JC, despite the arrogance of these drunk white fans, there have always been long and athletic white players. There are two good reason for me to point out why many these group of white players hardly play at all: strength and defense
Lee Cummard to me is one of the best defensive hustlers in all of NCAA Basketball, but the so-called NCAA experts hardly pay notice to him.
Robbie Hummel and Nick Calathes are some of the better all-around players in all of NCAA basketball, they too hardly get much notice.
B.J. Mullens and Ty Zeller have to be the best white American 7-footers I have seen in years, again the same old story.
Based on careful observation (me), long and althletic white players have been long regarded by drunk white fans as weak in strength and defense, although David Lee, Andris Biedrins, Ginobili, and AK-47
can easily disprove that. It all began with Michael Jordan breaking
into the NBA, his exploits have made drunk white fans think that
oustanding players standing 6'6-6'8 have to be black. Even though Brent Barry won the Slam Dunk in 1996, it still put these stupid people in a state of denial.
Another thing I have noticed why many white players have trouble breaking into basketball is the fade-away (or fall-away) shot. Larry Bird and Kevin McHale were known for that shot, so was Rick Barry, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, and Pistol Pete. The only white player I know who can do that shot consistently these days is Dirk Nowitzki, no I can think of comes close. White players these days are often considered slow and fundamental, even though Steve Nash was and is still the driving force of the Phoenix Suns up-tempo offense.
Blacks are athletic no question, but whites have shown time and time again they can play above the rim with these "people," but the game isn't all about athleticism, it's also about the fundamentals, hutsle, and teamwork. Whites play team basketball, blacks like to play street-ball. That's what basketball to drunk fans is now, street-ball.
