I sincerely want to keep this positive and get some advise perhaps. I recently broke what I believe is today a socioligcal tabbo, that is I stood up to an African American being rude to me and my mother. It seems the media has set a standard that caucasians are supposed to tolerate African American rudeness and intimidation and that is just the way it is.
I made the mistake of telling the lady I did not appreciate her talking to my mother and I in that rude condesending tone and added that perhaps she was treating us that way because we are caucasians and we are supposed to just take it. I said those days are over and we are not going to just lie back and take it any more.
To my surprise my mom took the African American's side when we later discussed the incident but I am not as mad at my mother as I might be because I know when you break a social norm you risk rebuke from your own side. My own mother rubuking me is perhaps a bit extreme though.
