Burress to the Eagles?

Coming off a two-year prison term,
Plaxico Burress was a valuable member of the
New York Jets last season, racking up 612 yards and eight touchdowns.
And on Tuesday, Burress made it clear that he would like to play for the
Philadelphia Eagles next season.
Burress told Philadelphia's 97.5 The Fanatic, via the
New York Post, “Nothing else would make me happier. Obviously, coming to Philadelphia and instituting myself to the offense it just adds a unique dynamic to what’s already in place.â€
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Saturday that the Eagles were listening to offers for DeSean Jackson, who they are expected to franchise before the March 5 deadline.
In that case, Burress could help fill a hole in the receiving corps. Even if Jackson stays with the Eagles,
Burress offers them a solid No. 3 receiver, which would be the better role for him.
There are obviously going to be questions about Burress' character. But I think he held up pretty well in 2011, especially given his teammates, including Santonio Holmes, were blasting the Jets organization left and right.
Burress also said he feels a connection to
Michael Vick, who is also from Virginia and spent time in prison for his part in a dog-fighting operation.
Burress noted, via the
Post:
“Being able to play together, coming from what we’ve come from, I just think would be a special deal,†Burress said. “I really believe he can bring a championship to Philadelphia and I would love to be a part of it.â€
Obviously, the Eagles signing Burress has a lot to do with how much money he wants. The Jets paid him a little over $3 million last season on a one-year deal.
But I don't see Burress being too expensive. He knows he's on his last legs, and if he truly wants to land with the Eagles, I'd think he'd give the team somewhat of a discount.
It's natural for the Eagles to look at their situation with Jackson and be wary of another receiver with character concerns.
But Burress wasn't a distraction last year with the Jets, and he's proven he can still be a productive player in the
NFL.
The Eagles need another receiver, and Burress fits the mold.
