NfL is a business

From my experiences around football (my dad was aassistantcollege coachand later a team doctor) football is a business. I remember in 8th grade mymath teacher said that in 10 years there would be no white people in football. I went home and asked my dad if this was true, he told me that it wasn't true. He saidthere as many white high school football stars as white ones, but on the next level it got distorted He said that average white high school star would be turned into, a tight end, a fullback, a safety, or linebacker. The number one goal of a D1A-1AA program is too make money. For example Miami's football team makes on average 200 million dollars a year. The Athletic director, too keep his job, tries to promote a large fan base to fill up the stadium. When the scouts try to get players for their schools, they try to get the kids who will devote nearly all of his time to football. That is the distorting factor, blacks usually will spend more time developing their skills for football while most whites willtry to get a education.Hence, causing more of an increase in the amount of black players in college.

The jump from college to the pros is essentially like getting a job. The college football player has a 1 in 13 chance to go to the pros after college and many have to get jobs. The few who qualify go through many little tests that tell team owners general managers, and coaches what player will be like on the next level. The 40 yarddashhas become the SATof the NFL. Getting ascore thatis too mediocre can really send a first rounder to the second round, just like getting a low SAT can send a Valedictorian to a state school. Just like colleges the NFL test for something that really has nothing to do with your ability to preform. They do these tests because drafting and then paying player is a massive investment, at least 250000$,they go through these tests just like you would when you would buy a car. Don't forget, the NFL is like any business, their many goal is too make a profit. Mant GMs will go after a exciting player before they go after someone who is better. For example, Michael Vick is considered to be the most exciting player in the NFL, thereare better QB'sbutno player canfill a stadium likeVick. Hehas one of the NFL's top selling jerseys and will move merchandise like crazy. When reading through this forum I get the feeling that somepeople think the NFL is more then it is, a business; alsoI get the feeling that some of you think it is someones right to be in the NFL.There really is no conscous effort to disfranchise the white player, how could there,75-85% of the NFL's administration is white. Plaing in the NFL is almost like being a doctor in the essence that you always have to get better to go farther.

Well I guess that settles it. Edited by: KJV1

Y2Kplaya said "also I get the feeling that some of you think it is someone's right to be in the NFL." Nobody here at CF thinks such a thing playa. That's kind of a ironic statement for a likely black person such as yourself to say "playa". Since most black people are for affirmative action at places of employment where blacks are not sufficiently represented..then why can't whites feel the same way about the NFL. We actually don't want someone mandating that there have to be more whites in the NFL..we just want a fair opportunity with no stereotypes about the white athlete or internal politics getting in the way.

Yah, I get your point playa - white players who are smarter and better are bad for business. Ever look in the stands?

Try going to blackathlete.com. They'll think your a genuis.

Why would any "business" purposefully discriminate against faster, more productive players on the basis of skin color? If "winning is the only thing" in the NFL, why would any coach not play the best players? As for Vick, the only way anyone can be given a purely subjective title like "the most exciting player" is via media and league promotion. After years of disappointment and very, very little "excitement," a team devoted to winning, within this competitive "business," would have stopped calling Vick "exciting" a long time ago. He would, in fact, have been labeled a bust and been replaced as a starting QB, based on his woeful performance. That is, if not for his skin color, which is the most precious commodity any player can have in the NFL's socially concerned, propaganda-laden "business."

Wow that was rude. I think I need to explain to the people who dont understand my screename.

y2k-2000, Playa- Player, 92 -my firstfootball number( I got faster I get the ball now, so wear 88)

So now even the high school dropouts like yourself can know what my name means. How do you know thatmost black people are for Affirmative Action. I have Never ever asked for something I didnt deserve. Edited by: Y2kplaya92

There was nothing rude about my posting. My instincts were proven right about you. As far as the playa thing goes..any confusion about that screen name was caused by yourself..not me. I figured out who you were and what you were up to by that screen name and in your second posting when you wrote a ignorant one line blip about how JJ Redick could play no defence. While you say you may not be for affirmative action..most polls still show a large majority of African Americans do. Why don't you go down to the Happy Hour forum and read how a fellow brother Futuregohan conducts himself.

Duh, NFL be a bisiness and stuff. Social factors are inconsequential. Really dog, playa, homey, gee, boo, or maybe I should call you liltroll.

Whoever said I was black, I said that I never asked for something I didnt deserve, use your brain. Guest301, never in that post do I state I am black, want me to post a pick of me playingin the state championship. Then you can post a pick of you playing in the ladies tennis tournament.

Then you do a excellent job of imitating a ignorant black..playa. Say bye bye troll! Really funny comment about me playing in a ladies tennis tournament.

You don't know anything about me and I would bet that if we met I would ground and pound you into oblivion but only after I put the snotlock(chokehold) on you. Not bad for a ladies tennis player. Bye troll!

I kind of miss "playa92". My own personal nemesis! I am sure he's at blackathlete.com or some other sports site complaining about caste football. We are bothering alot of people out there and that's a good thing.
