Pick One: 2011 Undrafted Rookie Free Agents

If you could pick only one of the 2011 undrafted rookie free agents to add to your team, who would it be?

I would take Jake Sharp - Kansas RB. Of course he is from 2010, but no matter, he's still available and ignored, even though he is probably better than 75% of the backs currently on NFL rosters.

Any predictions on which team will sign Jeff Maehl? I haven’t a clue, except to say the Saints will NOT be interested.

Dane Sanzenbacher. Does anyone remember the time the leading receiver for Ohio State went undrafted? 55 catches, 948 yards and 11 TDs, including 4 TDs in one game which tied an OSU record, and voted 2010 team MVP.

Despite his small stature, Sanzenbacher would seem to be a perfect fit in the NFL’s new micro-trend towards small, quick receivers with good hands. What started with Wes Welker in New England has expanded across the league with slot receivers like Austin Collie and Anthony Gonzalez in Indianapolis and Jordan Shipley in Cincinnati.


The Patriots have even furthered the cause of undersized, white receivers in the NFL with emergence of 5-10 Julian Edelman and 5-9 Danny Woodhead last season. Sanzenbacher needs to add muscle and he has some history with concussion problems, which probably attributed to his going undrafted, but if those other guys can find a home in the NFL, there is no reason he can’t.

Why would the Bears even sign Sanzenbacher?

They've had talented white receivers in the past but instead played Bernard Berrian (who can't catch a cold) and Mushin Muhammad (who couldn't get separation from a grandmother after he stole her purse).

Who knows, maybe the "micro-trend" is catching on and Sanzenbacher will be used the same way Welker or Shipley is. Here's to hoping at least!
