In
August, the folks at Deadspin first introduced us to the high-tech
habits (allegedly) of Brett Favre, via his cockeyed courtship of Jenn
Sterger. In October, audio and video evidence emerged, making it a much
bigger story than it previously was. (Then again, some didn't think
the story was all that, um, big.)

The evidence was enough to spark an NFL investigation into whether
Favre violated the league's Personal Conduct Policy, even though Sterger
never had complained to anyone with the Jets or the NFL about the
behavior.

Now, Deadspin promises to publish a story on Tuesday regarding Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez
and an alleged relationship with a 17-year-old girl. A.J. Daulerio
posted Friday a letter from Richard B. Kendall, a lawyer who represents
the girl. Daulerio claims to have photos taken by the girl from the
inside of Sanchez's bedroom. Daulerio also writes that the Jets are
aware of the situation, and that the team is preparing a statement.

Sanchez seems to be unfazed by the situation. On Friday, the
24-year-old Sanchez made the rounds at Radio Row. (Mrs. PFT gets the
photo credit. For some reason, she took 94 pictures of Sanchez.) He
looked relaxed and loose. He even paused to say hello to a certain
Internet hack who was <del>playing Angry Birds</del> typing an important text message.

Under New York and New Jersey law, statutory rape laws apply only
when one party to an otherwise consenting relationship is under the age
of 17. So if the girl was 17, the law shouldn't care, the Jets
shouldn't care, and the NFL shouldn't care. Whether the rest of us
should or shouldn't care is a matter of personal preference, but we have
a feeling that most of the e-mails we've received pointing out to us
the Deadspin report were prompted by folks who have assumed incorrectly
that Sanchez now faces potential jail time, if the allegations are
true. (On that point, the Deadspin article is silent.)

He doesn't.

Absent evidence that the girl didn't consent to anything that may
have happened between herself and Sanchez, the guy did nothing legally
wrong â€" and he committed no violation of any league or team policy.

To recap not only has he raped women in College but he also likes dating females under the age of 18. ArHe's certainly living up to his expectations as a Mexican, that's for sure.

I don't recall reading about this. What's the background?

He was accused of sexually assaulting a 19 year old girl, arrested but the charges were dropped. He was temporarily suspended while the investigation was going on. Its hard to find any details on what happened except that he was arrested outside of an apartment complex.

Here is something I found from deadspin, talking about how the media is sympathetic towards Sanchez unlike Big Ben

http://deadspin.com/5739780/why-no-one-remembers-the-mark-sanchez-rape-case

<blockquote>

In April 2006, Mark Sanchez was arrested on suspicion
of sexual assault. He was 19 years old, a redshirt freshman who was
considered the next Matt Leinart at a time when that actually meant
something good. But Sanchez went out one night (using a fake Arizona ID
that listed his name as "Jordan Traver Uttal"Â￾), and he apparently did a
good bit of drinking, and at some point the following day a female USC
student felt compelled to call the police. Here's what the Los Angeles
Times reported.

Los Angeles Police Department officers took the 19-year-old
redshirt freshman into custody about 4 p.m., after a female USC student
told police she had been sexually assaulted by Sanchez in the early
morning. Sanchez, from Mission Viejo, was arrested at the Cardinal
Gardens apartment complex at 3131 McClintock Ave.

Sanchez was never charged, and the case dropped a couple of months later after investigators determined there was a lack of evidence.
(Medical examinations of Sanchez and the alleged victim were
inconclusive on "the issue of force,"Â￾ as the Associated Press put it.
Prosecutors said it was "essentially a ‘one-on-one' allegation."Â￾)
Sanchez went on to earn the starting job in his junior season and was
picked fifth overall by the Jets in the 2009 NFL Draft.
</blockquote>So when Pittsburgh had to play the Jets they kept calling Big Ben a rapist, when I mentioned that Mark Sanchez also had an accusation the response was "yeah but Big Ben has had TWO". Well now Sanchez is involved in 2 cases. I am guessing 17 counts as statutory if she was indeed consenting, but the laws may be different.

Snow pretty much covered it with that article. As an addition to the above he was the "great" latino hope and being hyped from the start at USC which already receives local ehem, benefits like most major College sporting teams do. There was no way the "great" latino hope was going to be charged.

Yes, USC had a lot invested in Sanchez. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office dismissed the case because it was a "He said she said." A guilty verdict would have been impossible.

The story broke in 2006 at the same time as the Duke Lacrosse affair. Sanchez's arrest received very little coverage and it has been conveniently forgotten.Edited by: sport historian

Rapist or not, it is creepy like Chris Collinsworth's alleged attraction to underage girls when he was a player. In this day and age a 24 year old with a 17 year old is creepy, because contrary to what they say, kids don't mature faster now days, they mature slower. Emotionally anyways. A twenty four year old man doesn't need to to be trolling the high schools for dates and hookups. That is far creepier than anything they could ever say about Brett Favre or Ben Roethlisberger. I don't even say that because they are White and Sanchez self identifies with the whole Mexican/Mestizo herritage. I say it because it is just creepy, like the prom date who looks like he is close to retirement.

I don't think a 7 year difference is too great. In NJ the age of consent is 17 yrs old! Sanchez, I believe can't even speak Spanish. He is a Orange County White boy, coated in brown skin. Hell, his father can't speak Spanish either, Just 3rd or 4th generation Mexican/Americans living the dream through a somewhat talented 2nd year NFL QB if truth be told.

Not proper yes, creepy I won't go that far. From the photos I have seen she looks 'older' than 17 and a knockout. When I was 36 I dated a 22 year old for over a year. Am I a creep?

While being sort of weird in this modern era. This kind of relationship wasn't strange about 100 years ago. As for Sanchez being Mexican, the media and his agent are probably forcing this upon him. This is his favorite song..... What Mexican listens to this? Plus like we said in the past posts about Romo and other ethnic Mexican quarter backs, the media never made such a big deal about their heritage until their ethnic group became a growing demographic in America. This year ESPN talked about Plunkett being an ethnic ice breaker when this Super Bowl was happening. It was never a big deal in either Super Bowl that he played in. In fact his heritage was so little mentioned that I always assumed he was Irish and American Indian not Mexican with some Irish Ancestry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwugjyeSKx4Edited by: white is right

Yes, during his playing days Plunkett was considered white.

Sanchez seems like an assimilated American to me. The media foists the Mexican stuff on him just like they try to make Sam Bradford identify as an Indianand query Grady Sizemore on the plight of inner city blacks. It's all part of the game every public figureof every background has to play.

And yes, Westside, you're a creep for going after a washed-up 22 year old.

Hahaha, that's a good one! Westside, you need to follow Mark Sanchez's example, what are you doing with a 22 year old when you can date them at 17-18?
smiley36.gif

In all seriousness, I don't see a big deal here. Since no laws have been broken and both parties are consenting, it's fair game as far I'm concerned. Personally, I date women a bit closer to my age, but to each his own in this case.

The media will do everything in their power to promote anything and everything non-white, so this whole Mexican QB tag on Sanchez is indeed force-fed upon him. In my eyes, he's an American man of Mexican ancestry, with far more white blood than anything else. And he's a decent QB, somewhere in the middle of the pack among starting QBs in the NFL.

It's worth noting that Sanchez's parents named him Mark, not Roberto or Jorge. Very suburban American.

His resemblance to the actor Adrien Grenier is amazing. He looks like his bigger kid brother. Grenier is considered nothing but White and in one episode of Entourage explained that he had a Japanese ancestor to explain his exotic look.
