Max Kellerman was being very negative about Korobov.
Then, Korobov knocks Jose Uzcategui down twice in the round!

That shut Kellerman up for the rest of the round but he just downplayed Korobov's performance as the fight ended.

from www.fightnews.com:

Korobov defeats Uzcategui

In a clash of unbeaten middleweights, 2008 Olympian middleweight Matt Korobov (24-0 14 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Jose Uzcategui (22-1, 18 KOs). Korobov fought a technically superior fight and finally broke the fight open by dropping Uzcategui twice in round seven. Scores were 97-91, 97-91, 96-92. Korobov wins the vacant WBO Inter-Continental belt.

Korobov, looked solid, however, not on the level of Triple G or Kovalev. He needs a couple of fights to rise to the level of the after mentioned fighters. He had his opponent on the ropes, but could not finish a a capable fighter. I like him, but the jury is still out.

On a side note. The black fighter in the main event, Crawford showed himself to be a formidable champ in the 135 / 140 weight divisions. He weathered the huge storm by Gamboa and KO'd him. Great performance. He carries himself well, ala Marvin Hagler. Low key and absent of TNB. I tip my hat to him in a great performance against a A level fighter who was giving him problems and rocked him throughout the fight.

Yeah, our friend Max is talking about Korobov "being flat" and right on cue Korobov rocks the guy with some of the best punches of the fight. Still, Kellerman wasn't totally off base, there seems to be some fire missing from Korobov's personality. He's business-like almost to a fault. At thirty-one he needs to get his ass in gear and go for it. He says he wants Triple G and I hope they can make that fight.

Saw Korobov's fight this past weekend, great fight! Great to see Korobov win his first fight on HBO. Hopefully we continue seeing Korobov on HBO.

Korobov's opponent Uzcategui deserves credit as well for showing a lot of heart.

Fighting GGG would be a big mistake for Korobov. He'd be better off targeting a titlefight VS Peter Quillin. Id like Korobov to win that fight and it is possible considering Showtime is working with Top Rank now. Unfortunately, I wouldnt give Korobov any chance vs GGG.

The only reason Korobov should fight GGG is if he's offered subtantial pay. Otherwise, avoid GGG at all costs IMO.

Agreed with your comments on Korobov.

As for your comments on Crawford, I don't know. I'm not thatimpressed with him. For one thing he had a massive size advantage on Gamboa. It looked like a Welterweight (Crawford) vs a Bantamweight (Gamboa). Gamboa's height is listed at 5'5.5 to Crawford's 5'8 but in the ring it looked even worse.

Gamboa was soundly outboxibg Crawford but you could see the size advantage beginning to wear Gamboa down past round 5.

Crawford took a lot of punches flush but it's easier to do that when youre so much bigger than your opponent.

Gamboa needs to rededicate himself and drop 2 or 3 divisions.

Korobov looked good, but I think he's got some stamina issues. I really thought he could have stopped the guy after those 2 knockdowns.

On the Korobov-Lee HBO card, Timothy Bradley is facing a white boxer from Argentina named Diego Chaves.

Paydays for tonight's fight:

Bradley $2,000,000

Chaves $35,000

Korobov $125,000

Racism against whites is still going on at HBO, with white boxers being paid less. Kovalev was paid just $500,000 for his three-title unification with Hopkins.

Mixed feelings on this one but happy for Andy. I remember a couple years ago Cacharias predicted that Korobov would fall short of the top. I was under the impression that Lee had more losses but he only has two, and I would just throw out the loss to the cruiserweight Chavez. Hopefully Korobov can come back. How about Lee-Triple G?
