Adam Morrison was traded along with Shannon Brown to the Lakers today for Vlad Radmanovich. Hopefully Morrison will get more playing time with the Lakers.

You beat me to it Guest. Yeah I think this trade could bode well for both parties. The Lakers coveted Morrison based on the potential he is yet to realize and they didn't need Radmanovic anymore with both Walton and Oden in the rotation already.

The Lakers having some tough post guys should open up things for Morrison on the outside and some lanes for him to score some floaters inside. He may be a player who needs powerful guys inside to allow him to succeed.

Wow. how things change quickly!

I like this trade, Morrison is still very young with a lot of potential to excel. He will be part of LA's long term success. The minus part is that Adam is very inexperienced at this point.

Vlad is in his prime, but thanks to his experience in last years playoff run, he will get big-time minutes quickly, despite the coach being Larry Brown.

Best of luck to both players.

i can't understand why the Lakers got rid of Vlad the Impaler and kept Lamar Odom... Vlad was starting early on in the season and was really impressing, meanwhile Odom was inconsistent and pouting because he had to come off the bench. with Vlad on the floor, the Lakers had a 6-10 player who could really stretch the floor, play defense on the perimeter, and run which created a near-impossible athletic 4-man lineup to match (Kobe, Vlad, Pau, and Bynum). with Odom they have a 6-10 ball hog.

yeah, i can see why you'd make the decision to keep Odom.

hopefully, both Morrison and Vlad will thrive in their new environs, however.

I'm trying to think of a player similar to Morrison who has excelled for Phil Jackson.

I think Phil Jackson simply does not trust Vlad, and he therefore became expandable. He's an athletic big man who can shot from anywhere on the court, but I wouldn't be too hard on Odom, he's a pretty good player himself, as evidenced by his game against the Celtics the other night. Both of these guys seem to lack the mental toughness to bring it every night, and the lack of consistency is their big problem, not lack of talent.

I hope Morrison can get some confidence back and can work his way into the Lakers rotation. He got a golden opportunity to start 4 games with Wallace injured, but still struggled, so he had to get out of Charlotte.

Oden seems to be an efficient scorer at least, but the Lakers certianly don't need more big time scorers once Bynum gets back in the lineup in a few months.

However, from what I've seen, Oden does seem to have good court vision when he does pass and is really quick and can get some steals.

I think this trade could work out well. Oden is a good contrast to Walton at SF for the Lakers and can bring energy off the bench as the 6th man. They can slowly bring Morrison along and maybe he'll even start in a couple years for this championship caliber team; when he gains some confidence back or one of the other SFs leave.

Morrison thrives on great team play, LA has many good passers, especially from the likes of Gasol, Walton, Odom, and maybe even Bryant. Peja Stojakovic is one player I often compare to Morrison, for he too thrives on team work, first with Divac, Webber, and Brad Miller in Sacramento, now with Chris Paul in New Orleans. I would agree with that assessment of Morrison. He's never been an elite explosive athlete, but he is a great shooter with a high release who has great footwork, hands, court vision and instincts.

I think Peja is a more explosive athlete that can create his own shot better against the most athletic NBA defenders though.

I thought Morrison was going to be a big NBA star from what I saw of him at Gonzaga. I am hoping he will have a big revival in LA as at least a third scoring option in the future; with all their great passers he might have a good shot at this!

Morrison is a knockdown shooter, LA got him because of that capability, the same way Utah traded for Kyle Korver, another player I can compare to Morrison. Korver too thrives on team work, as Utah is one of best passing teams in all of the NBA.

The Lakers will need another knockdown shooter to truly beat Boston, Cleveland, and San Antonio. The problem with Morrison now is his defense, where he will need to work on really hard. Vlad I'd say is a much better defender at this point.

Even though LA has knockdown shooters in Vujacic, Fisher, and Bryant, Morrison's addition will make them even more lethal on the offensive end, as they have solid low-post presence in Gasol, Odom, and Bryant. Once Bynum does return, and for once stays healthy, the whole NBA had better watch out, for Morrison will be a big part of their offensive firepower.Edited by: j41181

I think this was a great trade for the Lakers. Vlad is a good but streaky shooter. He is also sort of 1 dimensional as a scorer and does not rebound well for a player of his height. Basically you know what you are going to get from him. Plus, the Lakers had to many PFs and SF is a position they could improve on.

Morrison on the other hand, still remains a mystery (in a good way). He still has a high ceiling IMO. As others have alluded to he will potentially fit much better into the Laker's triangle offense. I still believe Adam is working his way back from that devastating knee injury that cost him a full season. Just being on the court healthy is a step in the right direction. If he can reestablish some of the lost confidence and swagger (in addition to staying healthy), I will see this season as a positive one going forward for Adam.

I am surprised with Morrison. I expected much more from him. His shooting percentage is low and he is really struggling. This season is worse than last for him. I hope he doesn't turn out to be another Keith Van Horn. I thought Van Horn would be a superstar and he turned out to be very average.

I just realized I called Lamar Odom Lamar Oden..

..Oh well at least I caught the error, must have been tired. I think Morrison could sneak into a role as the third option for the Lakers in the future and be quite productive and comfortable. A third scoring option who is an efficient player is better than average, but for where Morrison was drafted that is still under performing a bit. The DWFs will always talk about the failures of Morrison. Well at least Redick is stepping it up this season.

i have the same fear. Adam really sucked filling in for Wallace. i hope the change of scenery will do him some good. personally, i think that cap room is the main reason for this move, on the Lakers' part. i'm praying Phil will use some of his zen magic and get Adam playing like he did in college.

Keith Van Horn was no superstar but he did have a few good years, I think he even made the all-star team once if I am not mistaken. Injury problems and his skin tone derailed him from accomplishing more.

If Morrison becomes as good as Van Horn, that will be a huge step up at this point. Here's hoping this trade will jump start his career.

Van Horn and Morrison were both compared to Bird. Neither of these two is even close to Bird.Edited by: whiteathlete33

Well, unless he can turn things around, it's safe to say that Morrison has been a big bust. It's sad really, as I also had lots of hope for him. And in this case, we cannot complain that he did not get the right opportunities because it seems he was given a pretty fair shot. I was most disappointed with his 4-game performance following the Wallace injury. It's times like that when you really have to make the best of such chances. Of course, the injury in his 2nd year certainly did not help matters.

His biggest problem right now is lack of confidence, coupled with this inability play defense. It's really up to him to turn things around. The Lakers are a white-friendly team with a good system, he's back in the WC, so all the ingredients are in place.

I don't agree that if he doesn't get another chance in his career at playing time; we don't have a gripe though. You're right he's been a disappointment, but he was a college stud who had a serious knee injury at the beginning of his second year.

He deserves at least part of a year of playing time (which he should get after showing signs in practice) with LA to see if he shows some signs he can be an NBA contributor.

Also look at all the blacks that get injured in sports who get welcomed back. I can name a long list if you'd like me too. Shawn Livingston, even Jason Williams (who I feel bad for by the way) after his serious motorcycle accident. And in the NFL Sinorice Moss and WR Carter for the Giants missed the majority of their first 3 years and weren't cut and they weren't as high picks as Morrison in basketball.

They were only compared to Bird because they are white forwards. Virtually no white athlete can live up to the legacy and quality of play that Bird brought to the game. Dirk comes close but he needs a couple of rings before he is done.

Yes well alot of writes thought Van Horn would be as good as Bird. If Van Horn would have been half as good I would have been satisfied.

Van Horn was never close to Bird, never was. But he was a very good player. Injury was the reason he never achieved his full potential. If he had Nowitzki's durability, I'm sure he would have had a more successful career. Wally Szczerbiak is right now suffering the same fate as Van Horn.

Van Horn was not nearly as good as a player as he should have/could have been.
He didn't play with enough confidence and aggression. Except for a season or two, he seemed to play timid and fade into the background.
I always liked the guy and was rooting for him, but he never lived up to expectations.

Yeah, that's another thing, Van Horn lacked the heart and determination to excel and succeed, something Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, and Pau Gasol fortunately have.Edited by: j41181

I remember how I really started realizing just how good a player Dirk was when he just lit up San Antonio and won game 7 with that brilliant 3 point play.

Unfortunately bad officiating as well as Wade catching fire in that game (was it game 5 or 6) doomed the Mavs. The Mavs looked like they were well on their way to a championship in the first half of that series. As we all know Shaq has always been subjectively officiated in his career.

Dirk needs another quality starter other than just Howard to contend with Boston. There just isn't enough talent overall in Mav land for Dirk to get a ring this year.

Nash might very well already have a ring if it weren't for a$$hole David Stern.
