this kid is up for mr. football for state of ohio plays for avon lake division 2 has 40 tds and over 2000 yards rushing this year is 5-11 195lbs. Bobby Doyle, Avon Lake, 5-10, 195, senior, RB: As tough and competitive a running back as you will find, Doyle has helped the defending Division II state champions to a 12-0 record and an appearance in tonight's 7:30 p.m. Region 6 championship game against Tiffin Columbian at Fremont Ross' Harmon Stadium. Doyle crossed the goal line two more times in last weekend's 30-7 regional semifinal victory over Amherst and now has 37 touchdowns on the season to go along with his 2,200-plus rushing yards.


Last night he had 29 carries for 166 and 2 tds

Keep us posted on anything about him.I hope a college gives him the chance to stay at the rb position.Too many schools force them to change to another "white" position.

He had 223 yards rushing and 2 more tds last night now has 41 tds this season his team won again and will now play in the div II state championship game.

was named div 2 player of the year and lost the mr. football award to a black running back, his team also lost in the state championship game but he put on a nice showing 168 yards rushing and 1 td.Edited by: cxt7

Article in local paper about doyle being to small and slow and he still has not been recruited to a college also he is as good as any black running back in the nation but will end up in div 2 or 3.

If you are at all familiar with Avon Lake's formula for success in building a winning football tradition, you're already aware that good things come to those who wait.

Senior tailback Bobby Doyle is a perfect example - and his success in the fall earned him Lorain County Offensive Player of the Year honors from The Plain Dealer for his many accomplishments.

Doyle, who bided his time behind Jon Schroeder during his sophomore and junior years, had a breakout year this season. He broke Schroeder's single-season rushing record of 2,598 yards by rushing for 2,774 yards, along with setting a new standard for touchdowns in a season with 42.

However, if you take a glance at The Plain Dealer's preseason prognosis, you won't see Doyle's name mentioned as one of the Shoremen players to watch.

"They told me when I was a freshman that I was too small and too slow to ever be a running back," Doyle recalled. "I weighed 120 pounds, and there were girls bigger than me. Lots of them."

So Doyle hit the weight room. And with the help of a nice growth spurt, Doyle, now 5-11, tipped the scale at 195 pounds. Between his freshman year and now, Doyle also lifted the "too slow" tag. He was the Southwestern Conference champion in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes in track last spring.

In his first appearance as a starter, Doyle rushed for 224 yards and four touchdowns, adding a fifth TD on a 33-yard reception from quarterback Mike Tift.

"Before I made my official debut I definitely felt pressure to succeed," Doyle said. "With the tradition of Avon Lake always having great tailbacks, I felt a definite need to get off to a strong start. Then, once the game ended [with Avon Lake defeating Mansfield, 42-13] the pressure had been lifted, and I could get down to work."

Doyle earned Division II Offensive Player of the Year honors from the Associated Press, while leading the defending state champions to the state title game, where Avon Lake dropped a 42-21 decision to Columbus Brookhaven.

"They had some unbelievable athletes," said Doyle. "With our work ethic, we'll work harder than any team in the state, but when it came down to athletic talent, they had the edge."

Anyone know what happened to CB prospect Brian Jones who played at Avon Lake? He had 4.4 speed and was highly touted a few years ago but lost site of him. Another Avon Lake player with 4.4 speed is WR Trey Stross signed io Iowa I believe.

Doyle was named the ohio offensive player of the year by the cleveland TD club, I also found out that 2 division 3 schools have made offers to him. what a joke.

Doyle signed today with Mercyhurst they are a division 2 school in erie pa.

I am happy that Doyle will go to college but very disappointed that being offensive player of the year in Ohio he was not offered a scholarship from some of the schools there-if not Ohio State-what about Kent State,Akron U,Ohio U,Bowling Green,Toledo,Miami of Ohio,Cincinnati or smaller schools like Mt.Union.

Unfortunately Trey Stross is behind 3 BLACK freshmen on the Iowa depth chart. Stross is a sophmore which means.... another nonblack/white prospect is destined for special teams glory. i thought Iowa was white friendly. does anyone know there WR situation. is Stross not good enough to play or is he a victim of the caste system?
