Minnesota Vikings General Thread

Not sure we spoke about it much but the Vikings acquiring Sam Howell for a 5th round pick was a great deal. It seems that McCarthy is being handed the keys this year but there is now a viable alternate if he falters or has an injury. Love it.

One less starter as Vikes trade away Harrison Phillips..
Wow. Traded him and a 7th round pick away to the Jets for a pair of 6th round picks. Jets definitely got a steal on this one.

Would be a good move. Thielen would provide a great security blanket for McCarthy.

Not only would Adam "provide a great security blanket for McCarthy", but trading him back Minnesota, would remove Bryce Young's #1 security blanket in Carolina! As mediocre, to poor, as Young has looked early in his career, Thielen has been his best receiver, by far. Young stats are exponentially better when Adam is healthy and plays.

Let's not forget, Young was a "historic" draft pick. Historic, in the sense that he wound up costing Carolina two number one overall picks. I doubt that's happened in any sport? First using the #1 pick overall they acquired to pick him in 2023. Then trading away the #1 overall in 2024 to pay off the debt.

P.S: Thielen should have never left the Vikings. Should've been a career Viking. Just like Cooper Kupp should've never left the Rams, to make room for a broken down Devante Adams.

Not sure I like it if it happens. Thielen would likely fall behind Addison once he returns and thus lose his starting position in Carolina and then Minnesota. My first thought was that it would help Hunter Renfrow but Weenieworld is reporting that Renfrow might not even make the final roster. Apparently Dave Canales doesn't like him much. The Caste Clown tag team of Canales and Dan Morgan have shown no indication so far of keeping the Panthers anything but a hard-core Caste squad. Canales must be channeling the spirit of Josh McDaniels, who gave Hunter the Peyton Hillis treatment in Vegas. Maybe it'll work out ok, but sometimes a bird in the hand. . .

The Athletic’s Joe Person believes Hunter Renfrow may not be a lock to make the Panthers’ 53-man roster. It’s worth pointing out that in his latest roster projections, Person has Renfrow making the roster. The former Pro Bowler battled through a hamstring injury during part of camp, but has reportedly impressed in camp. Person believes “others in the organization are higher on Renfrow” than head coach Dave Canales, which could be why the 29-year-old slot receiver remains firmly on the roster bubble even with a strong camp. Renfrow’s chances of making the roster improve if the Panthers were to trade Adam Thielen to the Vikings, a move that has reportedly been discussed between the two teams. Even if he makes the roster, it’s hard to imagine Renfrow having much, if any, fantasy impact in 2025.

Morgan, another former White player turned GM, has been a huge let down. Obviously don’t expect him to do as a CF member would, but hard core caste whores isn’t the way to go either.

Even though it would be feel good story for Thielen to return to the Vikings, I hope it doesn't happen. He is a starter in Carolina and in Minnesota he would be a bench player with very few reps after their receiver returns. I hope he stays where he is at to help his career
legacy.

I don't think it's the worst thing. Thielen is on the back end of his career. He would be no worse than the number 3 WR during the season. According to ChatGPT in 2024 they ran 3 WR sets 57.2% of the time.

Young White QBs are rarely put into advantageous situations so giving McCarthy another reliable target as he develops would be ideal.

I was actually kind of pumped when Morgan got the job but he's turned out to be Matt Millen/Jim Haslett level of awful when it comes to former White LBs as head coaches and GMs. Mike Vrabel is another although hope springs eternal that he'll be different in New England.

I was optimistic as well. Doesn’t take long for a reality check though.. Short list of fair coaches/GMs sadly.

It’s ironic in a way because he was drafted specifically to counter the Falcons with Michael Vick and Morgan was used a the “spy” meaning he had the athletic ability to contain the best running QB in the league at the time. Can’t be more disappointed in his tenure so far in Carolina.

The fact that 20+ years later we hear nothing on broadcasts about LBs being used a spies on running QBs is beyond bizarre to me.
