[h=1]Povetkin-Perez tops loaded May 22 card in Moscow[/h] By Karl Freitag
Heavyweights Alexander Povetkin (28-1, 20 KOs) and Mike Perez (21-1, 13 KOs) collide in a WBC eliminator on May 22 at the Luzhniki Arena in Moscow, Russia. The winner will challenge for the WBC title.
In the co-feature, WBC cruiserweight champion Grigory Drozd (39-1, 27 KOs) will have a rematch against former champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (49-3, 35 KOs).
Other bouts include 2008 Olympic gold medalist Rakhim Chakhkiev (22-1, 17 KOs) against Mirko Larghetto (22-1-0, 14 KOs) and fearsome KO artist Dmitry Kudryashov (17-0, 17 KOs) against Vikapita Meroro (28-4, 14 KOs) in cruiserweight action.
Also, former heavyweight title challengers Manuel Charr (27-3, 16 KOs) and Alex Leapai (30-6-3, 24 KOs) clash in a crossroads contest.
Finally, Svetlana Kulakov (9-0-1, 1 KO) meets Marie Riderer (15-2-1, 10 KOs) for the WBA female super lightweight title.

Russian promoter Ryabinsky always makes excellent boxing cards.

Looking forward to seeing two of my favorites, Kudryashov and Povetkin back in action.

Drozd-Wlodarczyk II and Chakhkiev-Larghetto are very good cruiserweight matchups.

Leapai vs. Charr is a good, competitive heavyweight matchup between two former Klitschko opponents.

We may see Bivol and Troyanovsky added to the card by May 22.

Looking forward to seeing this card, there's 5 or 6 really good fights on this card. It seems it will air on Friday Night Fights in USA? If so, it'seasily the best FNF card in years.

Povetkin fight should be good. Alex has scored some remarkable KOS over Takam and Charr recently but Perez may prove a tougher test.

Interested to see Kudryashov fight as well. Drozd, Chakhkiev, and Charr fights should be decent too.

If this is the same guy I think it is, I'm hoping Povetkin gives Perez the beating of his life.

I know fighters are supposed to fight, while referees, trainers and ringside doctors are supposed to look out for the boxers. But there is still a bad taste in my mouth over what happened to Magomed Abdusalamov and Mike Perez's role in the outcome.

Can't help but think that illegal forearm shiver by Perez in the early rounds that broke Mago's jaw set the whole thing in motion.

Here's the full card:

And there will be a live stream here which will show the entire card:

Thanks for the reminder! What time does it start, real time, that is my time?

Crypto - Did Perez do an illegal foream in that tragic fight? I didn't catch it. Mago broke his hand in round one. If only he didn't he would be healthy and happy and an undefeated top challenger today.

The two saddest words in the English language - "if only".

In my opinion, yes Perez threw an illegal forearm (as many black boxers tend to do, ala "money" Mayweather).

It was early in the fight and both were really exchanging heavy shots in close. It was if Perez decided he had to get the Russian off him and just extended the forearm to his face, like a follow-through shot.

Here's a little more information from ESPN:

"In the first round, the 6-foot, 235-pound Perez staggered Abdusalamov with a quick left forearm to his face. Referee Esteves could have declared a "no contest" as a result of the illegal blow, but he was positioned behind Abdusalamov." espn.go.com

Oh wow. Maybe I'll rewatch it...but it is painful to do so.

Usually these cards start around 11 AM Eastern Time.

Russia 2 will telecast all the fights.

I'd sooner listen to the Russian live telecast (even though I don't know the Russian language) than listen to the despicable Teddy Atlas discrediting the Russian boxers.

Supposedly Wilder is set to fight the winner of the Potevkin v Perez fight. Believe it when I see. American DWFs and negroes are hoping beyond hope that Wilder can become the undisputed champ. I will have admit he showed me that he is more a fighter than I believed with his decision over Swirvne(sp) but I do not think he can handle a conditioned Potevkin. Hopefully Potevkin shines against Perez.

Yes, I know what you mean. I watched the fight with my son and we could not understand why Mago seemed to slow-down, go into a cruise mode during long stretches after starting off landing tremendous power shots to Perez.

It wasn't until we learned of his horrible injuries (the main one coming from an illegal forearm) and eventual coma that it made sense.

When you think about it, he showed super-human will to continue fighting with cranial swelling, a broken hand and jaw.

What a warrior!

I read that ESPN 3 will show the fight live, but I can't find their schedule anyplace, and ESPN will show it on tape delay. That's what I read anyway. It says here:

http://fightnetwork.com/events/8193

...that it starts at 7PM ET.

I hope I don't miss it and there are good streams because this is the best fight card I've seen in a long time.

Better to watch it live and in Russian, because Teddy Atlas will be negative about all the white boxers.

No doubt he'll be discrediting Kudryashov because he's good, same as he has always done to the Klitschkos.

And Teddy will be negative about Drozd and especially Chakhkiev because he's fighting a Negro. He'll go on and on about his opponent taking the fight on short notice.

Charr-Leapai is a good matchup but ESPN won't be showing it.

I always prefer to watch boxing matches broadcast in a foreign language I can't understand instead of on the USSA or USSK zogovision with its incessant propaganda from the likes of Kellerman and Atlas, both of whom got their jobs because of their rich Jewish doctor daddies with connections, and in the case of Atlas, despite his being a psycho with a violent criminal record.
