Well, most of the muckety mucks have the Patriots going down in flames. These fellows analyze and watch football for a living, so they should know what they are talking about. Right?I checked ESPN to see what their resident geniuses had to say about the San Diego-New England game. Guess what? They thought the Pats would get smoked. So much for them. I think sub - consciously the media would love to see Smith and Dungy face off in the Big Bash, so I have to enter their biases into the equation.
We cannot foresee the future, but often past performance is a good indication of what is to come. Manning, Dungy and the Colts have a track record of losing the big games. Brady, Belichick and the Patriots have an excellent history of racking up W's against all odds. How did they beat the Chargers? Yes, the Dolts made errors, but the Pats took advantage of them.
I don't think the Colts defensive surge over the last two games is sustainable. The Chiefs had been sputtering on offense and had a lousy coach and game plan. The Ravens are one dimensional and held Manning to five field goals. If Lewis didn't lay his fingers on a couple of Peyton's passes, he would have had two more INT's. Fortunately McNair threwa huge pick at the goal line that was a killer.
The pressure may be too much for Manning and Harrison. Brady may be off from time to time, but he has ice-water in his veins.Dungy is no match for Belichick. The noise in the dome could be a factor, but the Pats handled it well at Minnesota where the noise levels are deafening.
Belichick may have a game plan designedthat will cause everyone to shake their heads. His tight-ends are pretty big and may be too much of a handful even for the hard hitting Sanders who is on the small side. The Pats can take it to them on the ground.
I'm picking the -Evil Empire- to take one away from the Colts. I will boldly add that Vinatieri won't be a factor. Any thoughts? Am I nuts? Let er rip.
