Very good point, Keane is still in top shape (has really been on fire during the playoffs) and could be a real handful for the Houston Dynamo! I think that the side from Los Angeles are a strong favourite to win this match, they have a lot of offensive power. I hope that Donovan will manage to "impersonate" Xavi in this match and treat us with a performance befitting his stature in order to dispel the allegations that he is no longer committed to the Galaxy. May the grand finale in the United States turn out to be a nice advertisement for the game.

I watched the New York Red Bulls vs. D.C. United game and the former were very unlucky to suffer elimination at such an early stage - they created many chances, but Henry wasn't at his best and Kenny Cooper (usually a reliable penalty kick taker) missed from the spot. However, it was obvious that they lacked chemistry, I never got the impression that the players were really there to fight for each other. Hans Backe is now back in Europe, so I am guessing that there may be many personnel changes before the next season (the team will probably no longer be as reliant on its Scandinavian players). Joe Willis and Lionard Pajoy from D.C. United impressed me quite a bit, wouldn't be surprised if they soon made the switch to a "big name team".​

A very White LA Galaxy beats a pretty dark Houston, 3-1, to win the MLS Cup. A very entertaining match. The pro-Galazy crowd was very into it.

Omar Gonzalez (looks like a White Hispanic on TV), Landon Donovan, and Robbie Keane with the goals for LA. Beckham's last game for the MLS.

Soccer’s international rules-making body approved goal-line technology last July. FIFA announced in February that the GoalControl-4D system will be used at the 2014 World Cup. England’s Premier League said April 11 it will install the Hawk-Eye system next season, becoming the first domestic competition to use technology.
GoalControl said it is likely to cost about $260,000 per stadium to install, and $3,900 per game to operate. Speaking Thursday to the Associated Press Sports Editors, Garber called the price “very, very, very expensive.

That is suspiciously expensive to install. I find it hard to believe the tennis Hawk-Eye system costs this much. Indian Wells in California paid $500,000 to set it up for their eight courts. In tennis it must follow all the lines on the court but presumably in football it will only be the two goal-lines, though maybe being separated by such a distance has a cost impact.

Great game last night, as the Montreal Impact defeated the Philadelphia Union 5-3. All the goals in this game were scored by whites, with Marco di Vaio registering a "hat-trick" in the hockey mad city. Montreal, which features several Italian Serie A legends, has been a fun team to watch this season.

Extremely talented youngsters Jack McInerney and Andrew Wegner -- who was the #1 overall pick in MLS draft last year -- also scored in last night's game. I think both these guys could possibly wind up playing in the Premiere League at some point. McInerney seems to be a modern day version of Brian McBride, who started in MLS, then wound up having a solid career in England.

As readers of this thread know last year the mostly black Toronto FC, with help from consultant Jurgen Klinsmann and coach Aron Winter, made history: The longest losing streak ever by a professional soccer team in the world.

Well, today I had the above mentioned radio station on in the background when the announcer claimed Diego Forlan was coming to Toronto to play in MLS. At first I thought I misheard this so I just did a web search and it seems Forlan is denying it but Toronto media claim it is still going to happen - they just haven't worked out the details.

Needless to say if Forlan went to TFC, it would be a boost to both the team and MLS. Of course, he's near the end of his career so maybe he just wants a nice pay cheque before retiring. More to come.

Giovinco (whose nickname was "atomic ant" in Italy) is a fantastic player, but a victim of a system that increasinglyy prefers "big", "physical" players over smaller faster technical players (EPL premiered this approach). There is a body of evidence showing how size is not that significant in soccer, and on some positions it may actually be a liability, but no matter... He's a way more valuable player than - for example - Pogba. Yet - Juventus is promoting that useless Black prick as the best thing since sliced bread, while exiling Giovinco to MLS (which is a decent league, but for a player of his caliber it is a place where players go to die).

Great comment and fully agree. Size and height is pushed as being important by some leagues but the reality is that it is not very important at all.

Leo Messi undeniably the World's best footballer is a smaller guy. Its his technical skills and dribbling ability which make him great. Wesley Sneijder, Coutinho, Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero (who just scored 5 goals in a single fcuking match), are also great examples. Aguero is possibly the best striker in the entire world, and I dont think he stands higher than 5'7" or about 170 cm.

In fact, Aguero was benched on the Argentina national team in favor of much taller Higuain. But Higuain has made horrible errors in the world cup final (missing chances he should have scored) and Copa America final (missing penalty) They likely would have won both matches had the smaller Aguero been playing.

Far too much emphasis is placed on size when it should be placed on technical skills, dribbling, passing, and finishing.

In fact to be honest I'dssay it's better to be shorter in football because it usually makes a better dribbler.

The only time height is an advantage is in heading (mainly defending) or as a GK.
