I was just thinking about how well Ryan Tannehill is doing with the Titans and the way it once again reinforces how mindless and ignorant the football media herd is, including the so-called experts. When Tannehill struggled with the Dolphins, the instant analysis was "he sucks," which quickly became an echo chamber as does everything in the "mainstream" media. Since we were rooting for him here at Caste Football, it was obvious that he was severely handicapped by terrible offensive lines, average to bad receivers and running backs, and poor coaching. And now finally, begrudgingly, Tannehill is being given some credit after playing brilliantly after Marcus Mariota was finally benched. His completion percentage is 71 percent, he is using his athleticism to make plays with his feet, his team all of a sudden has a good offense, and he's been one of the top three QBs in the league since taking over in Week 7.
The same pattern repeats over and over again, with White quarterbacks and White players at all positions. There's not only a kneejerk anti-White bias at work along with laziness and a herd mentality, in the case of quarterbacks it shows how very little most writers and "gurus" actually know about football. They regard the quarterback as the be-all and end-all; if he's struggling they rarely look at other factors, including the talent around him and coaching. Jared Goff was immediately written off as a bust despite his lofty draft status, but as soon as the fossil Jeff Fisher was replaced with Sean McVay, Goff predictably blossomed to the amazement of the slack-jawed herd who had written him off after his rookie season. It's likely why they regard Crissie Collinsworth's Pro Football Focus as a bible whose dubious conclusions are never challenged, as they are too lazy or just plain incapable of doing their own research and evaluation of players and quickly fall in line once a narrative about a player has been established.
