It appears we'll have two interesting "caste" fights on this coming ESPN Friday Night Fights (June 18):

Maxim Vlasov (17-0, age 23) vs. African-American Jerson Ravelo (20-4, age 32), who was once a top prospect.

Sherzod Husanov (14-0, age 32) vs. a black Columbian, Jhon Berrio (15-6, age 25).

Husanov is from Uzbekstan but he appears to be white, perhaps Chechen. He has a very good amateur background.

Beautiful straight right punch from Maxim Vlasov, Ravelo went down flat on his face!

He was up at the count of 9 or 10, but was staggering and the ref waved it off.

Excellent win by Vlasov

He stopped Ravelo faster than Andre Ward and Allan Green.

Vlasov lost that fight to Chilemba. He had Chilemba down twice in the eighth but came up short according to the judges.

Vlasov will face James McGirt Jr 22-3-1(11) on the Lebedev-Jones undercard in Moscow, on May 21.

Maxim Vlasov is a guy Ive been keeping an eye on for a while, love to watch his fights, and he had a great run on Friday Night Fights a while back! His KO over Jerson Ravelo was great, and he's shown great stamina, punching power (he has a deceptive approx. 50% KO ratio, but his power is much better than that would indicate), and boxing skills.

For what its worth, I saw the Chilemba/Vlasov fight, and as I recall I scored the fight a draw. Couple points from that which is that even though I scored a draw, I felt that score was slightly generous to the African. In other words, Im saying it was a draw or a Vlasov win. Another point on that is that Chilemba is quite a talented boxer (had a draw with Oosthuizen) and there's no shame in having a close fight with him.

Vlasov got screwed by the judges on a fight that at best for Chilemba was a draw.

I firmly believe that Maxim Vlasov has a lot of potential in this sport and he may be a future champion someday. But to realize that potential depends on how he is handled and matched.

He should win his next fight easily, but I notice that in April Vlasov (according to his BoxRec) is scheduled to be facing another white prospect Thomas Oosthuizen. Personally, Im not sold on Oosthuizen. But Oosthuizen is the logical favourite in that fight and if Im in Vlasov's team I wouldnt take that fight right now.

Vlasov needs 5 "easy" fights, 8 rounders against a couple soft touches then some decent journeymen. Then after those fights give him a top15ish fight. I dont think Oosthuizen is a good fight for him at this stage.

I agree Vlasov was cheated on those scorecards in his fight with Chilemba. I had him winning that fight 95-93, the difference being the two knockdowns. I can see a draw 94-94, but there's no way Vlasov should have lost.

And you're right, having Vlasov and Oosthuizen fight right now will damage the career of one or the other (whoever loses). They are both young (Vlasov 25 and Oosthuizen 23) so it would be better if they waited a few years and became better established before fighting each other.

Yes, very much agreed!

Vlasov deserved a draw at the least. And even a draw would have been a bit generous to Chilemba.

Chilemba winning - moreover winning by unanimous decision - just reeks of judging incompetence and/or bias. I cant say Im surprised. As a boxing fan for my whole life, Ive noticed judging has gotten considerably worse over the past few years. Judging was alreayd bad in the mid 2000s, but today its even worse than that.

Actually to be honest, these days I am surprised when the right fighter actually wins the decision. Thats honestly how far officiating in boxing has fallen.

Round 9 now.

Vlasov has probably won every round, but Donfack has a tight guard and isn't easy to knock out.

Vlasov wins by very wide UD.

Donfack took a very bad beating in the last round, I'm surprised the fight wasn't stopped. And the referee gave the Cameroonian too much time to recover after he was knocked down.

Live stream for Chilemba vs. Valsov II coming in a few minutes.

Vlasov was robbed in the first fight in the USA back in 2011, he knocked Chilemba down twice and took the fight to him every round, but the judges favored the African.

Vlasov got robbed vs Joe Smith Jr.

He faces Joshua Buatsi next,I think hearn has made a mistake there with his golden boy chimp.. Vlasov can and should imo win that.
