Obese Black Player Watch

Since the main page has an article expressing the dire situation of so many obese players in the NFL-obviously mainly blacks-I thought this would be a good time to reconnect with an obese one in MLB, C.C. Sabathia.

He is 1-3 with a 4.85 ERA through 6 starts with the Yankees.

He is just a few Ho-Hos away from splitting the seams of his uniform, but somehow the Yankees still delude themselves into believing he will be a dominant force on the mound through the 2015 season, earning his $161 million, and leading them to the World Series annually.

He'll be 29 in July. You can be almost guaranteed that a guy with his slothful habits will go downhill quickly from age 30.

How many fat black players have had much endurance in the majors? Tony Gwynn and just about nobody else. Bill Madlock won 4 batting titles but was 32 the last time he hit over .300. Kirby Puckett faded quickly (but had some kind of vision problem). The only pitcher I can think of is Luis Tiant, who was technically "hispanic"and who according to Baseball Reference was 5'11" and 190 -- not all that heavy.

Willie Stargell seemed to be around forever. I remember the annoucers always gushing over what a fatherly figure he was to the young players and how much stability he brought to the clubhouse. I'm glad I wasn't racially aware during the 1979 World Series because no doubt I would have upchucked at least once a game. And it was a seven game series. Edited by: GWTJ

Stargell had good endurance, but he only hit more than 28 HRs once after turning 33 (32 in the '79 championship year), and never went over 100 RBIs. For a player whose power was pretty much his only asset, that's not too impressive. And it was in those later years when his weight went up as he was fairly lean as a young player, although always very slow on the bases and in the field.


Stargell was indeed built up intoa father figure, a Magical Negro witha kind heartwho was thesoul of the Pirates. The Pittsburgh media did a good job of covering up how unfriendly and mean Stargell could often be. Many adoring young kids and middle-aged DWFs were startled to find out from first-hand experience that "Pops" was a snarling curmudgeon when they approached him.

David Ortiz appears to be the latest obese black player whose career is quickly winding down. Just 33 years old (still close to what are prime years for white players), Ortiz dropped to 35 home runs in '07 (after three straight seasons in the 40s and 50s), then to just 23 homers last year, and zero through nearly the first quarter of the 2009 season.

Are there any obese white players presently in the majors?I watched the Giants-Mets today andthe Giants featured back to back black lardasses batting third and fourth -- Sandoval and Molina. The announcers(the caste triumverate of Jon Miller

, Joe Morgan

and Steve Phillips

) were raving about Sandoval's smile and personality, saying how he had single-handedly improved the spirits of the Giants organization and that everyone "loved him."

I really can't think of any this season. There are some big guys, especially relievers, like Jonathan Broxton, J.J. Putz, and Matt Capps.

Matt Stairs and Nick Johnson look like they could retire to jobs at a local fire department, though.

There really are a lot of lardbutt blacks and Hispanics in the game.

The Giants are really a terrible team to watch. They have some fantastic pitching but have the most bland offense I can remember in my almost 20 years of watching baseball. Of course the Giants only start 1 white guy regularly.

As for fat guys, Troy Percival has really let himself go now. I can't really think of any others that haven't been mentioned.

My 2 favorite tubsters of all time would be Rich Garces and Ray King.

Prince Fielder is ridiculously fat. He looks like one of those marvelous athletes the NFL likes to use as linemen. He went from 50 homers in '07 to 34 last year. I'll be surprised if he's still any good when he's 30 unless he loses a lot of weight, and obese black players rarely if ever do.

BTW, Fielder is a vegetarian! He must eat redwood trees for dinner.

Vegetarian?! Yeah sure. Years ago when his fat old man was playing for the Tigers there was a local McDonald's commerical that featured Cecil taking his little boy (who was seriously pudgy) to Mickey Dee's. I doubt they were ordering salads. Cecil ate his way out of the bigs, I wouldn't be surprised to see Prince do it too.

(For those not in the know, the Wye Oak (named for the nearby Wye River) was a gigantic, 400+yo white oak tree located in a postage-stamp sized state park on a back road near Easton, MD. During the holding of hostages in Iran at the beginning of the 1980's, somebody took Tony Orlando's advice re the Wye Oak. One night in 2002[?], lightning felled it.)

Actually, pieces of the Wye Oak IIRC became part of the MD governor's desk, rather than Prince Fielder's diet. The stump remains, fenced off.

There are so many more obese black players in sports because pro sports try so hard to find black talent (and $ from DWFs) that they have to defer to the fat ones too. They justify many of them at DH, first base, and guard.

White men are much more athletic. This is shown because even with the enslaught of black 'talent" skill positions like QB, center, catcher, etc. Like you said before, affirmative action only works so much.

White people can do it all. They are the best decathletes. I know I can play virtually any sport and be descent at it, whereas blacks can only be as useful as DH or any position specializing in one simple task.

It is almost pathetic how DWFs believe blacks are the strongest race even when whites dominate all strength based sports. How the hell was that pulled off?

David Ortiz is near the top of the list. the comments are pretty good... a lot of cracks about hownow that his possible (probable?)co-enabler is gone to play for LA, we will see his body shrinkand he will become yet another .220 avg., 10 homer man--just like another famous hispanic negro--the immortal Sammy Sosa.

The elephant seal hit a home run last night that ESPN had to have replayed at least half a dozen times as the two white announcers oohed and aahed over the sound of the bat hitting ball. "He got all of that one" was their excited refrain. The ball landed in the first row of seats, hardly a tape measure shot. Then on Sports Center, the same drill --same replays shown over and over so that the unfunny comedians on set could also make the requisite oohs and aahs over Fat Boy's homer.

I remember the White Sox back in the late 70's hat a real lardass in Lamar Johnson he play 1b and he was so fat he couln't touch his toes a ball hit to him was a adventure as well if a line drive down the right field line count a double or triple.

i also remember Jimmy Piersoll call dave Parker a hippo or a baby whale back in the 80's Parker theatened to punch out Piesoll lights.

The Caste media is noticeably sad. Fausto Carmona faded. Kelvim Escobar got injured again. Ervin Santana has been fairly bad. Jose Contreras has never been what he was hyped-up to be when the Yankees' signed him several years ago.

About the only thing the Caste media can latch onto right now is Toronto's Ricky Romero.

Right now Prince is batting .302 and has 24 hrs i think he has respectively answered his critics. I will agree that he seems out of shape but hell i can't complain, him and Ryan Braun have been the only bright spots for the Brew Crew on offense this year! I think the Brewers need to trade either Mike Cameron or Bill Hall maybe Hardy as well. They need to do something to shake things up for the 2010 year! Pitching has been atrocious besides Looper and Gallardo(at times)
