WBO interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KOs) scored a third round TKO over previously unbeaten Kevin Mitchell (31-1, 23 KOs) on Saturday night outdoors before a disappointed crowd at the Upton Park soccer stadium in London. Katsidis rocked the hometown hero Mitchell in round three and, after a furious follow up barrage, the bout was waved off by referee Dave Perris. Time was 1:57.

Bit disappointing. I thought Mitchell might have more "upside" than Katsidis. But some other Brit had warned Mitchell that Katsidis was dangerous and it turned out he was right. How about Katsidis Khan if Khan wins tonight. Nah, Khan's managers won't let him anywhere near a puncher like Katsidis.

Just announced that Michael with face Juan Marquez for the lineal lightweight title. Its a very winnable fight for him, although Marquez is a P4P fighter. It should be an excellent action fight with both leaving it in ring. The bout is scheduled for 11/27.

Katsidis fight on hold after brother's death

Michael Katsidis's world lightweight title fight against Mexican champion Juan Manuel Marquez is on hold after the sudden death of the Australian's brother, promoters said on Wednesday.

Katsidis was training in Thailand for the November 27 bout in Las Vegas when he was told his brother and Australia champion jockey Stathi had been found dead at home in Brisbane on Tuesday.

"Our concern is for Michael as a person, rather than boxing," David Itskowitch, an executive at Golden Boy Promotions, told the Australian Associated Press.

"We want him to be OK and I don't know if he can be OK because he just lost his brother."

Itskowitch said the WBO and WBA title fight had not been scrapped and that it would be up to Michael (27-2) to decide if he wanted to take the bout.

"Right now our concern is for Michael. Our concern is not for the fight. His well being is what is important."

Tough break for Mike, hopefully it was natural causes that occurred. This fight is huge for him.

Is it PPV or on regular HBO?

Regular HBO.

Jason Litzau vs Caballero is one of the other ones.
I'm looking forward to both fights. The loss of his brothers sucks, but he could use it as a way to inspire and motivate him. Win one for your brother, Michael!

Again, Good luck also to Litzau!

Well, both our guys will be underdogs but I'll be watching. Marquez is getting older and Katsidis has looked great in his last few fights.

Katsidis has knocked off two good fighters. One, hot latin prospect promoted by GBP and the other a English top rated fighter. Hopefully Michael has learned to be more defensive and coupled with an aging Marquez he can capitalize Saturday night. It won't be easy, but if he fights smart with controlled aggression he can indeed win!

Weights: Juan Manuel Marquez 134 vs Michael Katsidis 135
(WBA/WBO lightweight championship)

Litzau's opponent was 1.5 pounds over the limit and has to lose it.

Caballero may be weight-drained. I would love to see Litzau win - he's only getting paid only $50,000 for the fight, and after all his expenses that sure doesn't leave much. According to what I've read, Caballero will be paid $350,000 and Berto over $1,000,000.

The Jewish Supremacist Ross Greenberg is generous with the HBO money to the negro fighters, but treats the white fighters very badly.

Something to consider, if Michael outright defeats Marquez, he should enter into the PFP rankings. Marquez is generally considered the 5th or 6th PFP fighter. I suspect the usual media suspects won't even consider Michael placement into this group. They will allege that Marquez grew old in the fight.

Another thing to consider is that if Katsidis wins aside from being good for him it will move Wlad up one in the top 10 p4p ratings. It will also squelch the possibility of Pac fighting Marquez again which will increase the likelihood of a Pac Mayweather or other Afro American fight.

I hope Katsidis wins but I'm not counting on it happening.

I agree amren. I hope Katsidis pulls is out but based on his matches with Diaz and Casamayor he will likely lose a close fight by either decision or knockout (or cuts).

Michael and Marquez up in 5 mins. If Mike can use controlled aggression, knowing when to assault then step back when Marquez attempts to retaliate, he has a great chance to win. We shall see.

Mike just landed a Martinez like left that dumped Marquez on his ass but Marquez showed resolved and finished the round strong
