This game is a blast. I started playing a few months ago and have to play at least once a week. Scores of over the hill people (seniors and near-seniors), such as I, are taking it up. Having a tennis background helps but certainly not a requirement. Try it, if you get a chance.

Can't believe it's been almost six years since I've made this thread. More and more people are playing pickleball every day. That's not to say, pickleball hasn't been hardcore for quite a few for some time. It's a whole lifestyle for some of us. I play several times a week now and do tournaments across three states. Senior division, of course. You can bang the ball in this sport, but beware you pay a heavy price if you're not good at it. The pro circuit is well established, too. Here is video of the pros:

I've played tennis on and off since I was a teenager along with many other sports. I love to play and watch tennis. I also have played raquet ball and hand ball. I think
I need to give this game a try. It looks like so much fun. I will never give up tennis but I can still enjoy pickle ball. Great video. Man are these pros good!

WL, with your background, the game will be much easier for you to pick up. I have a tennis background which is the reason I was attracted to the sport. I know people who have played racquetball and who have taken up the game. It's addicting for sure. For anyone who is interested in playing, you can go to https://www.places2play.org/ and search for locations (clubs or facilities) that have pickleball. I live in an area where it is mostly free to play. People who have never played a sport with a racquet or paddle develop their ball contact skills much quicker than in tennis. It is not as daunting.

I drive by a tennis court that has been converted to pickle ball and it is always packed with people. I’m going to have to give it try, looks like a lot of fun.

Celebrity pickleball with Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, John Isner, Dirk Nowitzki, and Tony Romo. I was very impressed with Jordan and Scottie. They had more game than I would have expected. I'm linking to the replay with it starting at the final game with Jordan and Scottie taking on John and Dirk. Other matches included the pros matched up with them.

I heard Kevin Durant bought a team as well. I understand the pickle ball craze as an enjoyable recreational activity for all ages and physical abilities. However, I don’t see it as a much of a spectator sport. Kind of like cornhole, it will be relegated to ESPN 8.

I don't disagree that pickleball may lack appeal as for as a spectator event. I think maybe that's why some organizers are into the team concept. People like to root for something they have an interest in. It may never draw a significant fan base as for as the casual spectator, we'll see tho. I played in a round robin tournament last night with forty participants. All were beside themselves with joy. Too much fun.

I have mixed emotions concerning the "Pickleball Slam." Four tennis legends, McEnroe, Agassi, Roderick, and Chang compete for a million dollars this weekend in the event.. It'll take place at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida and televised on ESPN. Pickleball does not need tennis legends to promote it. Its growth is exponential. McEnroe, the curmudgeon that he, is not high on pickleball. You can see here . I can understand his point of view. Tennis is a much more difficult sport in pretty much all aspects. And I still remain a huge fan of tennis and consider professionals top athletes in the world. Pickleball is my old man's activity now, though.

I've played tennis as well as many other sports on and off since I was a kid. Still haven't tried pickleball yet but it's on my list of
new things to try in 2023. Need to just do it sometime this spring as I know it will be fun. I still love tennis and this sport is so similar
but better for older people who don't move as good as they used to. I'm still in good shape but can't run like when i was 20 to 30 but
then again who can. I will continue to lift weights, play basketball, tennis, etc. but am ready to try this. Will let you guys know when I do.

This was fun. I was fortunate enough to see two all-time great athletes go against each other live. It was a good-natured charity event. McEnroe against Brees.

Tonight on espn, pickleball Slam 2 will take place. It features McEnroe, Agassi, Sharapova, and Steffi Graf. Now these matches are not the caliber as the top professional pickleball players. As a matter of fact, several pro tennis players have signed on for the PPA tour this year. Jack Sock, Sam Querry, Genie Bouchard, DEI signee Donald Young, and others are making the move. Jack Sock has the best potential to have an impact. Otherwise, nothing notable has occurred from these tennis pros. There are some nuances in pickleball that tennis players have to adapt to. Some will, some won't. The one person I would love to see play PB is none other than the great Roger Federer. I will watch tonight for entertain.
