Andrey Silnov of Russia has won the men's high jump at the Beijing Olympics.

Silnov cleared 2.34 meters without a miss Tuesday to secure the gold, then failed three times at 2.42.

Britain picked up silver when Germaine MASON -- who competed for Jamaica until 2006 and still holds the national record in the Caribbean nation -- cleared 2.34.

Former world indoor champion Yaroslav RYBAKOV got bronze for Russia at the same height, adding to his silvers at the 2001, 2005 and 2007 world championships.

Defending champion Stefan Holm of Sweden was fourth at 2.32 after missing attempts at two greater heights.

Silnov, the 2006 European champion, had a season-leading 2.38 at the London Grand Prix on July 25.
white athletes dominated the competition in Beijing. 9 of the 12 finalists were white, including the Gold and Bronze medalists and 8 of the top 10.

In a sea of horrible news this is important. Hoping for a sweep but nabbing gold is always a relief.

Whites have been the best at this event for some time. Now we just need a 6'5 guy who does coke and admits using PEDs to get a new world record (sarcasm).
