Paul Skenes

Would be nice to see Pittsburgh supply him with some talent on offense before he gets plucked by one of the coastal powers.

The Pirates have the worst owner in pro sports. He'll either trade Skenes early on in his career, or closer to when he can become a free agent. His m.o. is to have one of the lowest payrolls and make a nice profit from attracting 1.5 million or so fans to watch a team that's terrible year in and year out with very few exceptions. Players that develop are traded before they can make the big bucks, for prospects and the endless cycle of permanent "rebuilding" begins anew. The Buccos have had something like 3 winning seasons since Bob Nutting bought the team. It's been 33 years since the Pirates won a division title, 46 years since their last World Series win, and those streaks will continue as long as Nutting owns the team.

Yikes. Pittsburgh baseball fans are long overdue for some success. Looks like it won’t happen until one of the worst owners in any sport, kicks the bucket lol.

I’m a Milwaukee fan and they haven’t won much either in terms of World Series, though they have been competitive last 10-15yrs with multiple playoff appearances.

Skenes pitched 6 innings tonight in Boston, fanned 6, gave up 1 earned run and got the win to move his record to 9-9 for the season. The win total isn't quite as paltry as earlier in the season but is still not what it would be if baseball allowed starting pitchers to go a minimum of 7 innings when they're pitching well.

It's taken 28 starts for Skenes to get those 9 wins despite an ERA of 2.05 and a WHIP of 0.95. His career numbers are almost identical -- 2.01 and 0.95. He almost always has a high quality start. He's struck out 357 batters in exactly 300 career innings. Despite the low win total I'd like to see him win the Cy Young Award in the NL.

Always looking for Skenes in the MLB Box Scoring. Great to see him win in Boston. There were a couple of other story lines as well. Boston rookie pitcher 6'6 250lb. Payton Tolle out of TCU pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 ER. while striking out 8! Also, Boston rookie Roman Anthony continues to play well. He was 2-4 with a HR. His homerun came off of Skenes. Pretty impressive for a rookie.
