Given the constant and predictable regression of black quarterbacks, now affecting even their anointed one Mahomes, I decided to put a little science behind this pattern. I asked DeepSeek and chatgpt to give me reasons why black quarterbacks would regress much much quicker than white qb’s. And after some prompting to get around the programmed “we are all one race” nonsense I got some interesting stuff with good explanatory power. So let’s jump in-
1- Off-platform throws. I believe this first one really began with Mahomes, but feel free to tell me otherwise. But nonetheless, despite the media,, coaches, and scouts all slobbering over A quarterback’s ability to “change arm slots”, it is very mechanically unsound and creates micro tears in the shoulder. Now when a quarterback is 22 or 23 it is not a big deal, but after five years of consistent micro damage to your shoulder, the ability to make these off platform throws with the same speed and accuracy greatly diminishes. Not to mention the overall damage to your arm.
2- A mutation of the c allele of COL5A1 found in 90% of african ancestry but only 40-50% european ancestry. This mutation leads to stiffer tendons, which can be a good thing, however, the trade-off is you are more prone to chronic inflammation and overuse injuries such as constantly throwing a football.
3- Whites have a far higher production of the G allele in the IL-6 gene which codes for Interleukin-6. This gene is extremely important in reducing inflammation and facilitating recovery. This would obviously be important for an athlete as he ages.
4-HPA axis dysregulation. Due to the play style of mobile quarterbacks (sprinting and evading defenders) there is a sharp increase in Cortisol after the game. This is not a problem for a young healthy player who’s endocrine system can maintain the balance. However, as the player gets older the cortisol (our stress hormone) increases but his free testosterone decreases leading to a lower baseline of testosterone to cortisol levels. This leads to chronic fatigue ie CJ Stroud complaining how old and tired he felt even though he was only 23!
So that’s what I found so far that I felt was worthwhile to share. Please feel free to add anything else or anecdotes of players who fit this description. I will try to update with more information when I can. And remember for this, you can trust the science!
