I'm no expert on MMA, but it seemed that submissions had been taking a back seat to striking, so I think this result reminds the fighters that they better have some ground game.

Rookie mistake by Fedor which he won't make next time.

I think Fedor is going to ask for a rematch. He probably won't get that until after the Werdum/Overeem match. I think Fedor should have kept it standing, Werdum is a BJJ black belt. Ferdor should have done what Liddell did against Jeremy Horn in their rematch.

I know it sucks to have his great record tarnished with a loss, but nobody is perfect. He will come back strong in his next fight and kill his next opponent.

The losses are really starting to pile up and it's upsetting. White MMA fighters haven't been doing so well lately and now Fedor loses. Duddy last night, Arthur Abraham, Kessler, Pavlik(at least he lost to a white figher), and Diaconu. I know we can't win them all but I never in a million years expected Abraham or Kessler to lose to these afflete thugs Dirrell and Ward. A white fighter may not even win the Super Six.

I'm hoping Pirog and Kotelnik can win their caste matchups with affletes but they are going to have a tough time since both fights are in the US.

"The one who doesn't fall never stands up,"Â￾ said Emelianenko, the
former PRIDE heavyweight champion, through an interpreter. "It happened
that people made me an idol. But everybody loses. I'm just a human
being. And if it's God's will next fight, I'll win."Â￾

Emelianenko said after the fight it was the triangle, not the armbar,
that did him in.

"At the very beginning of the round, I hit him and I wanted to finish
as soon as possible,"Â￾ he said. "At that moment, I made a mistake. I
would like to have a rematch with Fabricio if he was to agree. I'd love
to do that
.
"There were several moments when I could escape, but I relied on
myself too much and that's why I paid for it. At the very moment when I
had to escape, I stopped, and that moment was used for Fabricio to lock
it on."Â￾

WA 33 I think you need a pep talk by Pollyana. The Super Six is far from over. Both Kesseler and Abraham as well as Frochy have the ability to pull it out. I still have money on Abraham to win it all.

As far as Ward, I think he has conducted himself as a professional and shuns the thug facade. I think some one here said his father is white. I gotta look into it.

That loss by Fedor was wierd. I don't follow the MMA as much as some of you but if you have to lose that is the way to do it. Getting the TFKO is the worst.

Where is Pollyana when you need him? LOL! I know Abraham,Kessler, or Froch can still pull it out. I just never expected Abraham to lose to Dirrell who runs the entire fight. I thought Kessler or Abraham would win it all but so far Froch has looked the best out of all our guys. Green is the weakest fighter in the tournament. Dirrell is a coward but Ward seems to be the real deal.

I'm not sure about Andre Ward's father being white. I haven't found any evidence of that online.

Werdum is the best BJJ (HW) player in the world...bar none. Fedor got over-zealous & overly relied on his G&P. He should have kept it standing & not gone to the mat so soon. This win was a bit of a fluke, as Fedor would win 9 of 10 times against Werdum...it's just last night happened to be that ONE time Werdum could/would beat Fedor.

I think 10/10 times if he had at least a modicum of respect for Werdum's jiu-jitsu, even if he fought on the ground. Ultimately this fight has shown in my mind that the only man that can truly defeat Fedor Emelianenko is Fedor Emelianenko himself.

I think im starting to recover. It had to happen eventually, and it really further demonstrates how unbelievable it was the he went for so long undefeated. Just one small error and it can be the end, but for year after year Fedor has not once made such an error. Finally he did it, and he was made to pay.

In the big picture, it is just one tiny blemish in the incredible career of the greatest fighter in the world today.

Yes but now those publications that had Fedor as the top P4P guy in the world will instead have Anderson Silva as the top guy. I know many already had Silva ahead of Fedor but this will just give them more reason.

Fedor is a humble guy, and his comments after his loss just gave me more reason to respect him. Fedor will bounce back, he didn't suffer a brutal TKO so we won't have to worry about the "Arlovski" effect. Maybe now Fedor will be able to fight free and have fun again without worrying about keeping his streak intact.

More likely, GSP, another great white fighter.

Cheer up guys, whites hold 4 of the 5 belts in the UFC and we still dominate. MMA is not like boxing and there are just so many ways to lose that it is impossible to go undefeated. As noted, Werdum is the best BJJ practitioner in MMA so he did have a great shot if the fight went to the ground.

Also, gotta say this - Fedor is part of a passing generation in MMA. He is maybe the best of all time but is a little too small for a modern heavyweight.

Also, this will gin up the rematch which Fedor will win. And at least he didn't lose to a black (like Overeem who is THE favorite of the Drunk (and gay) White Fans because of his steroid addled physique).

From what I understand in the we hold only around one third of all belts in UFC, Pride, and Strikeforce. Dixie posted that information a few months ago. That's not exactly dominating.

Well, UFC is as follows:

Heavyweight - Lesnar (white)
Lt. Heavy - Mauricio Rua (white Brazilian)
Middleweight - A. Silva (black Brazilian)
Welterweight - GSP (white)
Lightweight - Frankie Edgar (white)

Pride is extinct (unless they came back without me knowing)

Strikeforce is 2 blacks, 1 white and two Hispanics but they are the minor leagues.

The current P4P top ten (before the Fedor loss) is as follows:

1. Georges St-Pierre (20-2)
2. Anderson Silva (26-4)
3. Fedor Emelianenko (31-1-1)
4. Jose Aldo (17-1)
5. Mauricio Rua (19-4)
6. BJ Penn (15-6-1)
7. Lyoto Machida (16-1)
8. Jake Shields (0-0)
9. Frank Edgar (12-1)
10. Dominick Cruz (15-1)

There is also the Bellator Fighting Championships. I saw it for the first time last night. They had a very good Russian fighter Alexander Shlemenko who defeated a black fighter fairly easily. Also Polish mma heavyweight, Damian Grabowski, is another undefeated prospect who fights for them.

I think Ben Askren just won a Bellator championship as well. Askren was an NCAA champion in wrestling and is coming along very quickly in MMA. He beat Dan Hornbuckle who was knocking everyone out in Japan.

I'll wager Askren is in the UFC by this time next year.

Fedor gets in minor trouble in a lot of his fights. Outboxed by Arlovski, busted up nose against Rogers, that Japanese guy who put him on queer street briefly, Randleman dropping him on his head, Cro Cop landing some good shots, grabbing the ropes to prevent a takedown by Lindland. For me, that's his mystique: this normal looking guy going up against usually much bigger opponents, getting in trouble, not always looking great, but always finding a way to win. This time he didn't get the win. Statistically, it had to happen eventually. Everybody loses in MMA.

Solid analysis JD074. I hope Fedor takes this loss very personally and avenges the loss against Werdum in the upcoming rematch. But this loss basically means the winner of Lesnar/Carwin is truly the baddest man on the planet and I can't wait for that ppv.

True, but he has also had spectacular wins as well as dominant ones.
