This is interesting Our courageous Republican leaders are putting off immigration legislation until after the elections. In other words they will pretend to be listening to us while doing absolutely nothing. After they are safely re-elected,they will pass some type of amnesty program while calling it everything else under the sun. In the meantime our boder is as porous as a sieve. .

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. congressional leaders are giving up on broad immigration legislation that would legalize millions of illegal immigrants and instead will concentrate on border security ahead of the elections, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said on Wednesday.

"I think it would be next to impossible to pass a comprehensive bill that includes dealing with the diversity of 12 million people here in the next three weeks," the Tennessee Republican told reporters.

I'm not sure if doing nothing is such a bad thing at this point in time. No bill is better than a bad bill, especially considering that the Senate bill may be the worst piece of legislation in US history. We don't want a "compromise" between amnesty and enforcement only. Of course, simply waiting until after the elections to pass an amnesty bill would totally suck.

Enforcement first, enforcement only, amnesty never!!

They're waiting til after the elections because they don't want to show their true colors. A full 80% of Americans are against another amnesty; but Congress will pass a bill that contains amnesty provisions, even if by another name, once they resume session later in the fall.

I have no doubt.

The best thing that can happen (the least evil of the potential outcomes) is for the Democrats to retake Congress and then we can only hope for as much deadlock between the two nearly identical wings of the one party system as possible.

Dunno Don, that may work for issues other than immigration, but it is mostly a few Republicans that are holding amnesty at bay right now. If the Dems win, Bush will start gushing about being bi-partisan, working together for the good of the American people, and there it is - amnesty.

You speak the truth -- mi amigo. Also, the Republicans who are in opposition to amnesty would not want to incur the wrath of EL Presidente and be forced to go it alone without party money and support. for their re-election bids.

They can discuss particulars after they close the border. How many of these types do we have residing within our communitiesalready?

Gunmen Toss 5 Human Heads on Dance Floor

September 06, 2006 at 17:40:13 PDT

MEXICO CITY (AP) - In a horrifying show of brutality, gunmen barged into a bar in central Mexico early Wednesday and tossed five human heads on the dance floor, after covering patrons with their weapons, officials said.

Heavily armed men fired their guns in the air as they entered the bar in Uruapan in the central state of Michoacan, said Magdalena Guzman, spokeswoman for the state prosecutor's office. The gunmen ordered patrons to the ground before tossing the heads.

Guzman said investigators believe the beheadings were linked to organized crime, possibly drug smugglers. No arrests had been made....

Guzman said the state prosecutor and governor had requested the federal government beef up organized crime investigators in the Pacific coast state. Officials also urged the public to come forward with any information.

The grisly killings were the latest in a nation plagued by growing drug-related violence.

Arrests of major drug cartel leaders have sparked an increasingly brutal and ruthless drug war in Mexico as gangs battle for control of lucrative routes.

So far this year, at least six human heads of police and rival drug smugglers have been found in the Pacific resort of Acapulco. One washed up on a popular beach in the tourist zone, and the rest have been dumped in front of government offices.

In the past few months, heads have also been found in other states plagued by drug violence, including the border states of Baja California and Nuevo Leon.
