Jesse Lumsden has reportedly worked for an NFL team (the Colts?) and has other workouts scheduled.

A long shot as always but maybe someone will pull their head out of their ass for once?

---------------------------------------------------
Winnipeg Blue Bomber punter Jon Ryan is preparing for a series of workouts with NFL teams, but Ryan tells CJOB from his off-season base in Arizona that he's not going to jump at just any chance to sign with an NFL club...
(click above for audio)

Ryan says he's been offered an attractive contract to re-sign with the Bombers, and returning here would be high on his list, but he is a free agent on February 15th and if things don't work out in the NFL, he says he will likely check out the CFL market.

Other CFL option year players who are attracting NFL interest include Hamilton running Back Jesse Lumsden and Edmonton defensive end Rashad Jeanty. Both have already had NFL workouts and have more scheduled.

CJOB's Bob Irving reporting.

P.S. Ryan had a 50+ yard punting average last year and set a CFL record in the process.

yeah! go Lumsden! i would love for him to play some NFL ball and convince Seahawks that they were wrong about letting him go

Good for Lumsden. He deserves a lot more than Mike Holmgren's 2-second tryout. He can be good in this league if he wants to.

As Jimmy Valvono used to say,"never give up".I wish Jesse Lumsden the best of luck.Don't let the system hold you down.Fight for your dream & make it a reality!

Jesse Lumsden, running back, Hamilton Tiger-Cats:
Lumsden
had
his sights set on landing an NFL job, but was released last summer by
the Seattle Seahawks after several weeks of training camp. He missed
critical practice time and playing time in exhibition games because of
an injury early in camp. The fact that Seattle cut him, however,
without playing him in an exhibition game suggests he might never have
been seriously in the mix. Still, he tests well enough to likely get a
training-camp invitation somewhere else next summer.
Released
without even being used in a pre-season game. That hurts. Hopefully
he'll be injury-free and ready to kick some ass come this year's
training camp.

I hope Jesse gets his chance. White Males don't want or need special privilege's, all we need is the chance to show our talent and the rest will take care of itself. Go Jesse Go!!

Keep in mind that last year Lumdsen was a mysterious white foreigner looking more like a Calvin Klein Model then a Professional Football player
smiley17.gif
, who had played his college football at what could be considered the division 3 and 1/2 level. That he got ANY shot at all speaks volumes in itself.

This year he's heading to NFL with a half season of pro football including multiple starts, under his belt. Things could be different this time...

But still a black player in Lumdsen's position would have about a 25% chance to make the NFL so let's not get our hopes up too far.

Is it possible that if the Colts sign him now he could play during the playoffs now???

Don't quote me on this but I think I've heard before that Edgerrin James's contract is up at the end of this season which means the Colts could possibly be a perfect fit....The Colts already have alot of money tied up in Peyton, Harrison, and a couple of Defensive players and I'm sure James wants big bucks so maybe they can't sign him....

Wouldn't it be great if the Colts don't win the SuperBowl, then James leaves and the only exchange is Lumsden and they win the SB next year?.....

Lumsden would have to rush for 500 yards in every preseason game for Colts to do it... however starting off as a backup in COlts wouldn't be such a bad thing either

From what I understand about CFL option year players Lumsden (or anyone else) would have to wait until next season. I guess this is so a lousy NFL team can't load up on CFL Stars when no one is looking and go on a playoff run.

I just threw out the Colts because I thought I had read that somewhere but I can't find the source... aw hell maybe I just dreamt about it.

<A name=288920>Redskins | Lumsden signed to two-year contract
Sat, 21 Jan 2006 19:27:50 -0800

TSN.ca reports the Washington Redskins have signed free agent RB Jesse Lumsden (Seahawks) to a two-year contract. No financial terms were disclosed. Lumsden played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL in 2005.
<DIV =hr>Being from the DC area I am very excited about this signing. I am Steeler fan but do root for the Skins since they are the hometown team and was gonna just forget about them once the highly overrated Campbell becomes QB...he wont last 2 seaons IMO but hopefully Lumsden sees significant playing time and Gibbs will use him like Riggins except he will be a RB not FB.

I think Riggins was already on the Redskins when Gibbs became the head coach. Has he ever used a white receiver in all his years coaching? Playing Jimmy Farris one or two snaps a season doesn't count.

Man, I hope we actually get to see Jessie run with the ball!

well it sure is great for him, let's just hope he will stay in NFL this time...

Is this an unusual move for an NFL team, or standard procedure in the off season? I'd like to be optimistic because they actually signed him to a two year contract instead of allowing him to just "try out" for the team, but anymore I really don't know what to expect.

it's pretty standard, some of those contracts are not worth much in terms of stability or job security

The NFL is the only one of the big four professional leaguesinNorth Americathat can cut a player at any time, immediately ending his contract. Or else they can renegotiate a contract downward, which happens all the time. It's a major reason theNFL has been so successful and lucrative for its owners.

yeah he's probably on standard fare, with around 320k in 2006 and 360-390k in 2007... although Skins might have payed a little more since there was some interest from packers and 3 other unnamed teams...

here's a thread dedicated to him on Redskins message boards: Jesse Lumsden

One of the posters on the Redskins board was wondering how in the world a guy like Lumsden who is big and fast was available. So naive.

I should be happy that Lumsden got signed to a contract, but something inside of me is saying "something is rotten in Denmark" I cant explain why I feel that way but I do. Maybe years of the caste system does that to a person.Besides, did he honestly have that great of a season in Canada to warrant the interest of 2 or 3 NFL teams?Compared to little or no interestone year ago?Dont hear me wrong, I am pulling for the guy as much as anybody on this board, and just trying to understand the sudden interestteams have in him.

Well he did avg 5.1 yds a carry in the CFL and alot of teams were interested in him last year and he stayed with the Seahawks until the end of training camp. I hope he is sucessful and hopefully since he signed so early in the offseason he will get extra attention from coaches.

There were several teams interested inLumsden last year not just Seattle. The Colts and Panthers come to mind. But signing an NFL free agent contract, even a two-year one, doesn't mean he's going to get any more of a chance than he did with the Seahawks. Washington can waive him tomorrow and owe him nothing. Teams routinely sign lots of players to free agent contracts and very few end up making the roster, especially if they're white and have already begun the process of being kicked around from team to team. They're usually training camp fodder for the "real players."

But it would be great to see Lumsden get a real opportunity. Maybe the NFL will tinker with its policy ofwhites need not applyat running back and cornerback and begin to allow one or two here and there. I guess that's progress of a sort if it happens.

who knows...maybe Lumsden impresses the Redskins and if he does get released the other teams that where interested in him might sign him...im just hoping he gets a shot.

I hope that Gibbs remembers what Big John Riggins did in Washington.Lumsden could be another stud if he is only given the chance. He has incredible speed for a big running back.Go Redskins.
