tre smith plays for Auburn.He was one of the best high school running backs to come out of Florida.He hasn't played that much but when he has,he has been a huge star.
They do have him return kickoffs & punts too.

I think we need to restart some posts on this thread because Hillis and Smith are both going to be stars this year, and it is likely that they will both start and possibly lead their teams in several categories. I hope we can keep frequent updates up about Tre because he has a bright 2 years ahead of him. He is a guy we need to promote, as he will likely be the most visible white RB in the country this year.

I agree with you C.Reb.Tre has it all.Speed,vision and
the ability to cut back on a dime.He will be so much fun
to watch.Especially at a big school like Auburn.Who
would have ever imagined it.He has waited patiently and
will pounce on the defense like a cheetah!This kid used
to run track and really has some wheels on him!!

No doubt he can run. Even Tommy T said he could cut unbelievably fast and reminded him a lot of Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown in his running. I really hope he starts this season.

If Brutal ever comes back,he needs to watch Tre with the
ball.This kid has the speed and moves that he thinks
are not possible from a white running back.Ha.ha.

Tre is going to be all-SEC something htis year mark my words. It wasn't just Ronnie and Carnel getting all those yards they had an excellent o-line back that will pave the way for Tre's 1000+ yard season. Colonel Reb you have got to be excited a white RB right in your own backyard but I guess it makes up for the lack of white players on D(except for my man FS Will Herring) you get down there.

Yeah, it's too bad that I won't be around here to hear more of the press on him this fall. Maybe okra63 can help out with that if he is on here then. I would like to see him play in person, as well as Hillis. Maybe a miracle will happen and I will. Until that happens though, I'll have to watch the possible white RB's of the Mountain West Conference from Edwards Stadium in Provo.

Reading Lindy's magazine, they have quite a bit on Tre concerning this upcoming year. It says he played a significant role in 02 and 03, but must prove he can handle a starting role. Under the offensive scouting report, they have him listed as the starting RB, and say that he is tough, experienced, but limited by size. Might have known that one was coming.

He is listed at 5-10, 200 pounds. I don't think that's too small. There were plenty of quick black backs who were smaller than him, and the only talk you heard about them was that they could slip through a defense easily. They have Auburn picked at 17 to begin the season. Under bad news, its says the backfield goes from one of the nations best, to the bottom half of the SEC. We'll see about that.

By the way, Tre's blocking back will be Jake Slaughter, a white FB from Brentwood Academy in Tennessee.

Under the heading, comeback backs, they have a great picture of Tre running the ball and they say, "he has had his moments, including 126 yards against Alabama in 2002, but it'll be a whole different ballgame as he becomes the feature back." I think Tre will do great if he stays healthy. That's all I have on Tre for now. Edited by: Colonel_Reb

Tre will dop just fine and he's only a junior so he'll put on about 10 more pounds before his colliegiate career is over. Tre is the player I'm most excited about for this upcoming season. So I'll actually be watching Auburn games this year instead of just strickly Ohio St games.

From the latest reports I read,Smith is still listed as
the starter with Irons a close 2nd.I really want Tre to
have a huge year.He will be a blast to watch run the ball.

Thanks for the info whitelightning. That was a good article. Sounds as if Tre has a lot of respect from his team-mates at Auburn. I applaud Tommy T. for giving Tre a chance to fulfill his dream. He must have a lot of faith in Tre, but then again, Tub used to be known as the "Mississippi Riverboat Gambler." I think Tub will win this bet with Tre in his hand of cards no matter what happens. Go Tre!

I'll be watching Auburn alot this year. Well actually the most I can, as up here in Ohio we don't get many Auburn games unless its on CBS. I'm pullin for ya Tre.

I fully expect Tre Smith to have a big year.He showed in his freshman year in a Bowl game that he could play at the highest level by rushing for 126 yards against a Alabama defense that was one of the top in the nation.He is so fast and shifty.Smith knows how to make people fall out of their shoes trying to tackle him.I think his biggest keys will be to get 15-20 touches a game,stay healthy,and hopefully not burn out later in the season.He will also be returning kicks and punts.It might be too much of a load.If anything,
they should cut back some of the return duties so he can be a star at the tailback position.Maybe if he can have a huge year,next season he could be hyped for the Heisman.

Auburn has had two Heisman winners, Pat Sullivan in 1971 and Bo Jackson in 1985. Tennessee has never had a player win the Heisman Trophy. Oddly, the Vols have had four second place finishers. They are Hank Lauricella in 1951, Johnny Majors in 1956, Heath Shuler in 1993, and Peyton Manning in 1997. No other school has so many who were second. When Majors was second to Paul Hornung, it was the closest race up to that time.

That is some interesting info about the Vols, historian. I think I'll use that to win a beer down at the Adobe House Tavern. Frankly, Majors deserved the Heisman over Hornung.

Tre had a descent game for his 2nd start ever.He had 14 carries for 52 yards but needs more carries.Hopefully next week they will pound it out on the ground more.He has that game breaker speed where at any time,he can score a td.Edited by: white lightning

Tre Smith was thrown for several big losses, but still managed to have a respectable game. He just missed breaking a long run on a screen pass. He is on the small side. We'll have to see if he can run up big yardage over a season. In the Georgia Tech game, Auburn fell behind early and the QB had a poor game. Hopefully, Auburn gets the lead in the nextseveral games and Tre Smith can have a lot of carries. That's what it takes for a RB to make All-American.

I saw that Smith had only five carries for seven yards today. Three other tailbacks had more carries. Should we be suprised? I guess Smith is now the fourth string tailback. Whiteplayers just aren't going to ever be given the opportunity to be a feature back at the major schools. I know some on this site held out hope for Smith, but he is just another victim of the system.

I wrote this in the Week One thread in the College Football section a week ago:

"Even after one game Tre Smith's position is probably in danger. The run blocking by the almost all black offensive line was terrible. Auburn started a completely black team except for Smith, the quarterback, the center, and a safety. Smith will most likely continue to share carries and then be replaced by a black running back. The excuse will be that he's not big enough to handle the load."

I hate to be right about something like this, but it's all so predictable.
