Pete Prisco of CBS Sportsline.com rates the most over-rated and under-rated player on all 32 NFL teams. Turns out that on just 4 teams is the most under-rated player white, while on 10 teams the most over-rated player is white. Sure, we all know white players get way more publicity than they deserve in the NFL.
Here are some of Prisco's comments on "over-rated" white players:
Quarterback Drew Brees had a few good seasons in San Diego, but he's a system passer who lacks a big arm. And he's coming off shoulder surgery. The Saints paid way too much to get him.
Tight end Jeremy Shockey is a good player, but he should be a great one. He needs more focus. If that happens, watch out. Until then, he's not as good as many think.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is a good player, but you'd think by winning the Super Bowl he's a great one. He still has a ways to go to get to that level. He needs to do a better job of reading the entire field.
Safety Adam Archuleta is a big hitter who has made some big plays, but he is a liability in coverage and isn't worth the money the 'Skins paid him.
Fullback Mike Alstott is coming to the end of his career, but he's been overrated his entire career.
[Yeah, how dare so much as a single white man be allowed to carry the ball a few times in the past 20 years. How couldAlstott not be over-rated!]
