Kyle Eckel finished the regular season today rushing for
179 yards in the Army/Navy Game.Kyle just might be the
closest thing to Mike Alstott to come along in a long
time.He is a Pit Bull and he can really run.H rushed for
close to 1000 yards and is very durable. He has one game left but I'm not sure which Bowl Game that the Navy will play in.After that,it's on to the NFL.The last Navy Football Player to be a star in teh NFL was Roger Staubach.Good luck to Eckel.

My bad.Kyle Eckel is at around 1050 yards and has run for
well over 2000 yards in the last couple of years. He finished the season strong with efforts of 151 yards and 179 yards!Don't forget,he is a fullback that runs like
a running back.He can play either position.

I agree 4.55 40 good speed and power its just funny how you see a good power back thats white and they compare him to riggins, if this was a fair world they would compare him to a current back in the nfl like bettis.

He did look tremendous. It would be nice to see an NFL team actually use him as a running and not let him rot on the bence or be used strictly as a blocker. Odds are that is what will happen to him in the nfl.

So true. At least he can have a career. A smaller
white back who isn't "converted" to fullback either
won't make it to the NFL, won't last very long, or will
never play. Peyton Hillis is another talented power
back who would be a fullback in the NFL, no matter
what his talent level will be when he's done with his
collegiate career. At least a fullback has the
potential to last in the NFL for several seasons, and
maybe, just maybe, he can run the ball every now
and then. Eckel will undoubtedly be grateful for
whatever he can get out of this caste system.
Hopefully he can have as long a career as he wants,
and also be assertive and let the coach know that he
believes that he can run the ball with success. Even
if he can't convince any coach that he can do it, these
talented white players need to have an unflinching,
unflappable confidence that they can do it, and
express that confidence to anyone who will listen.

Kyle had 88 yards in the Bowl game tonight. It is now on
to the NFL where he will probably be forced to block all
of the time so someone else can get the glory.I hope
that some how he gets to run the ball at least part time
like Alstott.Eckel is too talented to just block.

I believe he cannot play in the NFL until he serves 5 years in the Navy
or the Marines. By the time he is able to play in the NFL, people
may forget about him unfortunately.

However, Eckel is a symbol of what is great about football. He is
a tough, consistent, powerful player. If he gets the chance to
play in the NFL, the caste system will not be able to stop him.
Eckel could make a tremendous impact as a blocking back.

P.S. Blocking wins football games.

here's what i found about Kyle:

"Eckel, 23, went to camp with New England this year as an undrafted college free agent. With the Patriots in preseason this year, he rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries and caught two passes for 11 yards. The 5-11, 245-pounder finished his career at the Naval Academy with 2,906 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns, placing him fourth in school annals in both categories. He put together 13 career 100-yard rushing performances, the fourth-most in school history. He also became just the third player at Navy to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing plateau twice. As a senior, Eckel ran for 1,147 yards, including 179 against Army. He amassed a career-high 1,249 yards rushing (236 atts.) in his junior season, when he also scored 10 touchdowns. Born December 30, 1981 in Philadelphia, Eckel attended Episcopal Academy in Merion, Pa."

if you have a big bruising back like that, who you know can play 4.0 ypc and 2 TDs on 20 carries is great for an undrafted rookie... WHY DO YOU CUT HIM! Patriots did that...

what is his status now on Dolphins?Edited by: backrow

Eckel's leave expired I think.  On the Dolphins, he is on their IR for military it says.

yesterday i even went to Dolphins board to ask around and it seems people there are very excited about this kid! they are all waiting for him and even if he might take another year most of them thinks he is worth waiting for... shame that Belichick who's a big Navy guy didn't want him in active squad to begin with, which led to Dolphins nicking him from waivers...

i really wanna see this kid in NFL at some point although one or two year leave from football isn't gonna do him any good...
