Q & A: Evansville Memorial's Kyle Kuric
August 13, 2007
Evansville Memorial's Kyle Kuric is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who had an
impressive summer traveling with the Evansville Basketball Club. Kuric
took a few moments to answer a handful of questions from Matt Denison
earlier today.
Hoosier Hills Hoops: What scholarship offers do you currently have on the
table?
Kyle Kuric: Michigan, Saint Louis, Southern Illinois, Ole Miss, Charlotte,
Evansville, Butler, Indiana State, Central Michigan, Bradley, Youngstown
State.
Hoosier Hills Hoops: There's been some talk of you receiving "preferred
walk on" offers from a few additional high-major programs. If true, which
schools have extended those to you?
Kyle Kuric: Louisville -- red shirt, walk on one year, then scholarship after
that. Duke -- a year of prep (school) then possible scholarship.
Hoosier Hills Hoops: A handful of high-major programs entered the mix
recently. How big of an impact do you feel the July evaluation period had
on your recruitment?
Kyle Kuric: I played well in Las Vegas with several new coaches watching.
There has been new interest and offers based on that so July worked out
well for me.
Hoosier Hills Hoops: The NCAA allows five official campus visits. When
and where do you plan to take these?
Kyle Kuric: I haven't decided yet. I will probably take a mix of unofficial
and official visits. Michigan, Duke, Louisville, Ole Miss, Indiana, Saint
Louis and Southern Illinois are still in the mix.
Hoosier Hills Hoops: Do you have a specific time frame that you would
like to make your college decision by?
Kyle Kuric: No. I will commit when I find the right place.
Hoosier Hills Hoops: Evansville native Walter McCarty is the University of
Louisville's newest assistant coach. I understand that you have some
background with him. Talk about those experiences and if you feel those
will help increase the Cardinals' interest?
Kyle Kuric: Walter played for my current AAU coach Mike Thomas. He has
seen me play several times and I have talked to him a lot before he went
to Louisville and since. I know Walter told (Rick) Pitino about me and both
caught one of my games in Las Vegas. It would be great to play for Coach
Pitino and McCarty.
Hoosier Hills Hoops: You traveled to Duke for their summer camp and
had a chance to play against some of their famed assistant coaches. What
was that experience like and how serious is their interest?
Kyle Kuric: It was a great experience for me. I got to play with them and
learn from them daily. It was a good change for me to get to know them
and for them to get to know me. As far as their interest goes, coach
(Chris) Collins said they have good interest in me because I'm a good kid,
have a lot of potential and Duke was 'my team' growing up.
Hoosier Hills Hoops: Your name has been mentioned with Indiana
University on-and-off. How serious is their interest and has it intensified
since the evaluation period in July?
Kyle Kuric: I went to Indiana (University) Elite Camp the end of June and
Coach (Kelvin) Sampson watched a couple of my games in July. He has
been in contact with me regularly. They are looking at a couple of
shooting guards so I'll see how things go over the next couple of weeks.
Hoosier Hills Hoops: How good can your Evansville Memorial high school
team be this upcoming season.
Kyle Kuric: We will be good. We return our entire starting five players.
This should be our year.
