Nine whites on the first team (or ten with Tatupu) is a big-time improvement over recent years. Big time. And four white o-linemen, it's about freaking time. Very nice, though I have to wonder if this will be maintained next year or if it'll be three steps backward for white NFL players as there usually is every time they "surge" a bit. However the very long overdue recognition ofsome white linemen (and Vrabel too for that matter) gives me a tiny bit of hope that this is another manifestationof the Colts-Patriots white friendly "trend" that Jason Whitlock wrote about recently.

Me too Don! That trend taking over the league would be a vast improvement over what we have now. I can't wait to see Blacksonville get smashed by the trend-setters.

Reb, this game reminds me of NCAA basketball games where we root for the team with 2 or 3 white starters to beat the all-black team, or for the white boxer to knock off the black one. Although every NFL team is black dominated, I consider this the most interesting game from a racial perspective that has taken place since the Bills were dominating the AFC with a half white team -- the "trendsetters" vs. the best and most zealous of thedefenders of the status quo.

I know what you mean Don. If New England and Indy can continue to dominate over the next couple of years, I am hopeful that quite a few other teams will jump on the bandwagon. Granted it won't be easy or quick if it happens, but I sure hope it does. The differences in the New England-Jacksonville teams will be most visible when NEs offense is on the field. Hopefully people will start to really see the big lie for what it is.

they need to move Indy to NFC, or packers need to go and get themselves some whites at RBs, WRs, TEs and DBs

another thing to remember that both Colts and Patriots actually carry white runningbacks, as Lawton adn Eckel are officially RBs.

Indy has 30 blacks on its 53 man playoff roster.

And that's about as good as it gets.

Negro's cheered for the Brooklyn Dodgers just because they had ONE black guy. It's all relative

Don, the basketball analogy I think of would be of a team (such as Duke with Laettner and Hurley in the early 90s) where the 2-3 white starters were star players who were well known nationally and who were also the leaders of their team. The emphasize is not necessarily the quantity (although seeing 2-3 white players starting on a basketball team is a great thing) but the quality (the 2-3 white players are the best players on the team and the reason why the team is playing for a championship).

That's what I see with New England. Tom Brady and Mike Vrabel are the MVPs on offense and defense respectively. In addition, the Pats offensive line is outstanding and boasts tough white guys who don't take $#$# from black defenders and most importantly will defend, back up, and vigorously fight for Tom Brady if any black player lays a finger on him.

Of course, we also have Wes Welker. No matter what the media says, he's one of the top wideouts in the NFL.

I could go on. But, I whole heartedly agree that this Patriots team is the best team we've had to pull for since those Bills Super Bowl teams. The Bills did have more whites on defense, like Kelso, Conlin, Bentley, Wright, Schultz, etc.

Interestingly enough, I can remember back then hearing about a fight that occurred in Buffalo's locker room between a white and black player that got started becasue the 2 players involved were arguing over whether white or black players contributed more to the Bills success.

It's great that an argument like that easily could occur in regards to today's Patriots team. Take away the white players on New England, and that team is in huge trouble quite obviously.

Moss is a great player. Welker is the most blatant product of the system. He isn't average or bad at all, but he isn't as good as the other two, and he isn't as good as Fitzgerald (Who had more yards and TD's than Welker. I didn't check/compare the other two with Welker)

this is another guys veiw on welker after someon challenged him after he said welker should have been replaced by fitzgerald

Dont know if "Neon" is white or black i hope somone else picks him up on it Edited by: whiteknight

2 white ends this year. That is absolutely unbelievable. Kerney and Allen both deserve it. Luckily Witten got the nod over the "Great" Antonio Gates.

I remember that too. Don't think the players involved were ever identified, at least nationally. Maybe a Bills fan knows.

You can bet that most black football fans are very aware of the racial matchup between the Patriots and Jaguars, just as they always are in boxing, basketball, track, tennis, golfand any sports where blacks are participating against whites.

White football fans? Probably pretty much oblivious. Edited by: Don Wassall

It is a tribute to what a great season Jason Witten had that he was voted ALL-Pro because, oftentimes, guys will get votes for their reputation and past accomplishments, more so than for their merit. It's similar to how a black athlete will oftentimes be automatically considered better than a white one in the absence of any evidence or even when there is evidence to the contrary. It's a quirk of human nature. Also, tight end is a postition at which whites are not automatically considered inferior. A white running back, wide receiver, or cornerback would have to be fantastic to get the votes.

Im totaly shocked

! Bob Sanders has pulled out of the pro bowl with injury and has been replaced by non other than John Lynch
smiley4.gif
!!! Who would've thought that would happen?

However, the NFL website makes up for it by picking Mario Williams instead of Jared Allen as one of the 5 defensive players of the year along with (Patrick Kerney, Mike Vrable, Bob Sanders and Antonio Cromartie). I mean Jared Allen played 2 less games than Williams but still managed 5 more tackles, 1.5 more sacks and even forced 1 more fumble than Williams. It's obviously a sin to have 3 whites and only 2 blacks in the running regardless of performance, especially seeing as the white defensive player is highly outnumbered. Having two white DE's and no black DE would also just be truly shocking

The wildly over-rated Marcus McNeill has been named to the Pro Bowl, replacing the wildly over-rated Jonathan Ogden. Ogden missed a good portion of the '07 season with an injury and looked even slower and more sluggish than usual when he played. McNeill was schooled in two different games by Kyle Vanden Bosch, who he couldn't come close to blocking. McNeill's now made it his first two seasons, which means he's now a Pro Bowl lifer of the Reuben Brown persuasion.

Marcus McNeil's feet and legs are so sluggish when the play starts. He's also a very uncoordinated and lumbering sumo.

It's a good thing for him that he has athletic skin.
