Espn came out with a documentary this week called "Once Brothers" about Vlade Divac, Dragen Petrovic and the Yugoslav national team from the late 1980s to early 1990s.....its well worth the hour and a half to watch it. Here's a link to an article and a the trailer for the show

Yes, he did. He was an extremely talented player and averaged 20 plus ppg his final two years in the league. Petrovic was easily one of the best shooters of all time. No doubt in my mind he would have been a HOF guy had he not died in a horrible car accident.

I watched the documentary and it was very well done. I was not too familiar with Petrovic or his game. He was an ultra-competitive assasin on the court. When he finally got a chance in the NBA, he put up great numbers. His two seasons as a starter, he averaged over 20 pts per game while shooting ptg. .508 and .518; and .444 and .449 from 3 point range. Great stuff and athleticism from a 6'5" shooting guard.

Excellent documentary. Yes, Petrovic was considered the best player in Europe, often scoring 50 or 60 pts a game and once he got his chance in the NBA (after being traded from Portland to NJ.) he started to dominate here as well. In the doc, they show clips of Kenny Andersaon recalling how Drazen put 40 pts up on Jordan and kept screaming for the ball saying "he can't guard me."

Pretty sad how Petrovic just wrote off Divac - unless the documentary was misleading. Speaks volumes about nationalistic pride and how little anything else means if it is true.

Petrovic was also planning to LEAVE THE NBA after the 1992-93 season. He had plans to play pro-ball back in Europe.

He died in car accident in Germany, he was with his then-girlfriend who some how survived.

one of my earliest memories of basketball from when i was a wee lad was seeing Drazen talk trash to Jordan ... and then go and do him. it was awesome!

if not for his too-soon death, he would have been one of the greatest players to ever lace 'em up and light 'em up on the hardwood. he was a PHENOMENAL talent.
