All the anylists and NFL "experts" are saying that Wes Welker will be shut down now without Moss to take away all the attention that should go to him. They then show a clip to prove their point.....only problem is that BOTH Moss AND Welker are double teamed. The expert then sheepishly says something like "eh, well also getting double teamed is Welker." The great racist Deion Sanders completely dismisses Welker saying that all his success is due to Moss. He shows his list of the top 10 recievers today and Welker is no where on it. Neither is Austin Collie, though fellow 2nd year man Desean Jackson is, and despite the fact that Collie has been incredible.

I hope Welker posts even bigger numbers now to prove them all wrong (for the zillionth time in his career)

If teams start devoting an extra man to Welker in coverage on a regular basis, and someone else emerges as Brady's all-everything, I'm sure Sanders will credit their success solely to the fact that Wes attracts double coverage. Ya think?

Btw, welcome to CF

Hahaha. No, Sanders will say that Wes is lucky that another "playmaker" has emerged (something Welker clearly isn't. Welker "moves the chains"). Sanders also contradicted himself by saying that the Patriots' SB chances are shot and they know it after trading Moss, but then when pressed saying that Moss' addition to the Vikes doesn't guarantee them success. What?

Thanks for the welcome. I was coming here nearly every day since I found out and reading what ppl posted during the games made me join.I always felt something was wrong in football, and this site helps prove it.

Welcome to CF, Woody! I'm glad Moss is gone. I think it will help Wes Welker, Danny Woodhead, Julian Edelman, and Rob Gronkowski.

Welker will get open even if he's double teamed and if you DT the slot WR every play than the outside WR's will make huge plays. Tate has size, speed and skills and we all know what Edleman is capable of along with Gronkowski and Hernandez. Moss is either washed up or gave up because he'e done very little this year, especially for the hype he's getting for being so great. It's NO longer 1999 0r 2007 MSM...

Moss began to decline back in 2004. He had 49 catches for 767 yards that year then went to Oakland in a "good riddance" trade that both Moss and the Vikings wanted done. In '05 he barely went over 1,000 yards (1,005) then dropped to 553 yards on an awful Raiders team the next year when he mailed it in the entire season. In '07Moss had the record setting year in his first season with the Patriots when New England had the most prolific offense in league history, then dropped to 1,008 yards in '08 before bouncing back with a nice year in '09, before dropping big time again this year with just 9 receptions in a quarter of a season.

So that makes just two big years out of the last six and a quarter seasons. The pundits like to say that Wes Welker has been the beneficiary of the prolific New England offense, but it's more accurate to say that it benefitted Moss more, as he could just run down the field like he did in his early years with the Vikingswith Brady getting great protection and then catch his well-thrown bombs. How much of his "trick" he can now duplicate with the Vikings at the age of 33-- who don't have a Welker and whose o-line isn't nearly as good as New England's -- remains to be seen.Edited by: Don Wassall

I'm not saying that Moss' presence didn't help the offense....but in no more a way then did Brady, Mankins, Light, Volmer, Edelman.....I could go on. To say that one player "made" the offense or other players (and not even a QB, none the less) is brash and foolish, regardless. Welker will just never get the credit he deserves. It's fun to watch him and compare him to Moss.
Moss: Sprint sprint sprint (hope thatprotection will hold up and Brady can deliver a bomb)
Welker: Juke, jive, fight off LBs and take a hit over the middle (or turn up field and make some cuts and keep going)
You tell me who is the better athlete. Welker kicked a 53yd field goal, played safety, RB, returns punts and kicks, and was a great soccer player in high school. I don't think Moss could do most of that.

First of all, I think the NFL needs to fire these racist affirmative action projects such as Deion Sanders. You can see pure racism coming out of this guys mouth every time he speaks.

Moss is a scumbag. The guy admitted himself that he takes plays off and he's no model citizen off the field either. Anywhere this magic negro plays the DWF's seem to adore him despite his behavior. He's talented and I'll admit that. He needs to shut his mouth and play football.

Pats fan here =)

I wasn't excited to see Moss go, and the trade took me by surprise though all the talk show guys I listen to every day (D&H and the Big Show) claim they weren't surprised even though they never mentioned it coming - but that is another thing.

Welker is going to now fail? That is what he has been told his entire career. Maybe I'm wrong but putting a corner and a safety on a guy like Moss is easier than putting a corner and safety on a guy like Welker who is not a deep threat but a slot receiver - am I wrong?

Putting two guys in coverage on a guy that runs 8 - 12 yard routes is a difficult thing to do, no?

And if they do decide this is the best thing to do, doesn't this leave the deep threats for the Pats in one on one coverage? Doesn't it then become incumbant upon them to perform in 1 on 1 coverage? I don't want to hear "Welker is being double coveraged he was never any good without Moss" when the deep threat is 1 on 1 and can't catch a deep ball because that doesn't make sense - if the black deep threat was good then Welker would be one on one, not him.

On a side note - what is with all the great white offenses in Indy and New England being hamstrung by their nearly 100% black defenses? Great job Ninkovich last Monday to produce two interceptions in the first half to keep the game in reach but seriously, still no respect? I'm still hearing people call up sports radio worrying about Danny Woodhead being hit by Ray Lewis.

Oh yeah and if Welker said that there is a sign in the locker room "If you don't want to be here, you don't have to be here" then why hasn't Logan Mankins been traded? WTF is up with that?

We need Wes to have a big season this year, but we shouldn't be too upset if his numbers drop (IF they do). The bottom line is that all great players benefit from talent around them, including a guy like Moss who benefits from Welker causing the safeties to watch the middle of the field so he can go deep. Wes did benefit (somewhat) from having Moss as the deep threat, but obviously the media is making way too big of a deal out of it. If we can get Edelman to step up, and Woodhead out of the backfield as a threat to score every play, then Wes will be able to keep destroying defenses. Plus, Hernandez is a pretty good player at tightend in the mold of Dallas Clark who can hopefully open up things for the Pats. I respect Moss as a player but Welker and the Pats will be just fine without him.

Yet another hit piece on Welker.I hope he reads this for additional motivation.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/484401-can-wes-welker-have-the-same-impact-without-randy-moss

Randy Moss was traded today by the New England Patriots. This was a very bold move by Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick.

Now the Patriots have to rely on Wes Welker to be their No. 1 receiver. Welker benefited from playing with Moss. Not taking anything away from Welker, but playing in the slot going against nickle corners and linebackers was a lot easier than taking on triple coverage as Moss did.

Opposing teams would roll their coverages and double team Moss and let Welker work underneath in the slot. Welker is no game breaker by any means, but he is a receiver that moves the chains. Now that Moss is out of the fold Welker will be suffocated by defenses every Sunday.

It will be hard to use Welker in the same role by having him in the slot. Welker has had consecutive 100 catch seasons, but that will be coming to abrupt end with the loss of Moss.

The Patriots will struggle a lot on the offensive end. The Pats lack a strong running game and now they are thin at the wide receiver position. Rookie Tight Ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski have bright futures ahead of them, but they will not free up Welker as Moss did. Tom Brady will go back to his old philosophy of passing the ball to the open man, but Welker will be blanketed by the opposing teams top cornerback. (snip)

Welker is a stud athlete & Moss being shipped back to the Vikes won't curtail his success. He has the 2nd best QB in the NFL passing to him. The ex-afrolete Sanders is jealous because he couldn't have covered speedy Wes back in his (Peon Deion) playing days. Sanders is a White hating functioning retard who should've rightfully been digging ditches for a living, had it not been for his God given talent. He was grossly overrated as a player & has no business being a "commentator" on anything...given his butchery of the King's English & sub-par IQ.

Sanders is a turd who doesn't really give ANY credit to white players except for the accepted QB position. He ignores guys like Woodhead and Hillis. He belongs at the night club, not on the NFL channel. As for Welker, nobody can cover him, NOBODY. Yes, teams can try and double him, but it probably won't work. I have every confidence (and the Pats do too) that Welker will still be productive. Without him, they went nowhere in the playoffs. Where were you in the playoffs last year, Randy? The Pats will do just fine without another whiny, selfish black WR. I bet someone will step up and play well in place of Randy the Whiner. Hopefully, Edelman will get in there and become a big star. Why not? He'll probably make the plays and not whine after the game about how he's not getting a decent contract, blah, blah, blah. I'm glad the Pats got rid of Moss.

It will be hard to use Welker in the same role by having him in the slot. Welker has had consecutive 100 catch seasons, but that will be coming to abrupt end with the loss of Moss.

What they failed to mention is not only did Welker have consecutive 100 catch seasons - he's had 3 in a row which puts him in good companyand in that time no player in the NFL has had as many receptions as Welker even though he has missed playing time (346 receptions from 2007 - 2009). But still no respect. Do they actually think that the corners and safeties that were doubling Moss are now going to be doubling Welker in the slot? Get real. If they do then that meansTate or Hernandez should have an easier time getting open.

And "Moving the chains", that's how you keep a drive alive which last time I checked was pretty important to an offense.

I was listening to D&H during lunch last week and a what sounded like a white guy called up saying he couldn't believe they got rid of Moss and they couldn't rely on a short, small, white guy for their passing game. Neither Dale nor Holly said boo.

Folks sure are dumbed down these days. Wes Welk is the best damn WR in the NFL. Just wait. Hell have another solid year, and the retarded media talkin heads will still neglect to respect him the way he should be respected. If he was a black guy hed be one of the biggest success stories of all time. I mean, its just disgusting the way white players are treated. I love this trade because the Vikings and the Pats are my two favorite teams. Allthough I wish the Vikings wouldve got Matt Jones instead.

Great insight, Patrick. Yeah, you would think these experts would be able to process their thoughts in a logical manner. As you said, it's very hard to double someone in the slot, and if they do, the burden will then be on the Moss heir-apparent, Tate. But no mention of that.
