Really Bad Defenders

mapoo became only the 10th player to get a 1/10 rating in lequipe: here is an article listing the 9 other players to get this rating since 1998:

so 7 out of 10 are black defenders, and one was even rated 1/10 two times in his career

in the french league, the worst defender title is very undecided between mapoo yanga mbiwan and chris mavinga

i already posted about mbiwa but not about mvinga
first he's part of the worst defensive team in the league, troyes, and they are dead last and sure to get relegated
troyes was promoted this season and needed him to bring his experience (played for 5 clubs in the last 6 years, including liverpool, a russian club, a belgian club etc)

for more background about the player, he played for france in the youth national teams, was very highly rated when he was young like many black players
then he got suspended in the french national team for going out before a match and now plays for an african team internationally

Disastrous give-away by 19 year old France defender Zagadou in a crucial title-deciding match between Bayern and Dortmund in 2019. Seems that Dortmund signed this guy because he's a black from the Parisian suburbs, the capital of Black Soccer, and blacks from France are very much in vogue right now. This guy was signed and got playing time in Dortmund after not having made a single top flight appearance, which is strange for the #2 club in Germany.

A defender isn’t judged based on technical and physical ability. One of the most important aspects of an excellent defender is leadership, being able to scream at everyone around, and have immense passion. Varane lacks this. He’s a fantastic defender but he’s not the best itw.

Varane lacks the leadership and character to be the main CB. Ramos has the recklessness but has the character and leadership to compensate for it. Varane, on the other hand does not have these qualities, definitely not at club level
