Glad to see Ryan Sandberg and Wade Boggs make the Hall of Fame. Can't believe Larry Doby made it some years ago and not Roger Maris. The greatest players of all-time were white you could make up whole teams with nothing but white players. How's this for a couple of teams;Rf Babe Ruth,Lf Ted Williams,Cf Mickey Mantle,1b Lou Gehrig,2b Ryan Sandberg,Ss Cal Ripken,3b Brooks Robinson C Johnny Bench, P Bob Feller. Another all white team of superstars could be Rf Stan Musial,Lf Ty Cobb,Cf Joe Dimaggio,1b Mark McGwire,2b Nellie Fox,Ss Lou Boudreau,3b Mike Schimdt,C Carlton Fisk,P Tom Seaver.Let me know your picks for the greatest white players of all-time!!!

Here's some more:

Catcher: Mickey Cochrane, Bill ****ey, Yogi Berra
1B: Jimmie Foxx, Harmon Killebrew, Bill Terry, Cap Anson, Hank Greenburg
2B: Charley Gehringer, Bill Mazeroski
SS: Honus Wagner, Rogers Hornsby, Robin Yount
3B: Ed Matthews, Pie Traynor, George Brett
OF: Tris Speaker, Harry Heilmann, Mel Ott
P: all the great ones with the exception of Bob Gibson, and Gibson is over-rated because he is usually ranked as one of the best ever when he ranks just below that level

In coming years the Hall of Fame will resemble a run down inner city, lots of blacks but even more hispanics.

I predict the following.
Look for a push to get some black players into the Hall like Willie McGee, Willie Wilson, Mickey Rivers, Vince Coleman, Tim Raines, etc. Speedy, black outfielders that slapped the ball around and stole bases, but couldn't field to save their lives.

Blacks used to have some very good players at a few special positions.

Catcher: Campenella, Elston Howard, etc. all in the hall already. There has not been a good American born black catcher in decades.

All the catchers that will have hall of fame credentials in the next twenty years will be Hispanic.

1st base: once a good spot for blacks that could just not play the outfield no matter how much they were forced to try (McCovey, Thomas, **** Allen, etc.) Now 1st base is reserved for hispanic players that can't play the outfield (think Ortiz) and whites that are segregated to play there because they are not allowed to play the outfield.

Middle infielders. All Hispanic. The smaller white guys and black guys that used to man these positions are long gone. (with a few not Hall of fame quality exceptions)

Third base. Oddly blacks have never excelled at third. Bill James ranks the best black third baseman at 50 to 60 on the all time list (Bill Madlock). Lots of good white players at third and there will be many eligible for the hall in the future. Pleanty of hispanic players at third too.

Outfield nearly all black and hispanic. Only one white outfielder in the 2004 all star game--Lance Berkman. Some good ones on the way however. But many will be moved to first as they age.

Pitchers. Nearly all white. A few hispanics will be good enough for the hall of fame. Note that in baseball history there have only been about 5 non-white pitchers that could truly be considered great. Gibson, Tiant, Marichal, Paige (I guess?!?). Pedro will be added to the list someday.

You guys have named most of the greatest white players but missed a few. Firstly Pete Rose, who has had his reputation utterly ruined by baseballs ridiculous war against him, after all isn't baseball about hitting? and who has the most hits? Also: Fisk, Eddie Collins, Nap Lajoie, Joe Cronin, Yaztrzemski, Ott.

Doby was probably a better player then Maris because of a longer more productive career, but only because Maris was injured for several years and it really changed him as a player (wrist injury).

I also don't think Gibson was over-rated. He was pretty good and proved it. He is the only non-white pitcher in the top 20-25 of all time.

I don't think any of them will ever get even a sniff of the Hall of Fame, other than possibly Raines.

Most pitchers inducted will continue to be white, but what is disturbing now is that so many of the current power hitters are non-white. That will make for a strong influx in the Hall for quite a while to come. Who are the slam dunk choices of any background over the next few years? Other than Cal Ripken and Mark McGwire there aren't many.
