According to boxingscene this fight is signed and will take place in November. The fight will take place in NYC or Atlantic City. This depends on Kovalev winning his fight tomorrow, against Blake Capparello.

You know I can remember back in 2008 or so when Hopkins fought white American Kelly Pavlik. At that time, Pavlik was an undefeated knockout artist and looked unstoppable (similar to how Kovalev is viewed today). Mpst boxing fans, myself included thought Pavlik would win by KO but we were proven wrong when Bernard boxed brilliantly and seemed to win every round. Pavlik struggled to land anything all night and never got going.

So, this is a very risky fight for Sergey. Bernard is never an easy fight and even when he has lost, its usually been to speedy or volume-punching based fighters like Joe Calzaghe. If Bernard does have a weakness its his lack of punching output (Bernard often throws only 30 punches a round) and at times Bernard can be a bit slow. Therefore it is crucial that Sergey throws many punches, lets his hands go, and dictates a fast pace.

Fortunately, I think Sergey is better than Pavlik in terms of defense, speed, and he hits harder, so it should definitely be a closer fight. Obviously, with Sergey's power he can literally end the fight with a single shot.

This is a real test for Sergey. We know he hits hard but agaonst Hopkins we'll see how good his accuracy, defense, and movement is.

If Sergey lets his hands go often I think he beats Bernard.

If Bopkins clearly beats Kovalev then he is from a different planet. There is no reason that Sergey should lose to a 50 year fighter with so many fights and really does not have power at 175 lbs. Wonder how much his share of the purses will be?

Pavlik was ruined by the bottle. Hard core alcoholic.

Lol. Yeah man.

I hope Sergey wins. It's a real test for him. Bernard is as tricky as they come.

Race aside, its an interesting clash of styles. Powerpuncher VS defensive specialist.

Sergey can win it if he outthrows Bernard.

Westside, do you know if he was drinking heavy at that time? I know he's a drunk now.
WA 33, its common knowledge. Pavlik admitted it and months out of his fight with bopkins, he started to have incidents while intoxicated. Really too bad that Kelly let the bottle ruin him. If its hard liquor, the end game will be bad for him and family.

Westside, hard liquor? Is there really a difference? A drunk is a drunk.

While is is true that a drunk is a drunk its been my own personal experience that liquor drunks are much meaner, and have a much better chance of their livers shuting down. While beer drunks can be subject to the same things, it seems to me that liquor drunks are much more prone to those things.

As far as this bout goes I dont ever see it happening. Hopkins stands no chance unless the bout is fixed.

Yeah, but beer has a lot of water in it. It gives a mellow buzz and less destructive on the body over the long run. Also, see Wes Woodhead post. My exact sentiments.

Much, much more to come about this fight. For now I'm glad it is signed. It may or may not happen. If the sky is blue, Kovalev ought to break through Hopkins and floor him for good. Yes, I'm back. This site was hacked for the longest time and I could never get on.

Kovalev should try to get him out of there as soon as possible or use the strategy that Maidana did against Mayweather and just go after him with everything. One thing you don't want to do is let Hopkins dictate the pace of the fight like many of his past opponents have done.

I remember posting here that I didn't like the idea of Pavlik fighting Hopkins, before the fight happened. I had a bad feeling about it.

This one however I have a good feeling about.

Me too. Glad to see you back. There are so few people on here.

Many servers seem to hack this place so when you try to get on you just get nonsense drug ads. I've found that certain browsers work on my Android tab and others don't. Dolphin and Opera work. Incogman's website is much harder to get.

What time is this fight?

Does anyone follow that black guy Dwyer online? He does the gambling predictions and he's picking Hopkins to win this fight because apparently Kovalev is limited and can only throw mid range hooks and straight power shots. He says Hopkins will be able to hold and block those punches and win a UD.

Kovalev should outright win, no excuses. If Super Joe Calzaghe beat bopkins, Sergey should as well.

Yep, I sometimes watch Dwyer's videos. The important thing to remember about Dwyers videos is that he is trying to beat the casino. He doesnt necessarily predict fights, he just recommends betting strategies that he thinks will yield the most gains.

For the most part I find his commentary very fair. If anyone's interested he also posted an opinionated piece online (I think it was on his youtube) concerning Rubin Hurricane Carter where he argued that in his opinion Carter was guilty of the murders and should have remained in jail. It is refreshing to see a black man who tries to approach things rationally, instead of just blindly supporting an alleged criminal because he is black.

As for the Kovalev-Hopkins fight, Dwyer initially predicted Kovalev would KO Hopkins, but he later changed that pick and is now predicting a Hopkins UD. Personally, I think its because Kovalev was dropped in the Capparello fight, because that seems to be when Dwyer suddenly changed his mind.

I used to gamble extensively on boxing and often used Dwyers videos as a second opinion. If you follow his advice, you usually will come out on the better side of wagers.

Some people have actually suggested that he's biased against black American fighters and pro-European. I don't know about all that but he does seem to know his boxing and speaks well. I'm hoping his prediction is wrong though.

Quick question here for some of the regular boxing posters? Has anyone here seen the Hopkins-Dawson fight? All over boxingnews24 people are saying Hopkins got schooled yet he only lost by majority decision with two judges scoring it 117-111 Dawson and one, Luis Rivera, scoring it even 114-114. Was Hopkins dominated and ole ' Rivera doing his home cooking?

I saw that fight. Nothing of note to remember. Dawson was too quick and would not allow Bopkins to grab and throw one or 2 punches. I had Dawson winning at least 10 rounds. It was a dud fight as most of Bopkins are.

Kovalev has to knock the old toothless bastard out and he's never been knocked out.No judge is going to give him a decision win over El Negro Magnificento. I wouldn't be surprised if ole man had Adelaide Byrd in there as one of the judges so she could do the same thing as in the Calzaghe fight. Hopkins will hold the entire fight.

Sergey has to maintain distance. He has long arms, easy to do. Establish his jab, tax Bernard's body with his vicious body shots. Then switch it up every now and then and clobber him with head shot. Easy fight for a young, skilled and hungry fighter. There should be no excuses why Sergey does not get a KO or at least UD. Also, if they try to sneak Byrd in as a judge, that is where Kovalev's corner says absolutely not.

Hopkins actually has the longer reach, 75 to 72.
