In a fight of the year candidate, Marcos "El Chino" Maidana (34-4, 31 KOs) dropped welterweight champion Adrien "The Problem" Broner (27-1, 22 KOs) twice and took away his WBA belt with a twelve round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Maidana immediately cracked Broner with a right hand in the first round and had Broner holding on. Maidana continued the aggression in round two and dropped Broner. Maidana continued to pummel Broner for the rest of the round. Round three was close, but Maidana outworked Broner again in round four. Broner landed the cleaner shots in rounds five and six. Miadana upped the pressure in the seventh but also appeared to be slowing down. Maidana dropped Broner again in round eight, but then was deducted a point for an intentional headbutt. Maidana had a big round nine punishing Broner with big shots. Maidana was busier again in the tenth. Broner's corner advised him that he needed a KO entering the eleventh. Both fighters landed big shots in the eleventh, with Broner connecting right at the bell. A desperate Broner fought hard in the twelfth looking for a KO that didn't come. Scores were 115-110, 116-109, 117-109.

Just saw the fight, and Congratulations to Marcos Maidana on an excellent win!

I know I didn't post a prediction on this site, but before the fight, I genuinely considered Maidana a live underdog and I knew there was a good possibility he would pull the upset. Quite frankly, Ive always considered Broner overrated and to be honest I thought he was very lucky to get a decision win in his last fight VS Paulie Malignaggi. I thought that fight was a draw. Other than the Malignaggi fight, Broner has never really fought anyone noteworthy. So, before tonight, I thought Maidana had a real chance to pull the upset and I'm glad he did!

Broner got beat up really bad in this fight. This fight was a one-sided beating. According to the CompuBox numbers on Showtime, Maidana landed close to 250 punches, Broner landed close to 150 punches, so Maidana effectively outlanded Broner 2-to-1 in all punches. This was not a close fight, and a 2-1 ratio of landed punches indicates a very one sided fight. Maidana beat the hell out of Broner, landing his left hook all night, dropping Broner twice, and after the fight Broner looked disoriented, bloody, and seemed to have a huge swelling on his face (most likely Broner suffered a broken jaw).

Broner took many punches to the head and quite honestly this is the type of fight that can cause brain damage. I suspect he will be taken to a hospital, not just for the huge swelling on his face, but also a CAT scan will be in order.

This guy Broner was never as good as people were building him up and Marcos proved that tonight. Personally I scored the fight 9 rounds to 3 in favour of Maidana, which is a score of 116-109. I can agree with 117-108, 116-109, or 115-110 cards.

Adrien Broner entered the ring rapping, dancing, and acting like a "gangster" in front of Maidana, trying to intimidate him, but by round 2, Broner was dropped hard and bleeding heavy, in the 8th he was dropped again, and he was totally beaten up and lost his belt.

This fight was a one-sided beating, and after the fight it looked like Broner had suffered a concussion and likely a broken jaw.

As Broner left the ring with his entourage of rappers, fans threw bottles, cups, and food at him and his entourage. People were literally throwing empty beer cups, plastic bottles, and potato chips at Broner and his mob as they left the ring.

BS 2, the boxing forums are going completely wild tonight about this fight. I know Maidana is not white but I really wanted to see him kill that puke Broner. Its really amazing how many people feel the same way about that bastard. I mean he is really, really hated! The crap that came out of his mouth would of plugged a row of public toilets. Broner just got some humble pie dished out to him and it was served cold. He looked stationary and small and his power was not there against Maidana. I think this about ends the discussion of him cleaning out the division. Maidana now can get big money with a Khan rematch, a fight against Mthysee or even Mayweather, worst case scenario for him is a hard ball negotiation with Broner and he gets the lion share of the purse in a rematch.

Honestly, because the fight was in Texas, I thought before the fight that Broner was going to get a SD or a UD. But I could tell by the weigh-in videos and photos that Broner was worried and Chino was determined. I thought Chino was going to hurt Broner but lose a "close" decision. But, like I always say, if you smash them up enough even the ref and judges can't take it away from the winner.

Broner struggled against Malignaggi...eeking out a decision. He showed that when he fights at 147(which is his true weight), he has no power and can't man handle guys like he was doing in the smaller divisions. He's been fighting much smaller guys his whole career. He isn't a top echelon fighter and he gets hit much more than Mayweather does. Malignaggi has no power, so I knew when he fought someone in the division with any power he was gonna be in trouble. Maidana isn't one of the top 5 guys in the division in my opinion, but more of a top guy gate keeper so to speak. However Maidana can be fun to watch and always comes to fight. It could be fun to watch Provodnikov end Broners career next!

Nobody mentioned it but in the 8th round Maldana got fed up with Broner's holding so he head butted Broner right in the chin blatantly. Broner looked at the ref, grabbed his chin, and walked away. Then it seemed to occur to him he might have a way out so he fell down and started rolling around on the canvas, obviously hoping for a DQ win. Anyway, the ref wasn't having it (although he did seem to be favoring Broner up to that point) and ordered him back to his ass beating. That little sequence along with Broner briefly trying to hump Maldana in the 2nd round tells us all what we already knew of Gayweather the 2nd's character.

The scary thing is there are millions of these cretins walking the streets without a boxing career to at least somewhat occupy them.

You know, I've been watching boxing almost religiously for about 15 years now. Perhaps the biggest take-away I've learned from watching boxing for so long is that race has nothing to do with who is going to win a fight.

I've seen literally thousands of fights where Negroes have been knocked out by Caucasians, or Asians, or Hispanics. Anyone who is under the false belief that Negroes are superior athletes would do well to watch fighters like Lucian Bute, Sergey Kovalev, Gennady Golovkin, these guys have produced some absolutely hellacious KO's (many times against Negroes) and epitomize athletic ability. Sergey Kovalev, hits harder than anyone of any race, I've ever seen before.

When you look at boxing, you have champions and extremely talented fighters from all races. You have highly successful White boxers, Asian boxers, Latino boxers, and so on.

Race is a non-factor in determining boxing ability. What's more important in succeeding as a boxer (or any athlete) is confidence, experience, and discipline. The fact that you have so many races successful in top-level boxing is a testament to that.

When Broner did a dry hump on Chino the referee should have immediately taken a point for that classless stunt. I can think of a few referees that would never put up with that pro wrestling junk move. Back when Carlos Padilla was working as referee he deducted a point off of the Hector Camacho for faking touching the gloves and trying to sucker punch Greg Haugen. Mills Lane also never allowed classless behaviour like that. As bad as various boxers have been including Camacho I don't recall anybody else doing that move...
