A few nights ago, I watched as Luke Harangody dropped 31 points on a
helpless G-Town team considered one of the best in the nation. Along
those same lines, Tyler Hansbrough of North Carolina has been ripping up
the NCAA for the past three years, freaky celebration dances included.
And while their production in college has been staggering, (and it
really has been unbelievable), how much stock can you actually put in
all the numbers and accolades?

Year after year, NBA general managers fall in love with fundamentally
sound, un-athletic big men and shooters who are more often than not
complete busts in the L. Most surprising, however, is the constant
support these guys have despite playing straight-out awful basketball.
Yet a struggling black player (a la Sean Williams) faces a
career-jeopardizing demotion to the d-league after a promising rookie
season. C'mon people, is Adam Morrison really a better NBA player than a
young shot blocking athlete with tons of upside. I don't think so.

Free Examples Anyone?

- Minnesota gave away the rightful rookie of the year in OJ Mayo for a
dominant college player in Kevin Love who couldn't even out jump Eddie
Murphy..........wearing the nutty professor fat-suit. Seriously?

- After Drafting Mike Dunleavy Jr. 3rd overall in 2002, the Warriors
stuck by him for five years while he single handedly polluted the entire
bay area with his foul play. After finally dumping him off to Indy,
Golden State shot right into the playoffs and a first round upset of
number one seed Dallas.

- Is J.J. Reddick even in the league anymore?

Continued.....
</div>

<div id="more" ="asset-more">

The List Goes On and On: (See Christian Laettner, Jason
Williams, Adam Morrison, Nick Collison, etc., with Hansbrough and
Harangody soon to appear.)

The list of superstars who aren't top notch athletes is even shorter
than Love's vertical. Today's NBA is all about athleticism and just
because a player dominates in college doesn't mean he can produce on the
biggest stage; that should be obvious. It's like a WNBA team trying to
compete with the Lakers; The NCAA plays a totally different game than
the NBA. While Tyler Hansbrough is a good basketball player compared to
most of the world, he can't even touch true NBA talent. And despite this
fact, Psycho-T will be given a much longer leash than his African
American counterparts because he is a white guy, just like most GM's
themselves.

Also, I know that there are a lot of freakish athletes that have failed
at the next level (i.e. The Kandi Man Olowokandi, Tyrus Thomas), but
they face much harsher criticisms than pretty boys like Reddick. Duke's
favorite son never received the kind of harassment that guys like Eddie
Curry, Darius Miles, and Marvin Williams have had to endure. Just look
at Golden State Rookie Anthony Morrow: He wasn't even drafted but has
made more impact in the league already than JJ has in his whole career,
dropping 37 in his first start as a pro.

Sooner or later, the NBA has to realize that true talent isn't just
about putting up great numbers against college players who for the most
part will never log one single minute as a pro. When will they finally
understand that you don't play basketball to appeal to white
mid-america, but as good old Herm once said, "You Play TO WIN the game."
That should be all that matters.

Funny how he points out Kevin Love as a bust....but the truth does not matter to these people. If Loves' success was pointed out to this sad little man he would ignore it or twist it in some way.

Yeah, the poor "black affletes" are still being oppressed and unfairly discriminated against while "athletes" that have zero athletic ability (who all just happen to be White) are praised and have such an easy path into the NBA... If this were even remotely true than there sure as hell would be a LOT more White NBA players and way more Whites given a LEGITIMATE chance to start. All of this self-hating, negro loving morons "busts" for some reason (I'm sure being White has nothing to do with it) haven't been given enough minutes or starts to have a higher PPG avg. The usual excuse is that they lack "defensive" skills...

The article dates 2009, I'll bet he's either eating his words right now or simply oblivious to some of the recent breakthroughs by white players (US and foreign alike). The problem with idiots like him is he thinks white people ONLY exist in America, when it's obvious such people exist in many parts of the world. That's how narrow minded this imbecile is, foreign players like Nowitzki, Gasol, Nash, Bogut, Ginobili, Kirilenko, Udrih, Barea, etc.. are for lack of a better word... WHITE!!!

Add the recent resurgence of US whites like David Lee, Kevin Love, Chris Kaman, Ryan Anderson, JJ Redick, etc.. that's enough proof that white guys (US born especially) can jump and play in the NBA!!!

Guy must be a loser who couldn't snatch himself a white girlfriend, who thinks he's as cool as the BRUDDAS. Judging by his surname "POWERS", I smell a JEW!Edited by: j41181

The little wigger even gives his email at the bottom of the article. I guess it's for all his "boys" and "fans" to "hit him up yo." Whites truly are our worst enemies.

That's funny!

Anyway with the recent play of Kevin Love his whole article becomes an outdated pile of crap.

OJ Mayo is the one who is turning into a huge bust.
Another thing, the Kandi Man wasn't hugely athletic. He was just tall. Not that strong either.
Ok, if white men can't jump then what about D League All-Star Joe Alexander? What about Jan Vesely who has great ups? Or how about even Blake Griffin who is half white? Shouldn't his partial whiteness relegate him to doing power layups or, at best, gangly free throws?
Yeah, wow, there are like 10 or so black players that can really get up and dunk: Shannon Brown (but not in dunk contests), Lebron (ditto), Demarr DeRozan, Josh Smith, Serge Ibaka, Javale McGhee (although not from the free throw line, see YouTube videos on McGhee's blown dunks), Andre Iguodala, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Dwight Howard (this generation's Darryl Dawkins), Nate Robinson (only in dunk contests), and the aformentioned Blake "Half Black, Half Amazing" Griffin. I may be leaving a few off but that about sums it up. The number of great Dunkers today is about the same as it was in the Mid-Eighties. Back then you had Jordan, Dominique, Dr. J., Spud Webb, Gerald Wilkins, Clyde Drexler, Darrell Griffith, Orlando Woolridge, Larry Nance, Kenny "Sky" Walker, Michael Cooper, Byron Scott, and Tom Chambers. Oh yeah, along with Sir Charles and the Mailman. And Manute Bol, who could dunk on his tippy toes. Ewing and Olajuwon could throw down too.

Like what WA33 said... liberal whites are any self-respecting whites' worst enemies. Like GiovaniMarcon, I too usually don't go around calling someone an "idiotic douche bag", unless someone like Mr. PowerLESS comes along.

I personally think shenanigans like this, will not truly WEAKEN unless a white player LEADS an NBA team to the championship, and win finals MVP. Such feat hasn't been done since 1986 (Larry Bird). Ginobili practically lead the Spurs in 2005 but got snubbed, Dirk was robbed in 2006, and Gasol was also snubbed last year.

Or... another white player wins the Slam Dunk contest again.

Here's another article about the NBA and race. The white writer tries to be somewhat controversial but completely ignores the Caste System; in fact at the end he states that blacks are better basketball players than Whites in every aspect of the game. But he notes that attendance is declining and that most White sports fans he talks to say they used to follow the NBA but no longer do. Without BSPN's practically non-stop coverage of the NBA, and corporate sponsors buying up otherwise unwanted tickets, the league would be on life support. The guy's ridiculousname is "Buzz Bissinger" and he's a contributing editor for Vanity Fair, so that says a lot about where he's coming from.

NBA All-Star Game: White Men Can't Root

No one wants to acknowledge why the NBA is losing popularity. Buzz Bissinger on why white fans have trouble getting excited about African-American athletes.

My editor thinks I should write something about professional basketball. The timing is certainly rightâ€"the National Basketball Association's All-Star extravaganza starts today in Los Angeles, culminating in the All-Star game on Sunday night.

The problem is, I don't really know what to say about the NBA other than I almost never watch it anymore.

I am not a basketball junkie and I have no desire to be one. There are maybe three players I would pay to watch. The first is LeBron James of the Miami Heat, because whatever you think, and I think a lot less after his free-agency melodrama despite writing a book with him, he is the best athlete in the world today. The second is Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, and the third is Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The game is in trouble and I don't think there is much dispute about that. Attendance was down last year and is slightly down so far this season. Although basketball is supposed to be a team game, it has become more one-on-one in the NBA than a boxing match. The style has changed and it is a definite turnoff.

But a major problem with the NBA, one that is virtually never spoken about honestly, is the issue of race. I have no hard-core evidence. But based on my past experience in writing about sports, I know that whites ascribe very different characteristics to black athletes than they do white ones. I also make a habit of asking every white sports fan I know whether they watch the NBA. In virtually every instance, they say they once watched the game but no longer do. When I ask them if it has anything to do with the racial composition, they do their best to look indignant. But my guess is they felt very differently about the game when Larry Bird and John Stockton were playing.

Based on various statistics, the percentage of African-American players in the NBA has remained relatively constant over the past decade, fluctuating between 72 and 75 percent. The number of foreign-born players has increased exponentially to about 18 percent. The number of white American players, meanwhile, has decreased from 24.3 percent in the 1980-81 season to roughly 10 percent now.

The one white American player today who comes the closest to being a star is Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is averaging 21 points a game and 15 rebounds. He is on the West roster in the All-Star Game. Do you know anyone who would pay to see Love play?

It boils down to this: Are whites losing interest in a game in which the number of white American players not only continues to dwindle, but no longer features a superstar?

Yes.

My good friend and colleague Stephen Fried, who has had season tickets to the Philadelphia 76ers for a decade and has written about the NBA, says he thinks my argument is more than simply terrible. "While racism is a part of America and American sports and always will be, I really don't think the main problem with the NBA is racial, and I think it's kind of racist and certainly reductionist to say it is,"Â Stephen told me.

In a piece for Parade magazine last year, he wrote that the NBA game needed to be significantly modified to regain its former popularity. In talking with NBA watchers, he came up with six solutions to improve play, including shortening the 24-second clock, increasing the number of fouls for a player before fouling out, and shortening the season.

They are good ideas. But I still believe race is a key deterrent in getting more whites reengaged and increasing interest. It has to do with racial stereotyping. Those stereotypes are wrong. They are malicious. But to act is if they do not exist is disingenuous. When I wrote the book Friday Night Lights about high-school football in Texas, I saw the racial stereotypes of some whites up closeâ€"their firm belief that white athletes admirably succeeded because of hustle and hard work and brains, and black athletes succeeded solely on the basis of pure athletic skill. In other words, white athletes virtuously worked their tails off whereas black athletes simply coasted because they can.

Twenty years later, I think those beliefs still persist nationwide. I think it's why you hear more than you should how players in the NBA don't ever look as if they are trying and yes, one of those who has said that is me. Lack of effort is what whites still assume of black athletes in basketballâ€"they don't have sufficient desire, their body language during timeouts connotes boredom, they are always looking in the stands for the next concubine, they just don't have that blue-collar work ethic that makes great white athletes great. Add in the absence of a single white American superstar (Steve Nash is Canadian), and it alienates whites even more.

The National Football League is majority African American. Since the game is predicated on brute strength that is impossible to fake, there is rarely any grumbling that African-American athletes are not trying hard enough. And the marquee positionâ€"quarterbackâ€"is still the domain of whites. The greatest superstars of the gameâ€"Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and now Aaron Rodgersâ€"are all white, and it gives white fans a greater sense of identification. The stigma of the African-American quarterbackâ€"that he will never have the intelligence to read defenses and make instant adjustments no matter how quick his release or how far he throwsâ€"still very much exists. Which is why Donovan McNabb, the greatest quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history, is inexplicably loathed by thousands of fans for what they perceived as poor judgment and inconsistency--despite leading the Eagles to appearances in one Super Bowl and
five conference championships.

Major League Baseball is only 9 percent African American. The number of Latino players from Central America is skyrocketing, but there are white stars at every position. Once again, the identification factor.

I don't think talking about any of this makes me a racist. I believe it makes me a realist. White fans want white superstars, or in the case of the NBA, at least one white American superstar. Unless the ghosts of Bird and John Havlicek and Jerry West return to the floor, that isn't going to happen. And since it isn't going to happen, the NBA will continue to struggle with an identity crisis that no one wants to publicly acknowledge.

Nor is there any way to change the reality since black players are better, stronger, faster, and have more basketball intelligence than any of their white counterparts. If anything, the percentage of white American players will continue to fall. The league is not going to move to the absurdity of a quota system. So maybe the best thing for whites to do, including myself, is accept the fact there will be no white hope, drop the work-ethic fallacy, and revel in a game that is embedded more than ever with beauty and grace and strength and acrobatics.

The only thing I agree with is that some white americans want to watch white athletes in sports and why wouldn't they? Every other race on the planet does the same thing. That is why you rarely see blacks go to hockey or nascar. People like to root for their own. This is only natural. Blacks are not better athletes. If anything, whites are the greatest athletes in the world as we dominate more sports than any other race. Whites do good in basketball when they get drafted and when they get to play. Kevin Love is just one example of why you need to see more white american all stars in the NBA.

Buzz Bissinger is still suffering from how his hit-piece on West Texas football, and white people in general, was turned into the relatively white-positive 'Friday Night Lights' movie and television series. 'How could it go so wrong? I mean David Aaron Cohen and Peter Berg wrote the screenplay. Betrayed, I've been.'

I view blacks as secondary characters; opponents or support for the white protagonists. If the white side loses, yet was competitive, I'm okay with it. If the white side wins, even with black support, I'm okay with it. But watching 10 blacks, and only 10 blacks, play a game is a matter of indifference.

It's a Zen kind of place to be. Not hatred, or resentment, just a complete lack of concern. One way the NBA can save itself from irrelevancy is to encourage the formation of 'white' teams. Not all-white teams, that would be 'impossible' per the Bissinger world-view, but teams with enough white players to draw the interest of casual sports fans.

Otherwise we'll find out if a major sport can be supported solely by corporate interest and a core of 'ethnic' fans. You know, like the WNBA.

(Ron Jaworski was the Eagle's best QB, having done at least as much with a less talented team.)

Norm Van Brocklin took the Eagles to the 1960 NFL Title with perhaps the weakest supporting cast a QB who won a championship ever had. Many people don't think that counts because it was the pre-Super Bowl era.

You have black forwards like Antawn Jamison, Zach Randolph, Michael Beasley, Danny Fortson (and others, quite a few at that..) that couldn't block a shot to save their lives, but the MSM "fully-supported" them.

But, when it comes to Kevin Love and Luke Harangody, the MSM will say -- "who can they guard?" They'll say it over-and-over again. Admittedly, there are American Whites with more length than them, but they are usually snubbed by the NBA... Coincidence?

And, Michigan State's Draymond Green will likely be on an NBA roster, and while he has blocked some shots in college, I don't foresee him being a shot-blocker in the NBA. He'll probably be compared to Barkley and be "fully-supported" by the MSM.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/randoza01.html

Yep, 190 career blocks for ole Zach! What brilliant ATHLETICISM!!!

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jamisan01.html

One of the most lack-luster "stars" in the whole NBA, SERIOUSLY.. look at the various numbers. Back on point, only 351 career blocks.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/f/fortsda01.html

Why was he drafted so darn high? Only 94 blocks...

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/beaslmi01.html

124 career blocks so far (0.6 BPG average).. he has gotten minutes ever since he stepped foot in the NBA. Frankly, I don't think he'll ever be a good shot-blocker.

I'll note Charles Barkley's career block numbers. He finished well-short of 1,000 (888).

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/barklch01.html

Look at his pathetic 3-point %.. I keenly remember him clanking 3s!!

Raef Lafrentz - who I consider a forward - had 919 blocks. As a rookie, he tore his ACL. True story, I had him on my fantasy basketball team that year..

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/lafrera01.html

A few Euros:

Pau Gasol - another forward - currently has 1,213 blocks!

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gasolpa01.html

AK-47 has 1,369 blocks..

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/kirilan01.html

Vlade - who had the athleticism of a forward - had 1,631 blocks: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/divacvl01.html

Blacks are bigger, better, faster and stronger? REALLY?? And I didn't even scratch the surface..

I still don't get the NBA. At least in the 90's you had plenty of very good white Americans like Chris Mullin, Mark Price, John Stockton, and Jeff Hornacek. Where are these types of players now? The only white American star is Kevin Love at this point.

"Plenty" isn't the way I'd describe it. More like "not as extremely rare."

The NBA has beenvery similar to the NFL demographically. Once overwhelming black dominance was established, the status quo has never been allowed to change. The pathetic state of White American players in the NBA is the offset to the league bringing in Euros. When one of the NBA drafts was close to half White several years ago (thanks mainly to Europeans being selected), the media and various black NBA players complained, and not surprisingly that challenge to the status quo quickly disappeared.

The NFL is the same way except for that annoying quarterback position, which the league, the "scouts," the "draft gurus"and the media have been trying their best to make mostly black for the past 15 years. Outside of quarterbacks, the NFL is pretty much a league without White stars. You have the occasional White LB or other player break through but that's about it. Offensive linemen are not recognized as stars. Alstott, Lynch,Witten and Urlacher are the NFL equivalents of Mullin, Price, Stockton and Hornacek.

Love is the only white American star right now. In fact, Love is the only white American in the top 50 in scoring in the league. Lee would be one as well, but he's playing on a team of two ball hogs guards. He's a 20 and 10 guy whose only averaging 15ppg this season. Unless players like Tyler Hansborough and Gordon Hayward break out, it's going to be a very dark league for years to come.
