea Cup in Sevastopol, Ukraine, boxing as a Super Heavyweight (+91 kg).

2003 (October 16-19) Bronze Medalist 4.Oil Producing Countries Cup in Nizhnevartovsk, Russia, boxing as a Super Heavyweight (+91 kg).

2003 (November 14-16) Bronze Medalist 47.Golden Gloves of Belgrade in Loznica, Serbia and Montenegro, boxing as a Super Heavyweight (+91 kg):
Semifinal - Lost to Islam Timurziev (Russia)

2003 (November 27-29) Silver Medalist 24.Copenhagen Cup in Copenhagen, Denmark, boxing as a Heavyweight (91 kg):
Final - Lost to Alexander Povetkin (Russia) 17-25

2004 (February 19-29) Bronze Medalist 35.European Championships in Pula, Croatia, boxing as a Super Heavyweight (+91 kg):
Round of 32 - Defeated Milan Vaselevich (Serbia and Montenegro) 32-14
Round of 16 - Defeated Alexander Apanasionok (Belarus) 27-15
Quarterfinal - Defeated Mariusz Wach (Poland) 33-25

What a tremendous professional debut. Certainly, the highest level of opposition Ive seen in a Pro Debut in quite a long time. I'm struggling to think of the last time a fighter fought a world title challenger in their pro debut.

Excellent result for Rozhnov :)
