I’ve been watching the IWF world weightlifting championships this past week, and there were some impressive performances all around. The sport is entirely dominated by white and Asian athletes.

The highlight of any weightlifting championships for me is always the super heavyweights because everyone likes to see big guys moving lots of weight. Lasha Talakhadze of Georgia, the strongest man in the world did not disappoint, he’s simply a man amongst boys.

Here are all 6 of his lifts in the snatch and C&J, worth about 10 minutes of your time to watch it. Power, super human strength, technique, speed, explosiveness, it’s all there in package. These Olympic lifters are amongst the best athletes in the world.

I also noticed that all the top performers were from the Caucasus region (Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan) and Eastern Europe across the Black Sea (Bulgaria). Great genetics for strength training in those regions coupled with the hardships that those countries still have creates tough men.
