I am proposing a new American holiday. On September 14, all America should celebrate the conquest of Mexico by Winfield Scott on 1848.

In six months, Scott marched from the sea, defeated the Mexicans in a couple of battles, stormed a fortress, and captured Mexico City. This was the first foreign capital captured by our army. It was not an easy campaign. At one point the elistments for the volunteers expired and they left. This reduced his army by half. Parisan attacked his supply lines. Scott countered this by cutting his lines and living off the land. This would be a tactic that Sherman followed in 1864. The Duke of Wellington, who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo, called this campaign "The greatest in history."
This holiday will come two days before Mexican independance day, which all Americans are required to celebrate nowadays. I hope this will tick off all Mexicans in my area and yours.
Ideas: Since his nickname was "Old fuss and Feathers" we should all wear a feather. Marching through Mexican areas with large signs saying, "God bless Winfield Scott." is an idea.
It would be nice to have a holiday celebrating one of America's heros.

Great idea, screamingeagle. I believe a letter to the editorial page of your local newspaper might be a good place to start, if they'll print it.

That's a great idea screamingeagle, you can be sure I will be celebrating it just as you mentioned. Spread the word!
