Meikle Earns Academic All-district Honors

PROVO, Utah (November 10, 2005) -- Junior receiver Nathan Meikle has been named Academic All-District by ESPN the Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America. He was one of 24 athletes from 15 schools named to the District 8 team.
A native of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Meikle is a business major with a 3.85 cumulative grade point average.
Meikle is playing in his first season with the Cougars and has made an immediate impact. Through nine games, he has caught 21 passes for 155 yards, rushed six times for 41 yards and returned 16 punts for 108 yards. Against Boston College, he led the team with a career-high nine receptions, and in the TCU game, he set a career high with 53 receiving yards.
His first-career touchdown came against Air Force on a 12-yard run in the first quarter that put the Cougars up 14-0. His longest punt return was a 22-yarder in the third quarter against Notre Dame that put BYU in Irish territory and led to a Cougar touchdown that cut the Irish lead to 28-23.
Before coming to BYU, Meikle played at Snow Junior College for two seasons. He was named a first-team Academic All-American as a freshman.
The first-team selections from each district across the country advance to the national ballot to be considered for the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Team.
