Why do they keep this guy around? Think any white player under the same circumstances would still be on the team?

Saban noncommittal about CFL possibility
Associated Press

DAVIE, Fla. -- Serving a one-year NFL suspension, frequent flier Ricky Williams has plenty of time for more world travel, which is fine with Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban.

The Dolphins are devising a training regimen for their enigmatic running back during his enforced hiatus.

"He can work out in India or California or wherever he wants to go, as long as we develop a plan," Saban said Friday. "Working out and doing what we ask him to do has never been an issue."

In all fairness, Ricky was the NFL rushing champion at one point, and I'm sure that Saban and the Dolphins would love to garner even the slightest chance of that recurring...

Sure it's all about winning. Chararcter and class mean nothing. He could have killed and raped a child but if he were available who wouldn't want him on their team? Justice or fairness or morality they mean nothing when the choice is to feel good about your football team winning another game. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING should stand in the way of the HIGH you get as a sports fan when your team WINS!!!!

Ricky taking drugs like marijuana is not the same as him killing someone. This guy isn't Ray Lewis, and he has been suspended repeatedly and is thus paying the penalty for his actions. When you take into account Ricky's past success, Saban's decision, although not necessarily the most admirable of actions (hey druggie, here's a workout plan, get better!) it is not completely non-sensical.

Why the hell doesn't Miami just release him and end the sideshow? Ricky Williams wants OUT of the NFL. He was probably going to be traded to Denver this season before his 'questionable at best' failed drug test. He can't be worth that much as trade bait now,... just let him go that's what everyone wants, right?

Yeah this isn't a Ray Carruth we have on our hands here or another thug NFL player. It is just another victim of pointless drug testing that doesn't work and isn't a deterrent.

Yeah, I wouldn't lump Ricky Williams in with the typical NFL thug. And he actually formed a friendship with Doak Walker and wore #37 at Texas in honor of him. How many players -- black or white -- do you think would've done something like that? I know plenty of white potheads, so it's hardly black-specific behavior.

That said, I do think they're kind of bending over backward for him.

Williams might want out of the NFL, but the Dolphins have a legal judgment against him for breach of contract that requires him to repay his signing bonus of $8.6 mil. He doesn't have much choice but to try to play football no matter how much he'd prefer sitting on a beach and contemplating his navel. Then again the Dolphins probably won't try to collect as that would be "insensitive."

I don't care whether Ricky Williams is a run-of-the-mill pot head, or whether or not he is another Rae Carruth or Ray Lewis.

What I care about is that they F****** bend over backwards for a guy who obviously doesn't want to play football, who was willing to walk out on his team when they were close to making a run, when he was the go to guy, YET THEY WILL NOT GIVE A WHITE RUNNING BACK A SINGLE F****** OPPORTUNITY TO RUN THE F****** BALL!

They kiss Ricky William's black ass but guys like Mike Hass sit around til the 7th F****** round, guys like Luke Staley and Brock Forsey don't get a shred of the chance they give to this lazy ass dope smoking ungrateful pot head.

So if you feel like you got to defend Ricky Williams 'cause smoking pot ain't that bad, be my guest. In the mean time, think about all the great white running backs who would give their left nut to even try out for an NFL team, let alone be given the opportunity to travel the world and smoke pot while in 'training.'

RICKY WILLIAMS CAN KISS MY F***** ASS.

I hope he gets busted somewhere with a suitcase full of 'training supplements.' Edited by: White Shogun

I'm new to this site, so before I comment on the topic, I just thought I'd introduce myself first. Whats up fellas?

Now, on to the subject. I really can't figure out why people are making such a big deal over Williams. Usually people with drug problems are labeled as junkies, but since Mr. Williams is black, he gets special treatment of course, and the red carpet is rolled out before him. Personally, I won't miss him. Although he doesn't act like a "total black thug", his behavior is still unacceptable. Every year the NFL (and college football) continues to ignore White talent, and caters to black morons. And the White players, who are almost always model-citizens are forgotten about. Travis Jervey?: Career Ruined. Brock Forsey?: Career Ruined.Kevin Kasper: Career Ruined. I could give many more examples, but I'll be typing all night.

Look it's not just about the pot. And it's not about the law. It's a contractual agreement a private company (the NFL/Miami Dolphins) has agreed to with Williams.

He knows that as a condition of employment he can't smoke pot. That's the agreement. Millions of dollars for not smoking pot.

The point is he COULD NOT DO IT! And he does not care. And he still expects to play and get paid. What kind of a person does this?

Jax, you're right. Williams does not want to play by the rules. Typical example of black "my way or the highway" attitude.

If he can't comply with the simple rules regarding the contract, then screw him. Let him smoke himself silly in South Eastern Asia somewhere, and let the team find themselves another runner. I hear Rob Konrad's not doing much these days...lol.
