No Triple Crown Again This Year

I thought it might be kind of cool to see a Triple Crown winner after 36 years; there were three of them in the 1970s and no one foresaw such a long drought coming.

But after watching NBC's ridiculously over the top coverage of the Belmont, I'm glad now that California Chrome didn't win. I only watched the last 45 minutes of NBC's 3 hour build-up, but that was 44 minutes too much. The hero worship of a mere horse was sick, but then again in this weird society in which most people care a lot more about animals than they do their fellow man, it was to be expected. In fact, during one shot of California Chrome entering the track, Tom Hammond remarked about how the fans were "cheering their hero."

At various points before the race announcers remarked how "calm" California Chrome was, as if he understood what was going on. Joe Namath did a spot in which he wished the horse "good luck." I think this is partly to do with Anglo-Saxon derived peoples love for equestrians. During the horse meat scandal the rest of Europe didn't see what the big deal was. Even steppe peoples don't respect horses as much as Anglos seem to do. Obviously it's amplified in our current culture but it's nothing new.

The try for the triple crown was a big deal up in this part of California so naturally people were disappointed, especially the ones down in Yuba City. It got voted one of the crappiest communites to live on not to long ago, so at least this horse gave them something to cheer for.

Oh well, we still have Aaron Rodgers.

Indeed. My wife is a forner competitive (equestrian) rider...dressage and hunters & jumpers. We've a mare that my wife rides (albeit occasionally), as we've 4 kids who're busy with athletics & she (also) works full time. However, the hectic schedule hasn't tarnished her love of these fine creatures.

BTW, my favorite horses include Roy Roger's Trigger, the Lone Ranger's Silver & General Lee's Traveler. ;-)

They were making a big deal about this on my local sports squawk radio with the jock agreeing that it was "unfair" for Totalist to only run the Belmont. I don't think the Triple Crown is a horse racing season so if a horse owner wants to only enter one of the races then what's the big deal? The owner is trying to win some $$$$ not play by some imaginary rules. It sounds like sour grapes on the part of the losing owner.

NBC made the co-owner out to be some great humble guy in the build-up documentary then he blew a gasket after the race sounding like a self-entitled brat and a sore loser.

Don Wassall offers great insight when he says that society is giving animals human-like qualities, and promoting the rights of animals over the rights of everyday, middle-class human beings. I agree with Don Wassall's obervations and I can observe the exact same thing happening within the media, pop culture, and society at large.

The perpetually progressive cultural marxist agenda has always been hell-bent on turning morals and common decency upside down. Ultimately, you could say that cultural marxists and leftists seek to normalize perversions, deviations, and oddities. What was seen as moral, decent, and sensical in say the 1950's is today viewed as racist and sexist.

Today's job market, media, and society seem to reward behaviour that would have traditionally been viewed as "bad". For example, TV shows that encourage or glorify teenage out of wedlock pregnancy are an example of this. Watching tv shows and movies such as The Hunger Games lately I also notice themes of child violence and child sex becoming mainstream and normalized. Then of course there's also the whole push to legalize gateway drugs and in a way normalize drug use and drug addicts as respected members of society. Leftists just seem hell-bent on normalizing perversions and totally eliminating traditional morals.

The animal rights movement has become prominent in the past decade or so and it wouldn't surprise me to see leftists push animal issues more and more. It is forseeable in the future that animals begin to have rights that are more and more similar to humans. In fact, I've read opinion pieces where authors have theorized that one day certain animals may have the right to vote in elections. While that may sound crazy right now, many of the things that society has normalized and accepts as "normal" today (gays marrying and raising their own or adopted children, women being allowed to vote in the same capacity as men, offering illegal immigrants amnesty) would have similarily been viewed as crazy a century or so ago, perhaps even less.

I'm not a horse-racing guru, although some years ago, watching the Kentucky Derby, I decided to learn more about the sport and particularly the history of the Triple Crown.


The 70s are widely regarded as the golden era of horse racing. You had your last 3 Triple Crown winners in this decade, and there were many other great horses as well who are lesser known.


Secretariat is universally accepted as the greatest racing horse of all time. He still holds all 3 records for the Triple Crown races, including the clincher at Belmont when he won by 30 lengths. I watch the video from time to time and gives me chills every single time:

The last winner of the TC was Affirmed in 1978, who had a great rivalry with another horse named Alydar. Alydar is the only horse to have finished all three TC races in 2nd place, including of course the 1978 Belmont Stakes, widely regarded as the best race of all-time:

I'm not sure why we haven't had another winner in almost 40 years as I don't have any expertise about the inner workings of the sport. I will say one thing, the horse is a fine and noble animal, been with man since almost the dawn of civilization. Horses have always had a very unique interaction/relationship with humans, unlike any other animal.

Sometimes I'd like to see another TC winner, but then again, it is pretty cool that the last winner came the year I was born. Affirmed to me was the greatest of the 1970s TC horses, as it competed against a stronger field, imho. Alyadar, for example, would have won the TC in '79 if born a year later.

We may well have a Triple Crown winner this year. Justify is a 4\5 favorite to win the Belmont Stakes, which is about to take place. NBC has the ubiquitous, magical Negro Tirico as the main announcer. Sports Fans really can't get away from this guy. He's like the new, black Bob Costas, who just so happens to be on this broadcast also!

One of Justify’s co-owners is ‘SF Racing’...owned by employees of George Soros’ investment firm. With that...I was hoping Justify would NOT with the crown, but he’s too good a horse.
