Kudo's to Michael Campbell for his impressive performance in winning the US. Open. We owe him a debt of gratitude for saving us. Do you realize if Woods won today, the media would assault us with non- stop Tiger coverage? Is he really back? Will he win the British Open and perhaps a grand slam?

Bart, we sure do owe him a debt of gratitude.I could be wrong but I sensed that even the announcers seemed glad that Campbell won, so absurd would their own Tiger-mania have to become if Woods had been the victor.

It reminds me of how great it was when Rich Beem stepped up and did the same thing to Woods in the '02 PGA.

Campbell is Scottish mixed with a fourth or half New Zealand aborigine. Like a lot of people who are part or predominantly white he seems to consider himself white. Nothing wrong with that. He played superbly and conducted himself well, congratulations to him.

Yeah, it would have been unbearable. I watched much of the Open and was
astonished Tiger didn't win it. It seemed like the entire field, except
fof Campbell, just kept messing up, while the media's favorite of all
time kept making par and climbing up the leader board. BTW, Campbell
appears to be of Samoan or Hawaian ancestry, although he's from New
Zealand. Anybody know more about that?

What happened to Goosen today? Seems to me there have been quite a few melt-downs in some of the more recent Majors. Because golf is a game of precision, even a minor glitch can be deadly to a pro's game. The final round is stressful on the nerves, causing tight strokes, missed hits, jitters or a case of the yips.

Jack Nicklaus was asked how he was able to handle the intensity of the Majors. He said it was actually easier for him than other tournaments. If he was behind he would just stay cool and play his normal game knowing that most players would crack under pressure givng him an opportunity to pull out a victory.
